Chapter 01

Introduction of Medical Astrology

Astro-diagnosis is the science and art of obtaining scientific knowledge regarding disease and its causes as shown by the planets, as well as the means of overcoming it. This new science of diagnosis and healing is slowly permeating the medical world. It is a science which will not set aside the old school of medicine and diagnosis, but it is an addition to the old school The latter, we feel, will in time accept this newer method. At present many physicians are willing to cooperate with the newer schools of osteopathy, nature-cure, chiropractic, etc., and these open-minded men are ready to accept a more advanced method of diagnosis when it has been demonstrated to them as reliable.

Depending entirely upon outward symptoms in locating disease and relying wholly upon the action of medicine have cost millions of lives in the ages past. But man is now becoming too enlightened, too broadminded to stick stubbornly to old methods which have been proved by many mistakes, by the sacrifice of many lives, to be inadequate. Medical science with its improved instruments, the X-ray, iri-diagnosis, blood tests, etc., has made great strides toward better methods of diagnosis. But the time is not far hence when it will be generally conceded that to know in advance where human chain is weakest, to understand by the science of the stars where the practitioner may look for trouble, is by far the best way. Doctors will then arrive very quickly at the cause of disease, and they will also know what methods will be best to effect a cure. When they can use the key to the soul, the horoscope, they will find the treatment to which the patient will respond. They will also know the character of the patient, whether his will is weak, and whether he is negative or emotional. They will then be guided in their methods of treatment according to the information thus obtained.

Disease may be classed under two heads, latent and active. Symptoms give indication of disease which is in process of materializing. Latent tendencies to disease are shown by the planetary afflictions in the horoscope of birth. In some instances these tendencies may remain latent during the entire life because the native has lived in such a manner that no strain was put on the body which would give the planets a chance to develop their latent weakness. If there is a weak link in a chain but no strain is put upon it, the chain will remain whole. So in the case of planetary afflictions, they too may remain latent. But let the native abuse his body and at once these weak spots will appear. This gives us the second class of disease, the active type. When the planetary aspects have been stirred into action and disease has appeared, the progressed planetary positions give the diagnostician the key to it.

When the medical men, the scientists, the occult scientists, and the astrologers have reached a friendly understanding, when the budding discoveries and the broader thoughts of man are no longer at variance with each other, then humanity will know that the terrors and the pain of the operating room are things of the past. Then buoyant health will be universally enjoyed, for mankind will be taught how to live in order to avoid suffering. The doctors will be just as anxious to keep people well as they now are to help them to recover from disease. The time is not far hence, we believe, when the government will feel the necessity of paying doctors a yearly salary to teach the people how to avoid the pitfalls which lead to disease.

The term Medical Astrology, which has even served as the title for a book, is very controversial, because the factors of astrology said to relate to health and illness require a different way of thinking than that of the hard end of medical science, with its emphasis on allopathic methods and practices.

Astrology addresses the flow of energies through your personality in a way that can be very helpful toward understanding how you can be stressed unto illness or how you resolve tension that produces illness, through a study of the Sixth House of your birthchart and the placements and movements of related factors through the course of your life.

If you can recall or recreate the feeling you have just before an important meeting with another person, especially when very high stakes of some kind are involved, you have a sense of what the Sixth House means in your birthchart. This feeling of intense anticipation and urgency for preparation is characteristic of the Sixth House phase of your personal cycle of development.

This is how it works. Astrology applies the very essence of holistic philosophy, because it addresses the human organism in relation to the greater whole (organism) of the solar-planetary system in which it operates. This goes to root causes at the quantum-genetic level in terms of symbolism designed to represent cyclic rhythms of biological processes on Earth. Astrology provides a way to think about your life in subjective terms that are intimately involved with the workings of your body, particularly the manner in which you hold your metabolism and regulate stress.

Consciously attuning to these energy flows and patterns certainly does not take the place of needed treatment based on conventional medical procedures, but it can help to enable you to adopt attitudes and perspectives that put you in an advantageous position to maximize the benefits of all approaches to health care and treatment.

