    CHAPTER 1

Sacred Nourishment: Working with Nature to Restore our Divine Blueprint and Optimize our Well-being

Our minds, as well as our bodies, have need of the out-of-doors. Our spirits, too, need simple things, elemental things, the sun and the wind and the rain, moonlight and starlight, sunrise and mist and mossy forest trails, the perfumes of dawn and the smell of fresh-turned earth and the ancient music of wind among the trees. – Edwin Way Teale

There is an innate healing power across Nature, and spending time in her midst can offer possibilities for deep and profound healing. The healing power inherent in Nature is as inspiring as it is patient and true, and opportunities for healing across Nature are wonderfully extensive: being amongst plants and trees; listening to birds; basking in the beneficial rays of the Sun; breathing fresh air; appreciating blue skies, green foliage and flowers; watching butterflies, dragonflies, and bees; and interrelating with benevolent energies—all of these offer true therapeutic opportunities.

The magnificent design of Nature is glorious and awe-inspiring: captured by photographers and artists, studied by scientists and researchers, contemplated by seekers, and understood and honored by mystics. The legitimacy and integrity of Nature can help bring our soul more to the forefront of our existence, under which everything can improve. The benefits and blessings we can receive while being in Nature extend beyond what we experience with our five senses: Nature is a sacred space coded with divine truths, and is ideal for supporting evolvement of our awareness and reaching our highest potential. What we receive in revelation can expand our inner horizons and extend our understanding of the Divine. And when we pursue an ecological embrace with Nature, we establish a sacred relationship that can open a door to experience deep healings that are transformative.

When we enter nature’s sanctuaries, our own auras are magnetically recharged in these reservoirs of energy. – Flower A. Newhouse

Nature can help us expand our spiritual consciousness, advance our mental acuity, harmonize our emotions, and stimulate physical healing influences. Many people are in need of healing and of peace, and are seeking a deeper, yet more natural and gentle manner of healing. Fortunately, remarkable, high-quality therapies are tenderly offered in and by Nature. Nature can also help us heal our mind of the notions of scarcity and lack that are in defiance of spiritual truths. Nurturing the harmony of our inner being is not only worthwhile, it is essential for cultivating a thriving environment. Paramahansa Yogananda shared: after acquiring inward treasure, you will find that outward supply is always forthcoming.

Sometimes, we do not know the true root cause of our discomfort or disease, or why we feel unsettled, and at times, we are not sure how to move forward. Now and then, we medicate a crisis that in reality calls for spiritual direction that if embraced, could yield an opportunity for transformation. When we lose our way or need a prod in the right direction, Nature can provide guidance and can relay in a moment what could not be expressed in a thousand words. In the arms of Nature, we are important; we are recognized; and we are loved.

    Happily, Nature can:

    • soothe distress and help soothe lack of ease, or dis-ease

    • help us identify our true needs

    • help optimize our feelings of self worth and help us realize the true lightness of our being

Well-being is the normal inclination of Nature, and healing and achievement are the natural order of all living things. The character of Nature is one of balance, restoration, and regeneration. This underlying essence ensures widespread variety of responsibility across the elements and across plants and animals. Each natural event and each animal and plant have a function interwoven into Nature’s overall plan. Appreciating this universal truth and the wisdom of Nature can yield widespread revelations.

… the closer associations with nature, nature’s storehouse, and to the God of nature that is within and may manifest in self, will bring an awakening. – Edgar Cayce [Reading 2986-1]

    CHAPTER 2

The Sacred Healing Alchemy of Flowers

As key components of Nature, plants not only adorn the Earth with their beauty, they can also support our healing. Blessed with divine virtues and enriched with healing properties, plants contain a bounty of restorative properties. There are many ways to work with plants to cultivate healing: for example, phytotherapy, or the use of plants in healing—whether as foods, herbs, aromas, or essences—has been successfully practiced for centuries. The range of healing options generously offered by the plant kingdom can remind us of the abundant love of the creative forces and of Mother Earth. They remind us: "We are right here. Let us in and be healed."

When plant therapeutics and natural methods are pursued in a meaningful and reverential way, they offer the potential of true restorative benefits. Plants that are wild or are ecologically tended have remained naturally in intrinsic accord with universal laws, and working with them can help accelerate our evolvement and awaken our awareness of our highest potential. Cultivating the bond between plants and humans can help restore harmony to ourselves and to the cosmos. Both plants and animals have been waiting patiently for us to rouse from our extended slumber and reverently reconnect as friends and as colleagues.

All parts of creation are linked together and interchange their influences. – Paramahansa Yogananda

We have a symbiotic relationship with plants. Through the wonder of photosynthesis, plants alchemically combine the Sun’s solar energy with carbon dioxide and water and transform them into oxygen plus chemical energy (glucose). Chlorophyll is a unique substance in plants that facilitates this process through the capture and conversion of sunlight. Plants therefore, provide breathable air and a primary form of biological fuel. Plants also exclusively supply phytonutrients and fiber, and are the principal source of antioxidants—all valuable to good health. Further, while minerals are readily found in solid matter (as rocks and derivations thereof), in this form, we cannot easily absorb them; plants however, transform minerals into a form more-easily assimilated by humans. Without plants then, we could be insufficiently nourished and not have enough oxygen to breathe.

Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these." – Matthew 6:28-29

The knowledge keyed into plants is extensive. Plants know the secrets to divine living and not only share their nourishment and virtues with us multiple ways, they also model alchemy and transformation for us continually. Alchemy though, is a term that can represent multiple concepts: foundationally, alchemy represents the transformation of something from one form into another. One notion of alchemy centers on the discovery of a universal, renovating elixir, while another rests specifically on the transformation of matter: such as turning base metals into gold. Sacred alchemy includes transforming the self, and conceivably, the lore of transforming base metals into gold could metaphorically represent our own transformation from base matter into our higher, ascensional self.

We are already, masters of alchemy. We cannot help but transform continually as our very existence relies on alchemy. It is part of our being and inherent in our nature. We perform alchemy every day as our digestive system transforms nutrients in foods into forms usable by our body. We perform alchemy every time we create something wonderful. And we perform alchemy when we transform what were once limiting beliefs into newfound understandings and comprehensions of truth, that then become realized strengths.

Sacred alchemy can be achieved organically, and can be aided by the use of arcanums: secret remedies that can help us restore wholeness and health. Arcanums exist as divine insights; as spiritual assertions, intentions, and affirmations; as experiences and welcomed lessons; and, arcanums are found across Nature. One cache of arcanums in Nature is found in flowers.

While every part of a plant is truly precious, flowers especially contain a high concentration of life force. As enchanting expressions of divine manifestation, engaging directly with flowers—admiring and appreciating them, enjoying their magnificent beauty and fragrance, and contemplating the forces involved in their creation and growth—can offer accelerated and refined opportunities for healing. Flowers display colors, numbers, shapes, and forms in a harmonic sequence that together, articulate a language of light that can gently nudge us to higher levels of consciousness, facilitating our transformation and the recognition of our true potential. They broadcast a resonance that encourages our embodiment of increased light and a return to our celestial heritage.

I feel the delightful, velvety texture of a flower, and discover its remarkable convolutions, and something of the miracle of Nature is revealed to me. – Helen Keller

Individually and collectively, we occasionally face challenging experiences. Although they have the potential to be unsettling, it is during challenging times that we often realize that current answers are inadequate, and we open to the luminously ingenious solutions that had once been beyond our grasp. Flowers embody and reflect heavenly healing vibrations, and as vibrational beings ourselves, we resonate with their emanations. As energetic beings, we can entrain with the beautiful, divine patterns echoed in flowers, uncovering and growing those same patterns within ourselves. For example, we do carry patience, wisdom, peace, fortitude, compassion, hope, clarity, an ability to forgive, self-actualization, and an inner light within us. Those qualities and attributes as well as many wonderful others are there. Sometimes they just get buried, and we need to be re-minded of them so they can be uncovered, nurtured, and cultivated. Flowers reflect and broadcast these divine patterns, and can help clear away obstructions that can block the realization and living of our true nature as peaceful, evolved beings.

