About this ebook

What if the server was more appealing to you than your lunch date?

The Starlite Diner seemed like the perfect place for a blind date. Broad daylight. Good food. Great service. What could go wrong?

Marketer Kelly Dawson took herself out of the dating game after a failed engagement. She let a good friend talk her into a blind date. Some friend. Her date was late, and the time waiting to Kelly was a better time than the half hour they spent together.

Alyssa Tyler is just helping out in her parents' busy diner. An MBA candidate and future general manager of a Starlite Diner mini empire, she's usually completely focused on operations and not on the front-end customer experience. Her focus changes when a gorgeous butch gets seated in her section for the lunch rush.

Kelly's failed date is dispatched away quickly, but the journey to love for her and Alyssa won't be as easy as pie.

Author

Anne Hagan

Anne Hagan is an East Central Ohio based government employee by day and author by night. She and her wife live in a tiny town that's even smaller than the Morelville of her fiction novels and they wouldn't have it any other way. Anne's wife grew up there and has always considered it home. Though it's an ultra-conservative rural community, they're surrounded there by family, longtime friends and many other wonderful people with open hearts and minds. They enjoy spending time with Anne's son, with their nieces and nephews and doing many of the things you've read about in her books or that will be 'fictitiously' incorporated into future Morelville Mysteries and Cozies series books. If you've read about a hobby or a sport in either series, they probably enjoy doing it themselves or someone very close to them does.

Waiting For You - Anne Hagan

Kelly Dawson looked around the diner. Packed. Great. So much for a quiet, get to know someone time. She sighed. Why did I even agree to this?

Can I help you, ma’am? a young woman in black slacks and a white shirt asked.

Ouch! She read the woman’s name tag. Do I look that old, Shila?

Hey, you said it right. Most people call me Sheila.

Reading things correctly is a talent that comes with age. She gave Shila her most winning smile to soften the blow she felt she’d dealt.

Shila didn’t blink. Can I show you to a table? It’s getting a little busy.

    A little?

The hostess was matter of fact as she said, Yes. They’ll be lining up out the door and halfway up the block soon.

Kelly gave in. I’m supposed to be meeting someone, and she may already be here. Has anyone named Temple been looking for a ‘Kelly?’ That’s me.

No ma’am. I’m sorry. Would you like me to seat you while you wait?

Kelly shot a look over her shoulder. Several other people had already entered the diner. I suppose you better.

A CUTE SERVER SAID, Hi there. I’m Alyssa. She handed Kelly a menu.

I’ll need another one. Someone is supposed to be joining me.

Ah sure. It will just take a second. Be right back.

In less than thirty seconds, Alyssa reappeared at the table. Sorry about that.

Kelly smiled at her. No harm done. You didn’t know.

Alyssa smiled back. Do you want to something to drink while you wait?

I’ll just start with water, for now. Thanks.

    Lemon?

    Sure. Why not?

The server was back with her water in less than a minute, too. Kelly marveled at that. You’re sure quick for as busy as this place is.

Actually, you’re my only table. I, uh, just came on shift.

    I see.

Alyssa traced a finger along the edge of the table. When is your friend supposed to get here?

Hopefully soon. She should have been here by now.

There are several people waiting to be seated. What does she look like?

Kelly cast her eyes down at the table as she admitted, I haven’t got the slightest idea. It’s a blind date.

    You...you didn’t look her up?

No. I haven’t dated in...a while. A friend... she waved a hand. A friend set this up.

Oh. Well then, I’ll keep an eye out for a woman who looks like she’s looking for someone she doesn’t know. She winked and went on her way, leaving Kelly to ponder what the wink meant.