So what is your Sixth House, and why does it have anything to do with your health? Your birthchart is a map of the solar-planetary system from a specific time and place on Earth (your birth moment). It is drawn as a circle divided into twelve pie-slice sections with upper and lower halves (sky and earth) divided by the Horizon. The twelve houses of your birthchart are numbered in the order that they rise above the eastern Horizon (the Ascendant) on the left side of the birthchart (counter-clockwise) as Earth rotates eastward.

Your first six houses (below your Horizon) represent six stages of your inner personal development, working on the substance of your personality, as it were. Your last six houses, Seventh through Twelfth (above your Horizon), represent six stages of your outer personal development, working with other people and the community at large.

Your Sixth House is the last of the first six houses (below your Horizon), immediately preceeding your Seventh House (the first of the houses above your Horizon). Your Sixth House must therefore complete the process of inner development required to prepare you for the ordeal of dealing with other people, in the bridal suite, the boardroom, on the battlefield, or whatever the arrangement.

For this fundamental reason, the processes associated with your Sixth House (health, work and devotion), are brought into play in the cycle of your personal development in a manner characterized by the sign on its cusp (the dividing line between your Fifth and Sixth Houses) in your birthchart. Furthermore, the planet that rules that sign executes the function of your personality that most directly conditions your metabolism and the manner that you process stress.

If you know your rising sign, chances are you have the sign preceeding the sign opposite your rising sign on the cusp of your Sixth House. (It is best to consult a properly constructed birthchart.) For example, if you have Aries rising, then the sign opposite Aries is Libra, and the sign preceeding Libra is Virgo. Therefore, with Aries rising, you probably have Virgo on your Sixth House cusp.

In that case, your health issues would be characterized by Virgoan concerns of prudent management of your personal affairs and useful techniques for solving problems resourcefully. Your health would also be closely attuned with and modulated by the planet Mercury, both in terms of its placement in your birthchart and its transiting and progressed movements in relation to natal factors.

You must understand your whole birthchart in order to put knowledge of your Sixth House to good use toward understanding your health, or perhaps your role as a health care provider. Again, this is due to the holistic nature of all astrological knowledge. The references provided above, however, are enough to enable you to look at your birthchart and immediately recognize meaningful perspectives on matters pertaining to health in your life. The benefits of these perspectives can only be enhanced by further study into how they play into the entire natal configuration.

In these stressful times, due to an ongoing onslaught of intensely focused planetary transits over the past year and continuing into the year ahead, it becomes all the more important to have astrological perspectives on how these challenges affect our health and bodily well being. World culture is entering a purging phase that manifests at biological as well as political and economic levels.

What is the sign on the cusp of your Sixth House? How is the planetary ruler of that sign placed in your birthchart? Is the ruling planet of your Sixth House a personal, social or transformative planet? Are any planets natally placed in your Sixth House? How do you experience planetary transits through your Sixth House? These are all questions that pertain to your health.

Medical Astrology is considered the most uncertain part of Astrology, although it is one of the oldest aspects of Astrology itself. In our opinion, this is partly true: first of all there’s a lack of statistic studies concerning this subject, and while hereditary astrologic factors or the planetary incidence on the character are statistically analyzed, an unconscious fear seems to prevent the same rational application of statistic-mathematical criteria to planetary or zodiacal symbols determining the different diseases. Moreover, main diseases evolved in a directly proportional rate to his progress in knowledge, so, if in ancient times, the plague could be a great scourge, following the tubercolosis had this role up to today when it’s AIDS. This is why, following old parameters, it’s hard to classify pathologies which were non-existent up to few decades ago and which we wish will be so in future.

Yet, despite the above described difficulties, the Astrologic Medicine itself offers the most starting points for researches and acts like trying desk for some astrologic theories concerning the planetary dignity or the zodiacal symbols if referred to the Man-Zodiac.

In this space we want to offer a starting point to study in depth this interesting topic step after step, starting from the first assumptions to interpret a Natal Chart from the point of view of Medical Astrology.

An important explanation is necessary: this column doesn’t mean to substitute the medico, on the contrary, it intends to offer a method for a better comprehension of weaker points, astrologically speaking, and as a consequence to keep under stronger control.

