This story has the potential to be a really good one. With that said I ended it disappointed. The author left too much hanging. I was left with too many questions. There were also quite a few grammer mistakes and some of the terms used to describe body parts were just weird.

Becoming Luna - Eliza Selmer

Chapter 1

Danica Robinson lounged on her bed reading her best friend Amy's text.

'Everything is ready.'

It was Danica's eighteenth birthday and her friends had insisted she needed to celebrate it in style, after all it was her emergence into adulthood. At least that was what they had insisted despite her protests.

Huffing Danica got up from her bed and walked over to her vanity allowing herself to study her reflection.

Curly black hair surrounded her pale freckle covered face, golden eyes that were surrounded by thick lashes stared back at her with a look of annoyance in them.

Even reflection her was against her evening plans, she thought with a smirk that caused her cheeks to dimple.

No matter how much she examined herself she just couldn't possibly see the difference in 'child' Danica and 'adult' Danica.

From behind her, her bedroom door burst open allowing Amy and Heather her two best friends to come charging in. Amy had her long blonde hair up in a ponytail, her blue eyes bore pure excitement, as her lips curved into a smile. It seemed she didn't come to just hangout.

Beside her Heather's usual bored expression was in place, a total opposite to the overly excited Amy beside her.

Her hair that was currently blue had been freshly shaven on one side and the long portion that hung down on the other covered one brown eye from sight.

Why are you two here? Danica asked before her eyes zoned in on the makeup box that Amy clutched in her hand. No, She said holding up a hand. I agreed to the party, but I didn't agree to being your toy to play with makeup on.

Amy pouted her petite pink lips. You're the hostess of the evening! She whined. You have to stand out.

Danica could feel herself inwardly cringing. She absolutely hated dresses and makeup, finding them to just be a superficial hindrance that was too much to deal with.

Come on! Amy begged stepping forward. Just this once, please!

Danica looked to Heather who had sat on her bed and was now engrossed in her phone for help. Not even glancing to her Heather shrugged in a 'You're on your own' manner.

Traiter. Danica grumbled as Amy began making her way to her.

Heather chuckled, Amy will do what she wants no matter what.

Huffing Danica crossed her arms over her ample chest. Just this once. She conceeded. After this, never again.

Squealing Amy rushed forward grabbing ahold of Danica and sitting her down in a chair before swiveling her around so she couldn't see her reflection.

You aren't allowed to see until I'm finished. She clarified as Danica gave her a questioning look. I want this to be an absolute surprise.

The helpless Danica remained seated as Amy began her onslaught of makeup brushes and tools. Even though they were meant to beautify a woman, to Danica they seemed more like a means of torture.

When Amy finished with her face she moved onto Danica's wild curls determined to tame them, but from the sounds she was making it was easy to tell that she was on the losing side of the battle.

After what seemed like hours to Danica, Amy finally finished with her work. She wore a satisfied smile as she clapped her hands.

Now for the reveal. Beaming she swiveled Danica around so she could see her reflection.

The woman staring back at her was foreign to Danica. She looked sexy and dangerous all at the same time with hooded smoky golden eyes and thick black lashes. Her matte red lips sat open in a surprised 'o' as she stared back.

Even Danica's usually unruly curls were tamed and fanning her face in perfect ringlets. She had to admit Amy did a damn good job.

Well? Amy urged expectantly. Do you love it or do you love it?

Rolling her eyes Danica couldn't help but smile, I don't hate it. She admitted while still examining her reflection.

Clapping happily Amy jumped up and down, Now to get you dressed.

Settling on a pair of black leather pants and white t-shirt that Amy modified so it was more edgy, paired with a pair of black combat boots, and topped with a black leather jacket Danica headed out with her friends.

They arrived at a clearing at the edge of town just as the sun was beginning to set.

Tables for food and drinks were setup on one side. In the middle of the middle sat large pieces of wood ready to be set ablaze for a massive bonfire. Two large speakers were set to either side of the clearing to play music so the party goers could dance. Again Danica had to commend Amy on her handywork.

Danica spotted Chase and Greg Amy's two twin older brothers, busying themselves setting up a few kegs. Raising an eyebrow Danica turned her gaze to Amy's.

