George Moore
George Moore (1852-1933) was an Irish poet, novelist, memoirist, and critic. Born into a prominent Roman Catholic family near Lough Carra, County Mayo, he was raised at his ancestral home of Moore Hall. His father was an Independent MP for Mayo, a founder of the Catholic Defence Association, and a landlord with an estate surpassing fifty square kilometers. As a young man, Moore spent much of his time reading and exploring the outdoors with his brother and friends, including the young Oscar Wilde. In 1867, after several years of poor performance at St. Mary’s College, a boarding school near Birmingham, Moore was expelled and sent home. Following his father’s death in 1870, Moore moved to Paris to study painting but struggled to find a teacher who would accept him. He met such artists as Pissarro, Degas, Renoir, Monet, Mallarmé, and Zola, the latter of whom would form an indelible influence on Moore’s adoption of literary naturalism. After publishing The Flowers of Passion (1877) and Pagan Poems (1881), poetry collections influenced by French symbolism, Moore turned to realism with his debut novel A Modern Lover (1883). As one of the first English language authors to write in the new French style, which openly embraced such subjects as prostitution, lesbianism, and infidelity, Moore attracted controversy from librarians, publishers, and politicians alike. As realism became mainstream, Moore was recognized as a pioneering modernist in England and Ireland, where he returned in 1901. Thereafter, he became an important figure in the Irish Literary Revival alongside such colleagues and collaborators as Edward Martyn, Lady Gregory, and W. B. Yeats.

My experience as a leader
This book is dedicated to God Almighty for granting me the inspiration and empowerment to write, teach and encourage. It is also dedicated to my successor, Paul Kargbo, who had been an example of loyalty during my tenure as my assistant. Aslo Emeh Marah and Juliana A. Kamara who formed part of my closest and most loyal associates.
They were (like in the case of Jesus) my Peter, James and John.
It is dedicated to the whole leadership team and the rest of the members of the youth fellowship of the Jesus is
Lord Ministries – Lakka Branch. I am so grateful to you all to a point I want to pour out my soul and wisdom into you all for greater grace and elevation. Finally, it is dedicated to all my mentees who look up to me for examples as well as all my mentors for raising me up.
‘If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders
of Giants’ Sir Isaac Newton
Background
Having served the youth fellowship of my local church for five years and about to handover, I thought of sharing my experience over the years with my successor and the next leadership team to have a baseline to begin with, and a source and reference for wisdom in their own journey.
I first planned to do this in a retreat with them. Therefore, a three days’ retreat was summoned, but little did I know that I have so much to share than the time designated to share my experience as a leader. The retreat finished and could not even cover one third of the bullet points I had prepared.
Time seemed not enough to get them together for this. Even if I do, time might be a challenge to share everything. But in contemplating what would be my gift to the next leadership team as I hand over, I thought of nothing of so great a value than sharing the wisdom I have gathered over the years. Why not put my experience together in a book and hand it over to my successor on the handing over ceremony, and as well share to all who may be interested? Experience is one of the greatest sources of wisdom today, and mine may not in any less help others and probably make all the difference in anyone’s lives or leadership journey.
Reflecting back on my experience as a leader, I discovered that I have learnt great lessons long before I came to realize myself in any leadership position. Therefore, sharing my experience not only limited to the past five years as leader in the youth fellowship of my local church, but since childhood. No wonder I quickly find myself in leadership position anywhere I go.
Acknowledgement
I am grateful to God for His grace, natural endowment and blessing in my life. I thank Him especially for the leadership abilities, opportunities, successes and influences, wisdom and potential He has granted me. To Him alone be all the glory.
I am grateful to my beautiful virtuous wife for her incredible support, love and encouragement that made this work possible at the speed in which it was done. I appreciate the whole family: my mother, who was around at the time of writing this book. Her trainings, together with my father’s, distinguished me early from other kids and adults today. My younger sister, Esther, and my sister-inlaw, Memah. Nephews:
