Prelude
61 is such an odd number. It’s not popular, and most people naturally like to organize things into even numbers anyway. I’m sure you’re wondering why couldn’t this have been a 60-day devotional? Or an even-numbered devotional?
My response to that is, why not add an extra day to the 60?
Put it like this; there are 61 days in June and July combined. My goal is that you would take some time out of your day to read an excerpt. Then after reading, reflect on the challenges that are implemented at the end of most excerpts.
I like that there’s this 61-day thing going on here. It means that you get to spend an extra day challenging yourself. What’s better than an extra day to get closer to Jesus? Nothing is. What matters is the maturity of your heart, mind, and soul. The whole man/woman.
God is extremely interested in your growth and development. Why not take the challenge of committing to 61 days to do that? To grow a little, receive some encouragement, and get to know Jesus better.
That is my desire for you. You have 61 days! Here’s the catch: You are not required to read this within the confines of June and July. Read at your own pace. Seek the Lord at your own pace. It doesn’t stop at 61. It continues for a lifetime.
Day 1
Why Jesus?
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. | John 3:16 ESV
grace
/grās/ - courteous goodwill.
In a world that claims there are multiple ways to God, consider this.. | GRACE |
Why do we need Jesus? Because of sin. Why do we have sin? Because of our choice. Why did we make that choice? Because of our pride. Our pride caused us to deny the grace and freedom that was already given to us at the beginning (Eden).
Because of this, God gave us more grace. This is the God who saw it not robbery to give us more of the very thing we don’t deserve, despite our blatant disobedience to Him.
He became like us, to die for us, so that we can live with Him.
Grace like a flood. This is why Jesus is love.
Daily Challenge: Ask yourself: Do I know Jesus?
Day 2
Qualified
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. | 1 Peter 2:9 ESV
I want you to look at this day with a new perspective. I want you to be reminded of the fact that you are qualified. You are qualified for the job. You are qualified to start that business. You are qualified to write that book. You are qualified to forgive that friend. You are qualified and equipped to do what God has graced you to do by the aid and help of His Holy Spirit.
You are a chosen person, a royal priest. By the grace of God, you have been qualified to carry out his commission here on the earth. To lead the captives to Jesus. To make the world a better place.
Be reminded that you will be misunderstood. The world will give you a hard time for doing the right thing. The world will