Elements

The 12 Zodiacal Signs are usually gathered in different categories: binary group (Masculine and feminine Signs), triple (Cardinal, fixed and mobile Signs) or quaternary.

This group is made according to the elements of the signs, which are Earth, Air, Fire, Water. The origin of this classification, like the other ones, is very antique, and its purposes are deeper than the mere association to four substances we can find in nature. Many centuries ago, Hippocrates, indisputable father of medicine, founded his doctrine using the division of the Man in four basic kinds. According to their morphology, with precise psychological and pathological features. The four tempers are the following: bilious (associated to the Fire element), sanguine (Air), lymphatic (Water) and nervous (Earth).

Fire

The first of the four elements is transforming, because the heat dilates changing shapes and is mostly ambivalent: saving element the purifies, regenerates and supplies the so-called inner fire but, if it is out of control, is completely destroying and devouring, like passions or violence.

Its staring place, in the quaternary subdivision of the Zodiac (which starts from Aries, a Fire sign), represents the birth, the creation giving new impulse to life. The bilious temper, corresponding to the Fire, denotes an active, dynamic person, with a thousand passions, authoritarian, taking initiative, and cares a lot for his/her independence. If individualism is too strong, it can lead to a true despotism, and the qualities of courage and creativity, if out of control, can degenerate into violence and destruction.

Earth

Earth represents the solid element, the shape, the way to canalize, crystallize, and structure powers, and symbolizes solitude and materiality.

Just like the tree rising toward the sky only if its roots are strong, also for the man the contact with the ground is essential for his balance. It’s not by chance that A. Lowen, psycho-therapeutic and founder of the biogenetic, identifies the real difficulty to maintain the contact with the ground as a pathologic feature of the oral character. In patients with this temper feature, in fact, their feet even if bare, have no adherence to the ground. On the contrary, these people tend to stand on tiptoe, or always look for higher place, prefering to seat, for example, on a table instead of a chair. However, the opposite tendency, that is an excessive adherence to the ground, is considered as a pathology as well, structuring in the so-called rigid feature.

Earth can be light, powdery, heavier because of the water, comfortable or dry, but is always concrete and measurable.

The temper corresponding to this element is the nervous one, where inwardness and cerebrality dominate. Sensitiveness is shaded by a cool veil, and is reflective, thoughtful, and reserved in a way. To look at everything in an inward way can lead to deep thoughts or to a kind of refuse. There’s the tendency to be methodic and concrete, but if in an exaggerate way, this tendency can turn to misanthropy, egoism, and to economize on everything.

Air

Air symbolizes the first impulse to dilate, to expand, to prepare, corresponding to the gaseous stage with molecular mobility and dispersion.

It represents the boundary between Earth and Sky, that is the contact point between spirituality and material and, in a wiser view, it indicates the capability to sublimate materialistic impulses.

The air conveys, lifts, dilates; a man who doesn’t accept any constriction is said to be free as the wind.

The corresponding temper is the sanguine one. This is a person who loves contacts, human relationships, exchanging ideas, and usually has a precise role in the social life. Fervour and enthusiasm make these people friendly, warm, and optimistic but, if these values are too strong, susceptibility and vanity grow so to become snobbery.

As far as the physic is concerned, this element is related to the circulatory and respiratory systems.

Water

The water is the primordial element of life, it was present on the Earth even before the man or other species appeared.

It is a non differing substance, with no particular colour –it reflects the sky instead -, is related to the birth and to the re-birth. It is also dissolvent, because the liquid tends to dissociate, to destroy shapes, and to absorb them.

The Ocean, with its dark depths, symbolizes the unconsciousness, the dark and inaccessible side of everyone of us.

The liquid element is sensitive, adaptable –water can both solidify or evaporate, passive.

The corresponding temper is the lymphatic one, whose inclination is toward passivity and calmness. The person with this

attitude tends to suffer, to get adapted, is receptive and impressionable up to develop a poetic and utopian attitude.

From the physical point of view lymph and glands, vegetative and digestive systems are associated to this kind.

Zodiac Signs and Planets

Each one of zodiacal signs dominates a precise part of the body, so it tends to suffer more easily specific pathologies. However, it is more correct to talk about axis because the most delicate part is always designed both by the organs a given sign dominates and by the ones dominated by the opposite sign. For example, Scorpio dominates the reproductive apparatus and although it is the really vulnerable part of Scorpio, it is often the throat, which is dominated by the opposite Taurus, to be pathologically more sensitive.

Zodiac Signs

Aries (March 21-April 19)

From a health perspective, Aries always lead with their heads. Ask any Aries if they’ ve ever had a head injury, a concussion or scars on or about the head somewhere, they always say: Yes. Some of you Aries types may have awful, constant headaches from an old concussion or injury you sustained many years before. Aries rules the head of the body, the brain and the skull. Aries also rules the outer ears, the nose and skin on the face and head. Many Aries get blood pounding, throbbing or hammering headaches after they get angry because their blood pressure has skyrocketed. Older Aries have to watch this because they are prone to high blood pressure in later life. They should have an annual check up to keep tabs on this potential condition. What can happen is if it’s not diagnosed, it can wear out the capillaries and veins in your brain matter and a stroke can occur. Most Aries complain of headaches—all types and varieties. Stress always begins and ends for Aries within their head, so headaches are quite common to a good percentage of them. Migraines can attack too, when you’ re really under big time stress.

Taurus (April 20 - May 20)

You’ re a person of impeccably good taste. No one loves food more than you do—gourmet or connoisseur quality. And therein lies a possible problem, weight gain. There is another reason for weight gain that comes within the purview of the Taurus domain—a hypothyroid condition. Your skin turns dry or even flaky anywhere over your body. Hair loss from your scalp becomes unavoidable. Tiredness is another culprit to be watched upon. Low blood pressure is also a notable problem for the Taurean. Taurus, regardless of gender, always has throat -related problems such as hoarseness, colds that settle in their throat and make them absolutely miserable. They are often more susceptible toStrep infections, or have longer, meaner sore throats than any other Sun sign. All this can be helped nutritionally as well as homeopathically. You aren’t the most physically active Sun sign in the zodiac. Another great thing about you is your love of all kinds of foods—you are not a picky eater like some other zodiac signs and you usually get a good deal of fruits, vegetables, bread and meat. Taurus people instinctively know the wisdom of eating all foods.

Gemini (May 21 - June 21)

Versatile, multi-talented Gemini gets sick because he or she just tries to do too much, too fast and their central nervous system goes awry on them from the incredible stress load put on it. Gemini’s run on nerve-energy fuel. Other areas that Gemini is likely to get injured or have to pay attention to, health-wise, are their hands, arms, shoulders and lungs. Most Gemini’ s, when they get sick, get over it very quickly. If everyone else is having a 7 day cold, you will get it for 3 or 4. Gemini also has ruler-ship over the Eustachian tubes that run from the ear into our lymph gland system. The other tubes in our body that Gemini rules is the fallopian tubes in a woman, the ureter tubes and the urethra. Colds just naturally gravitate to your lungs, which is your weak link in your body. So, other ailments such as bronchitis and pneumonia can stalk you, too. If you would take an hour out of your hurry-scurry day, Gemini, and do some yoga or meditation, this would really keep most of the colds and flu away from you.

Cancer (June 22 - July 22)

Cancers live their lives through their stomach. They have a wonderful sense for the taste, texture and fragrance of the food they eat. Milk and dairy products are so important to you. However, dairy products can get you into a real jam too, and in more than one way. Cancer also has ruler-ship over the sacs of the body. The eyeballs, the cheeks of the face, the uterus and stomach are all sacs of some kind that hold something. They are all under Cancer’s domain and these consequently become the weak points of this sign’s superstructure. Usually, Cancer’s main problem comes from the stomach or digestive region, Cancers are more prone to cataracts and glaucoma than a lot of other zodiac signs, simply because it has ruler-ship over the eyes and everything that goes on with them. Heave a sigh of relief—you’ re not getting the disease cancer because you were born under the Sun sign of Cancer!! It’s just a coincidence that is meaningless, thank goodness. Cancer can’t help but be super emotional because your ruler is the Moon, which astrologically rules our sub-conscious and emotions/feelings. There’s no magic pill to deal with our emotions! But poor Cancer has his and her hands full with their vibrant mass of constantly shifting feelings, intuition, and emotions. Hence they need to keep their emotions under check.

Leo (July 23 - Aug 22)

Health wise, Leo rules the heart and circulatory system. Leo is a fixed sign, which means he or she has definite opinions, ideas and ways that they should operate in our world. Disappointment emotionally for a Leo goes straight to his or her heart—and with enough of these hurts, it begins to take a toll on this magnificent organ in this magnificent sign and person. So, it’s not surprising that many Leos, especially men, get heart attacks in their forties. Leo needs fresh air, walking or jogging or some form of moderate exercise to keep their circulatory system running at peak speed. If, for some reason, Leo gets sedentary and doesn’t feel like getting off the couch, then circulatory problems could set in—such a phlebitis, which, if not caught in time, can be deadly. Or, they may experience some tingling or coldness in the fingertips or toes. Sometimes, if they bend over and then straighten up too fast, they can get lightheaded or dizzy for a moment or two. Or, you will get out of breath very easily; these are signs of a circulatory system under distress. Don’t take anything straight to the heart and take life as it comes by, Leo !!

Virgo (Aug 23 - Sept 22)

No one is more health conscious than you, Virgo. Every germ, bacteria and virus, comes under your personal scrutiny. And no one is more aware of the spreading of germs, so you may wash your hands frequently—just to make sure you’ re not carrying one about or transmitting it elsewhere. Virgos do best on a grain type of diet, with vegetables, some fruit and a little meat (poultry or fish). They are more apt to be vegetarian or vegans, than any other sign in the zodiac. Meat is repugnant to them. One reason is they have such a soft heart for animals.Virgo rules many things anatomically speaking; among them, our liver, which is the major cleansing station of the body to get rid of poisons and toxins that could kill us. Another is the pancreas, which keeps our blood sugar stable—if it isn’ t, then we’ re open to hypoglycemia or low blood sugar, or hyperglycemia, which is diabetes. Many Virgos have indigestion, but it comes from a sluggish liver, not from weak stomach digestive acids. These are the weak organs for Virgo: the liver and the pancreas, plus the small intestines. Unfortunately, when Virgos get stressed out, they get diarrhea.

Libra (Sept 23 - Oct 22)

Born with beauty and brains, Libra has it all. Whether you’ re man or woman, there’s a wonderful internal beauty that just glows through you and everyone sees it. You have the nicest complexion in the Zodiac. Others may spend huge amounts to try and get what you have naturally. The weak link in your body as a Libra is yourkidneys .Skin problems like dry patches of skin here and there, red/itchy skin, acne-like eruptions, or later, it will be misdiagnosed as eczema or psoriasis are also common. Headaches may come and go for seemingly, no reason at all. General fatigue or tiredness is also predominant.

By cleaning up your diet: no milk, ice cream or cheese once every 7 days, lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, and some whole grains, the kidneys will become cleaner and begin to work up to their full potential. And then, these symptoms will gradually go away over time.

Scorpio (Oct 23 - Nov 21)

Scorpio is one of the strongest, healthiest signs in the zodiac, partly because you are such a powerful energy to begin with. Your ability to be strong and persevering is wonderful in many ways, but if you begin to ignore and hide from your intense feelings and emotions, then health trouble is brewing. One area of weakness for Scorpio is the large intestin e, especially the colon region. Scorpios have an awful problem with constipation. You can change your diet to a rule: drink plenty of water (4-6 glasses daily), have a high fiber diet.Get plenty of exercise too. Just moving around, sometimes, helps. Most importantly, stay in touch with your feelings and talk about them. Scorpio’s other weak spot is theirreproductive system. Scorpios have a very strong, robust sex drive and consequently, may enjoy many more sexual contacts than some other zodiac signs. So, safe sex is Scorpio’s by-word. If you don’t practice safe sex, then because the reproductive region is your weak link, you are open to STD’ s—sexually transmitted diseases. Worse, HIV and AIDS is out there.

