Stomping around the house in my dad’s boots, I pulled at my mum’s trouser leg.
‘Can I be a boy when I grow up?’ I asked.
It was 1996 and, aged 5, I didn’t feel like other girls I knew.
I liked to dress up in my dad’s clothes, pretend to be Peter Pan or Robin Hood.
‘No, little girls can’t be boys,’ Mum laughed. But something just didn’t feel right.
