Description
"It's not a monster movie. It's a supernatural thriller." We watched Ed Wood (1994) with our friend and MTUG SuperStar Jackson Cooper and we don't need coverage - the first take was perfect! Ed Wood is often hailed as the worst director of all time and we're here to tell you - "Glen or Glenda" and "Plan 9 From Outer Space" are pretty terrible, but his story is fascinating. Johnny Depp plays Wood as optimistic, a little naive but driven in his quest to make the perfect movie. He doesnt let a little thing like knowing how to direct get in his way. Martin Laundau gives a hilarious and Oscar winning performance as Bela Lugosi and the rest of the cast really shines. We love the Lisa Marie years of Tim Burton's repertoire and she does not disappoint as Vampira aka Maila Nurmi. Burton really captures the rural look and feel of Hollywood in the 50's and if you're like us, the fun of this movie is heading to Youtube to compare the footage to Ed Wood's actual movies - most of which are in the public domain and fully available to stream leagally and for free. 1950's B movies are camp fun and Ed's cross dressing storyline is handled delicately and holds up well for a movie from the 90's about the 50's. You can't get anymore queer than Vampira's BDSM waistline, Ed Wood directing in angora and a room full of cross dressers.