Sagittarius (Nov 22 - Dec 21)

Sagittarius is the healthiest of the twelve signs. You rarely come down with anything, and if you do, it’s a fleeting cold or a 24-hour type of flu—and that’s all. Jupiter, your ruling planet, has really done you a favour. Sagittarius rules over our exhaled breath, the sciatic nerve and our hip region of our body. Athletically, you are one of the most active of the zodiac signs. Shallow breathers is a syndrome that you and Gemini share exclusively. So, if you don’t breath out fully you are in for more trouble. Usually, Sagittarius women end up with big hips and abundant thighs. Weight will gather there as you grow older and there’s not much you can do about it. The guys usually stay thin and they don’t get this extra gift of weight. One thing, though, regardless of your gender, is sustaininginjury to the lower part of your body; a cracked pelvis, a broken hip or thigh. Or, a lot of bruises, cuts or scratches occur in this region. The worst is sciatica, which is the inflammation of a very large nerve that runs from the lower spine, down through your buttocks, your thigh and all the way down to the heel of your foot. This is a big, long, central nerve pathway. For Sagittarians, Sciatica gets inflamed from time to time.

Capricorn (Dec 22 - Jan 19)

Being the symbol of half fish and half goat, this is an interesting combination. Your emotions are very rarely shown or displayed publicly, and even in private, you are conservative and careful with whom you share them. All of this can lead to health problems in the future if you don’t speak up and speak out at the appropriate times. If you stuff your feelings and don’t get them out, then a certain medical condition can result: Gallbladder inflammation. Capricorns are prone to gallstones, which are usually soft, fatty globules that form in the gallbladder. Symptoms of a gallbladder attack often parallel a heart attack. There can be a heartburn kind of feeling in the central chest region, and it can literally feel like a fire is burning inside you. Another weak area for all Capricorn’s are your knees. When they get up or sit down, their knees pop, crack and make funny, sometimes embarrassing sounds that everyone else can hear. Many Capricorn’s have weak knees or problems in that area which may require surgery later on. Capricorn’s get scars, scratches, cuts, bruises and other injuries on their knees more than any other part of their body. Swimming and horse riding are advised for them but they should avoid walks

Aquarius (Jan 20 - Feb 18)

Potatoes, bread, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti, and pastas of any kind, all starch-loaded items are your favourite foods in life, Aquarius. And while this is an excellent food group in moderation, Aquarians are not moderate at all in this area.Aquarians begin to get sleepy about 30 minutes to an hour after eating due to the high starch-content in their food. This is very bad for Aquarians particularly if they’ re driving or some other skill that requires them to be mentally alert. They need to choose items from other food groups, too. Be sure you have a salad and for dessert, a fresh fruit. But for this, the Aquarians generally lead a medically problem-free life.

Pisces (Feb 19 - March 20)

Pisceans come down most frequently with colds or flu. The lymph gland system is the main target in Pisceans. The muscles are the heart of the lymph gland system. So, exercise is vastly important to you. Water is your medium, so swimming is one of the best ways to massage your lymph gland system because all the muscles of the body are used in this form of exercise. Your health is completely predicated upon your emotional structure, Pisces. You are one of the most highly emotional signs in the zodiac (Cancer is second and Scorpio is third), and your health or lack of it is directly tied to your feelings. Pisces health is directly connected to theirfeet- -and this is a weak point in you. Chances are you’ ve had more injuries to this part of your body than any other. Bruises, cuts, scrapes, and maybe even surgery. Many Pisces have bunions. Pisces have all kinds of foot problems, including Athlete’s foot. Take a walk when the Sun is rising or setting. Stay in tune with yourself for you have the best instincts and inner knowing than any other zodiac sign. Your body will talk to you and tell you what food it wants on a daily basis—so trust it—and yourself. Meditation and yoga are perfect health producers for you—so try them out. Swimming is wonderful for you, if there’s a pool nearby.

Significator of Planets

Sun

It indicates vitality, father inheritance, the right eye for man and the left one for the woman, the brain, and the right side of the body.

Moon

It is related to body liquids, to the left side of the body, to taste, to mother inheritance, to the uterus, to the stomach.

