Why Visit Portugal
Even if you don’t know much about Portugal, you have probably heard of the country. Yes, you have likely seen it on a map when you were in school, but have many people spoken to you about Portugal since taking a geography quiz?
The truth is that not many people know of all the wonders and reasons to take a trip to Portugal. They think that it's just like any other European country— if you've been to one European country, you've been to them all.
That couldn't be further from the truth! The reality is that Portugal stands on its own for countless reasons. Not only is there a slice of history throughout Portugal that you simply cannot find anywhere else, but you also will be able to experience day trips, cuisine, hotels, and cultures that aren't found in any other part of Europe.
There is something so old-fashioned and yet always modern about Portugal. But that's just one of the myriad reasons why you should make the trip. Here are just a few of the very many reasons why Portugal should be on your list of nations you must visit.
The Weather & Landscapes
If you are traveling to another country, you need to be sure that you are going somewhere that has ideal weather. You might be going in the summer, or you might be flying over in the summer. No matter when you're going, you should be sure that any country you're visiting will be comfortable.
That's the case with Portugal. Not only is its weather ideal all year round, but its locations and landscapes are also top of the line too.
Lisbon, for example, is a visual feast, with its high hills, yellow buses, and blue-and-white tiles. To the northwest, the wine country is beautiful and tranquil. The coasts are stunning and craggy. Porto exudes a passionate old-world allure. Outside of the city, there are vast olive groves, farms, and national parks with excellent trekking opportunities. Portugal is made up of a variety of terrains that provide panoramic views and allow for a variety of activities and excursions.
Temperatures seldom dip below 60 degrees Fahrenheit, and the afternoons are consistently bright, attributable to its position on the southern fringe of Europe. In fact, Lisbon has been ranked one of the region's top five brightest cities.
When you visit Portugal, you will find countless cities and locations that seem to always be at the right temperature. Of course, the country has its winters and summer but even those are agreeable and easy on tourists from all over the world.
Few countries throughout the rest of the world have weather as good as Portugal's. You don't have to worry about the weather when you visit this little European nation.
However, is there a time of year that is better to visit Portugal? The typical peak period of tourism in Portugal runs from mid-June to the beginning of September, with July and August seeing the biggest number of visitors. This is Portugal's peak season, so anticipate crowds to descend on renowned spots such as Nazaré and Lisbon.
The so-called shoulder season
in Portugal extends from late April until June, and then again from September to October. You'll find fewer tourists during this season, making it a perfect time to visit Portugal. While there will be a few showers of rain every now and then, they are rare enough to cause you to cancel your activities.
Even in the midst of the peak season in Portugal, there are still some fantastic destinations open to adventurous tourists. You may discover numerous hidden jewels around the nation if you wish to escape the tourist-filled avenues, museums, and restaurants of Lisbon. The Algarve and Braga areas are only a few examples.
You Can Drive Through the Entire Country by Car
One of the most difficult things about traveling to another country is finding the best way to get around this newfound and unfamiliar land. Should you take the bus? If so, how does that work, how much does it cost, and how do you get started doing it? Perhaps you should take the train? But are the trains running near your hotel and what are their schedules