While on some level we might be familiar with our divine qualities and our higher nature, our heavenly persona and inner light can become partially buried under doubts, fears, hurts, and pains, until it can become a distant memory, even seeming beyond or apart from us. And although heavenly grace is always available to us, we often block it with those same feelings of doubt, fear, etc. Engaging with flowers though, can spark immediate reconnection to the divine presence and healing power, and can help us to recall, summon up, and integrate our own divine qualities. Forging a bond with our flower and Nature friends can bring about spiritual insights and understandings that help reawaken our precious, divine inheritance. All plants and their surrounding, benevolent energies cheer for us continually, knowing that the more we heal and ascend, the better it is for all of Creation.

As offspring of the Divine, we are sovereign unto ourselves. Infinite well-being is available to us, as long as we do not block its eager flow. Flowers reliably follow the divine blueprint, as does all of unadulterated Nature, and flowers model and remind us of a sacred connection between the Earth and the Light. With flowers, we are provided an up-close model of the divinity around us and within us and when we recognize its omnipresence, we are transformed.

Are not flowers the stars of the Earth? – Clara Lucas Balfour

In the presence of flowers then, we are ordained with numerous blessings. As channels for the divine forces, flowers carry spiritual patterns and messages that can lift our spirits. Flowers offer accelerated opportunities for evolutionary advancements, awakening higher properties in our spiritual consciousness that ultimately can be reflected as physical harmonization and restoration. Their promptings can gently remind us of the vast possibilities available to us. Flowers offer the opportunity of joyous transformation and true well-being, helping restore balance, harmony, and clarity. The gentleness of this approach has a quiet strength, enmeshed in peace. In light of this, engaging with flowers and absorbing their luminous, etheric essence can unlock keys to the potential of transcendent healing. On the whole, being in the presence of flowers can lift our vibration and support our ascension—we can be recalibrated in their presence. Our faithful enthusiasm and loving persistence and trust can help ensure results.

Releasing the spiritual and medicinal properties stored in flowers is one of the great keys to unfolding God’s plan on the Earth plane. – Gurudas, in Flower Essences and Vibrational Healing

The idea of the butterfly effect is that events occur based on unity and a small change can trigger much bigger events, even at a distance and/ or over time. Otherwise said, small variances in preliminary conditions can result in distinctive and divergent results, particularly with highly complex systems, including not only in Nature, but also in human development. For example, many of us know someone where just one event or insight changed the course of their life, or perhaps we have even experienced it ourselves. Insights often precede transformation. A change in how we think and feel can change any unhelpful track we may have been on and change the outcome. The enchantment of a flower, with its spiritual and therapeutic properties, has the potential to change someone if they are open to it. It is no accident that revelations commonly occur in Nature.

At the heart of every condition is a vibrational pattern—and a rather minor tweaking of vibrational patterning (sort of like the hub of a wheel) can affect tremendously out there on the periphery of the big wheel. A little bit of tweaking on the emotion can make a big difference in the way the physical manifestation occurs. – Ester Hicks

We also understand how one person can make a profound difference in the life of another. Imagine for example if someone modeled self-actualization and adaptive coping for others—i.e., how to find happiness within and tackle challenges in a constructive manner. Imagine how much their life could change. And when we wonder: I am just one person, what can I do to make a difference? we only need to have faith that one small event can have a notable impact. We never truly know for example, how that one thing we said to someone or modeled for another—those words of encouragement or a demonstration of compassion or resiliency—rippled forward in their life. Everything we do can make a difference.

To have made even one person’s life a little better, that is to succeed. – Henry David Thoreau

Many people are struggling. The resulting stress they experience could be positive (called eustress), manifesting as the resolve