In Medical Astrology this Planet is very important most of all in case significant decisions have to be made to start medical treatments or surgeries, and precisely:

1.it’s worthy avoiding surgeries with the Moon is rising;

2.it’s worthy avoiding surgeries if Moon is passing through the Sign representing the organ needing surgery.

It is interesting to report indications the astrologer Magini, died in 1617, wrote in one of his almanacs, concerning disease course according to the Moon movements:

If the disease begins on the:

Mercury

According to the tradition, it is related to the tongue, the bile, and the rectum, but also to the nerve transmission, hormonal and enzymic messengers but also the sense of hearing in general.

Venus

Its domain is the smell, the skin, ovaries, feminine genital organs, the vagina, Falloppio’s tubas, extrogens and progestinics, tiroxine (an hormone produced by the thyroid, regulating the basic methabolism), the uro-genital system (the urethra, the bladder, the kidneys.) and the venous one. It also regulates the throat and tonsils, in fact it mainly improves ovary and kidney diseases.

Relating to health in general, if well-aspected in the theme, Venus indicates potentially a good health, and the contrary if afflict.

Mars

According to the tradition, it regulates the left ear, but it’s mostly related to masculine reproductive apparatus, and with the phallus in particular. Furthermore it regulates the blood, muscles, and testosterone.

Jupiter

It regulates sugars, lipids, the liver, and the gall-bladder. A particular attention is deserved to Morpurgo attributing the planet Jupiter to the sight and to the speech. Furthermore, because Jupiter is a planet related to the growth, its effect can be not always positive.

Saturn

According to the tradition, it is related to the left ear and to the skeleton system. If Jupiter stretches, on the contrary Saturn wrinkles, hardens, calcificates.

Uranus

This planet is related to electricity and, for extension, with the transmission of nervous impulses: one of our researches indicates, by this way, how this Planet is predominating mostly in aspect to the VI House, in cases of epilepsy, for this disease is connected to alterations of cerebral electric impulses (neurons). Anatomically speaking, it is also related to hands and thus from its position it is possible to tell the ability to receive or release prana(vital energy which is transmitted mainly by hands).

Neptune

All intracellular liquids and the amniotic liquid are related to this planet, as well as, the lymphatic system with its leucocytes and lymphocytes, which are necessary to immunitary system.

Pluto

If Mars represents the phallus, Pluto represents testicles and so both planets and their aspects will give information about the efficacy of masculine reproductive apparatus. Pluto is also related to the concept of life-death and so it is closely related with cancerous pathologies, when the death of the organism is determined by the uncontrolled growth of cells. An analysis of the planet, then, gives indications concerning the possible sexual deviations.

Chapter 02

Law of Correspondences of Medical Astrology

It is believed that the God made man in His likeness, and from hoary antiquity seers and sages have noted a correspondence between the macrocosm, the great world, and the microcosm, the little world, or man. This is again expressed in the hermetic axiom which is the master-key to all mysteries: As above, so below. Therefore we may note that the various parts of the human body are correlated to different divisions of the vaulted arch of heaven and the marching orbs that move through it. As the creative forces within the womb act upon the ovum and gradually build the fetus, so also the stellar rays from the macrocosmic body of mother nature are active upon man. It is their activity which we note in the process of evolution whereby that which is now man has come up through the lower kingdoms to his present stage of completion, and it is by the same rays that he will gradually evolve to the divine stature where he will indeed be like the Father in Heaven, consequently we may note the correspondences between the signs and planets and the different divisions of the human body as follows:

Significagtor of Twelve Zodiac Signs

Aries rules the head, the cerebral hemispheres, the various organs within the head, and the eyes, but the nose is under the rulership of Scorpio.

Thus any affliction in Aries will react upon the head, producing headaches, neuralgia, coma and trance conditions, diseases of the brain and cerebral hemorrhages.

Taurus rules the neck, throat, palate, larynx and tonsils, lower jaw, ears, and occipital region. The cerebellum is also under the rule of Taurus, so are the atlas and cervical vertebrae, the carotid arteries, jugular veins, and certain minor blood vessels.

