#1 I have never been a morning person, and I was definitely not a fan of the cold Iowa winter. In January 1988, the temperature dropped to minus fifteen degrees overnight, and the wind cut under your coat and squeezed your bones.
#2 I was sent to the drop box to pick up some books, when I heard a noise. It was an animal, and it was cold and shaking. I couldn’t believe how cold it was. I had to do something.
#3 I was prepared to keep the kitten when someone asked what should be done with him. I had already thought through the library’s policy on cats, and I wanted to make the library more welcoming and appealing.
