No One But You - Mia Jones

    No One But You

    By Mia Jones

    Chapter One

He was back. The man I thought was my soul mate, who had promised me the world one month and then told me he had to leave the next.

Logan Morrison. The man who broke more than my heart. He cut a piece of something essential in her that I was afraid I’d never get back—part of my soul, my trust, and my belief in myself.

It had been three years, four months, and sixteen days since she’d seen him. She knew he’d come back eventually because his mom still lived there; she had hoped she’d be married with children by then, living a happy life and showing Logan she’d moved on. The fact she wasn’t even in a relationship and never had been since he left ate at her. Morgan had been asked out over the years, but she couldn’t bring herself to say yes to any of them.

She had absolutely nothing to show for the last three years. She was a waitress in the town bar and grill and lived in a tiny apartment over one of the stores downtown.

Sure, she was going to college, but it had taken forever because she tried to pay for each semester as it came, so she didn’t rack up a lot of debt. She only had a month left until she had a two-year degree, and then she planned to start her life over somewhere else. Somewhere new where no one knew her. Then maybe she could move on, because living here with all the reminders of the things she and Logan used to do together was heartbreaking.

Morgan stood across the bar and watched as he and his mother ate, talked, and smiled. Morgan couldn’t remember the last time she genuinely smiled.

Hey, Morgan, table six is asking for you.

Morgan jerked and turned toward Hannah, a feeling of panic started to choke her when she realized it was Logan’s table. Hannah, can you please tell them I’m busy?

Hannah set her tray down at the end of the bar and frowned as she studied her.

Morgan knew she was probably pale and looked ready to cry or fall apart or both. She was barely holding it together.

    What’s going on?

Morgan kept her head lowered and concentrated on the ticket she was making out for one of her customers. Nothing, I’m just busy right now.

Hannah laid a hand on Morgan’s arm. You have two tables, and one’s leaving, so what are you busy with?

Morgan looked up, and her heart jerked in her chest when her eyes clashed with Logan’s across the room. Her need for him was just as high as it was years before, and it was twisting her stomach into knots, knowing she’d never have him