The diseases to which these regions are subject are goiter, diphtheria, croup and apoplexy. As each sign always reacts upon the opposite, afflictions in Taurus may also produce venereal diseases, constipation, or irregular menses.

Gemini rules the arms and hands, shoulders, lungs, and the thymus gland, also the upper ribs, therefore afflictions in Gemini cause pulmonary diseases, pneumonia, pleurisy, bronchitis, asthma and inflammation of the pericardium.

Cancer rules the esophagus, stomach, diaphragm, pancreas, the mammae, lacteals, upper lobes of liver, and thoracic duct, hence afflictions in Cancer produce indigestion, gas in the stomach, cough, hiccough, dropsy, gloom, hypochondria, hysteria, gall stones, and jaundice.

Leo rules the heart, the dorsal region of the spine, the spinal cord, and the aorta, therefore the afflictions in Leo cause regurgitation, palpitation, faintings, aneurysm, spinal meningitis, and curvature of the spine, also arterio-sclerosis and angina pectoris, hyperaemia, anemia and hydraemia.

Virgo rules the abdominal region, the large and small intestines, the lower lobes of the liver, and the spleen, therefore afflictions in Virgo produce peritonitis, tapeworm, malnutrition, interference with the absorption of the chyle, typhoid fever, cholera, and appendicitis.

Libra rules the kidneys, the suprarenals, the lumbar region of the spine, the vasomotor system and the skin, hence afflictions in Libra produce polyuria, or suppression of the urine, inflammation of the ureters which connect the kidneys with the bladder, Bright’s disease, lumbago, eczema and other skin diseases.

Scorpio rules the bladder, urethra, and genital organs in general, also the rectum and the descending colon, the sigmoid flexure, the prostate gland, and the nasal bones; hence afflictions in Scorpio produce nasal catarrh, adenoids, and polypi, diseases of the womb and ovaries, various venereal diseases, stricture, and enlargement of the prostate gland, irregularities of the menses, leucorrhoea, rupture, renal stones and gravel.

Sagittarius rules the hips and thighs, the femur, ileum, the coccygeal and sacral regions of the spine, the iliac arteries and veins, sciatic nerves, hence afflictions to Sagittarius produce locomotor ataxia, sciatica, rheumatism, and hip diseases. Furthermore, as each sign has an influence upon its opposite, afflictions in Sagittarius may also cause pulmonary troubles. It is also noteworthy that broken bones are caused by this sign.

Capricorn governs the skin and the knees, but it has also a reflex action on the stomach, which is governed by the opposite sign Cancer. Hence afflictions in Capricorn produce eczema and other skin diseases, erysipelas, leprosy, and digestive disturbances.

Aquarius rules the ankles, the limbs from the knees to the ankles, and has also a reflex action on its opposite sign Leo, hence afflictions in Aquarius produce varicose veins, sprained ankles, irregularities of the heart action and dropsy.

Pisces rules the feet and toes. It also has a reflex effect on the abdominal region governed by the opposite sign, Virgo, hence afflictions in this sign indicate trouble and deformities of the feet, intestinal diseases and dropsy. It also produces a desire for drink and drugs which may bring about delirium tremens. Consumption is sometimes found to be a secondary result of cold in the feet contracted by an afflicted Pisces.

This vital fluid is invisible to ordinary humanity, but to those gifted with the spiritual sight it appears as a rose-coloured fluid which is like the electricity in the wires of a telephone or telegraph system. When the wires designed to carry electricity are minus the electric fluid they are dead and the telephone or telegraph instruments do not respond. Similarly, when for some reason the invisible vital fluid ceases to flow through any part of the human organism in sufficient quantity, that part of the body will not perform its proper function, and therefore disease results, continuing until some obstruction has been removed and the path cleared for the vital fluid. On that account an afflicted Sun always causes disease, particularly in a man’s horoscope, and in a woman’s nativity the Moon, which is the collector of solar forces, takes the same office or function. The heart and the pons varolii, or vital knot, situated in the brain, are the principal parts of the body ruled by the Sun. When the Sun is well aspected in Leo or Aries radiant health may be looked for. But on the other hand, when he is afflicted he produces the various ailments according to the sign wherein he is placed at the time. These
