#1 It can be difficult to grow up with the hidden handicap of ADD. We often felt that we were disappointing everyone, from our parents to our teachers to our friends. We didn’t want to cause trouble, so we didn’t start our days with a plan to drive everyone crazy.
#2 The hidden handicap of an ADD child is that people don’t understand them, and they often become convinced that they are lazy, stupid or crazy.
#3 You must reframe your self-perceptions to replace the old ones. You must understand your symptoms and take steps to gain control over them. To do this, you must learn as much as you can about your disorder.
#4 The disorder of ADD is characterized by disturbances in the areas of attention, impulsiveness, and hyperactivity. The media often focuses on the structural problems in the brain, but this was a very controversial theory in the first half of the twentieth century.
