    Introduction

God made you unique on purpose because He has a plan that only your personality, background, temperament, mindset, and skills can fulfill. Embrace who you are – stop the comparisons.

    - Dr. Tony Evans

As a young girl growing up in the small town of Brinkley, Arkansas, I knew I was a little different. I was five years old before I ever spoke my first words. Early one Christmas morning, the words began to pour from my mouth in complete sentences. During my first five years, I suppose I mentally learned how to speak by listening to the conversations of my parents and my five older siblings (I am the sixth of eight children), along with listening to the words from books that were read to me. I enjoyed listening to my parents study the Bible with another married couple who came to our home on Saturday evenings for a weekly Bible study. The four of them would read the stories of the Bible out loud, and I would quietly sit on the floor captivated by their discussion of the scriptures.

Fast forward five years to my approximate age of ten.

One Sunday, I was listening to the preaching of God’s word at one of our regular church services. I can’t honestly say that I listened to the entire sermon, but I do remember that the Pastor was extremely emphatic about his confession of Jesus! He explained God’s Trinity, declared John 3:16 and opened the doors of the church which was also known as the Call to Christ. The Pastor jumped and shouted Jesus a few more times as he wiped the sweat from his head and face! The congregation shouted, danced and some people cried tears of joy! The choir sang a softer song, the ushers sat two chairs at the front of the church and the Pastor reiterated John 3:16 as he commissioned everyone to walk up the aisle and take a seat at the alter if they had not been saved. The Pastor declared that those who believed and wanted to confess that Jesus is the Son of God, that He died on the cross and rose in three days to pay for our sins, could come forward to be saved and spend eternity with Jesus!

I believed everything the Pastor affirmed about Jesus, according to John 3:16… God loved the people of this world so much that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who has faith in Him will have eternal life and never really die. (CEV)

Even though I was introverted, I suddenly felt that nothing could stop me from walking up the aisle to make my Jesus confession and to accept my gift of salvation…and so I did!

If you are reading this book my beloved young friend, I hope you have taken this awesome first step to the beginning of the first day of your eternal life! If you have yet to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then it is my prayer that this book will lead you to accepting your gift of salvation! You don’t have to take the steps the same way I did, and you don’t have to be in church. Jesus is always with you, waiting for you to believe, receive and confess that He is your Lord and Savior! Without this first step, it’s impossible to fulfill the plan that God has for your life!

Mrs. E, can’t I work hard and become anything I dream of becoming in life?

I’m happy you asked that question. Yes, you can work hard and become a lot of things in life, but it doesn’t mean you will fulfill your divine calling, and it certainly doesn’t mean you will have God’s best! God’s plan is your purpose in life.

You may feel like you’re different, socially awkward and lacking talent. Maybe you are comparing yourself to other people who seem to have it all! Are you asking God why He didn’t give you extraordinary athletic, artistic or singing abilities? Are you wondering if there is at least one thing you’re good at? I understand, I have asked those same questions, and I was still asking them just a few years ago!

The purpose of this book is to share life lessons of hope and grace in the form of a parable, which is a fictional story, and to inspire you to seek and discover that thing that God created you to do in this life! My inspiration for writing this book came from Old Testament events written in the Holy Bible and some of my childhood and adult life experiences. This book is not meant to be one hundred percent scripturally accurate. However, it is meant to serve a twofold purpose; to reflect God’s love for his creations and to assist you with understanding that God has given EVERYONE the skills and abilities needed to fulfill His purpose for our lives and it’s up to us to accept it through faith as we discover it. Ask God to reveal His purpose to you for your life now so you can begin to walk in it! It may not be revealed all at once but He will guide you every step of the way.

May your life flourish in God’s love and abundance!

    chapter 1.

    He Gave Them Dreams

Running slowly, she synchronizes each breath with her rhythmic stride. Her long wavy hair is adorned with a few lines of grey as it flows in a soft morning breeze. She meditates on the soothing sound of water flowing in a nearby creek. Suddenly, there’s an interruption to her tranquil run; she notices several runners in great despair dropping out of the race. She approaches the distressed runners; grabs hold of their hands, calmly whispers a divine promise to them and hears a voice saying… The People know me, and they believe! Immediately, all the people are lifted into the air above every obstacle and placed over the finish line.

Zemora, Zemora! the sound of a voice in the distance calls out. Where are you? I know you’re out here!

Zemora is awakened by the voice of her friend Keturah as she draws near. Zemora rubs her eyes, pulls herself up from underneath a large palm tree and answers the call. I’m over here Ke, what’s up?

What were you doing Ze? I’ve been looking all over for you. I stopped by your house and your mom said you were most likely taking a walk on this side of the island.

(Zemora nods her head and responds to Keturah)

Yes, I was walking and thinking about a few things when I decided to stop and sit underneath this tree, and I guess I fell asleep.

Ke, I just had a strange dream about a woman, probably around the age of fifty-five, who was peacefully running when she saw several other people running a marathon. She noticed the people were distressed and dropping out of the race, so she helped them by whispering a divine promise to them. The one detail in the dream that resonated with me was a voice that spoke to her and said … ‘The people know me, and they believe!’ After the woman had taken their hands and heard the voice; she and all of the runners were lifted into the air and placed over the finish line.

Keturah is both intrigued and perplexed by her best friend’s dream as she mentally replays the details and attempts to interpret the meaning.

Keturah and Zemora are best friends and are always eager to help each other. They have lived on this enchanted island for all of their sixteen years, along with Keturah’s twin brother Kephra, and the three of them are inseparable!

Mawuli is a beautiful, fortified island with an abundance of fruit, vegetables, beans and grains. The island consists of a few small close-knit tribal communities of indigenous people who love and care for each other. Life on Mawuli island is unchallenged because the land serves Mawulians well. As long as the people plant the seeds, the soil will always reap an abundant harvest.

During ancient times, Mawuli mysteriously developed an invisible barrier which shields the island against any danger that could disrupt its harmonious environment. No crime or natural disasters exist in this amazing land.

The girls walk up the road to the farm where they see Zemora’s father Zion harvesting vegetables. Zion is a strong, upstanding farmer. He is well known for his moral values, genuine love for humankind and he is a well-respected tribal leader.

As the girls approach Zion, they enthusiastically greet him and offer to help with harvesting the vegetables. Zion responds by giving them a big hug while politely declining their offer and informing them that he and the men have