What? Amy asked simply. This is a party, of course alcohol has to be present.

What if the police end up showing? Danica asked worry flaring. We are underage you know.

You need to learn to relax girl. Amy huffed. We are celebrating all the way out here so there won't be any noise complaints.

Still not so sure Danica tried to calm herself as the first couple of party guests began to drift in.

Within an hour the party had begun to rage as many people Danica recognized but barely knew from school gathered in the clearing.

Danics's eyes scanned the troves of people who danced, ate, and got drunk feeling terribly out of her element.

She had never been the social butterfly instead enjoying her space and tranquility away from irritating social gatherings.

That was why she had been confused when Amy had insisted they should throw her a birthday party and invite all their classmates.

As she continued to take in her surroundings she heard the sound of a snapping twig from behind her.

Turning she squinted into the woods that lay along the edge of the clearing spotting what looked like red glowing eyes.

She couldn't quite explain it, but she didn't feel fear as she stared into the red glowing orbs, instead she felt curiosity, and then an indescribable need to move towards them.

Allowing her feet to begin moving she inched towards the forests edge as a large black figure began to form.

As she drew closer the figure that had taken shape to look like some strange animal had begun to back away as it purposely drew her further and further into the woods.

When Danica finally snapped from her trance she was standing a good three hundred feet in the woods and the creature that had been temptingly drawing her had disappeared from sight.

Shaking her head to clear it she looked around. Confusion as to why she was in the woods and no longer in the clearing where her so called birthday party was still going strong consumed her.

Turning to head back she heard movement just to her right. Shifting her gaze in its direction she once again found red eyes.

As she stood frozen they began to draw near allowing her to finally see the large black wolf that they belonged to.

She knew she should turn and run, that standing there like a sitting duck was a terrible idea, but she just couldn't will her legs to move.

With lightening quick speed the much too large wolf lunged forward mouth open wide ready to sink its razor sharp teeth into Danica's neck.

Closing her eyes Danica waited for the pain that was sure to come once the creatures mouth found her, but to her surprise it never came.

Opening one eye to see what was going on she found that she wasn't alone anymore. Standing in front of her was a large golden wolf.

Eyes widening she took in the scene in front of her as the two wolves locked in battle snarling and biting at each other. It didn't take long for the Golden wolf to overpower the black one.

Sinking it's teeth into the black wolves throat the Golden wolf jerked it's muzzle ripping the black wolfs throat open.

Once the golden wolf was sure that the black wolf was no longer a threat it turned its green gaze to Danica who had remained unmoving the entire time.

Realizing she was now the golden wolf's soul focus Danica began to slowly back away.

The sound of bones cracking filled the forests eery silence as what was once a wolf was beginning to contort into a humanoid creature.

Pinching herself Danica tried to wake from what had to be a dream as a naked man occupied where once stood a wolf. Not any man, but Mason Thompson, the neighborhood playboy.

He sniffed the air while examining the area to make sure there were no more threats before finally turning his attention to Danica.

I finally found you. He smiled as his golden eyes that had locked onto her face filled with joy and longing.

What... Danica tried only to find she was unable to come up with words.

Mason was coming closer to her. Reaching out a hand he attempted to touch her.

As his fingers grew near Danica's vision blurred and a white hot searing pain ripped through her skull. She could just barely make out Mason moving forward mouth moving to speak before her entire world turned black.

Chapter 2

Danica, a gentle voice reached to her through the darkness.

She felt like she was floating as the darkness continued to hold her. It was almost as if her body and conciousness were completely separate from one another.

Somehow she felt connected to the voice, not just on an emotional level, but on another level that was hard for Danica to quite fathom.

As she tried to determine just what that feeling was she could feel herself begin to fall. As she fell she felt her mind and body reconnecting once more, before finally becoming one entity.

Now she could understand why she had the feeling of floating. Two strong protective arms were carrying her.

Prying her eyes open she waited for her foggy vision to clear so she could see exactly who was holding her. She could make out the outline of a strong chiseled jaw with dark stubble peppering it, then full lips that sat in a frown, followed by high cheekbones that sat underneath blazing green eyes that held an air of determination, and above all that golden messy locks that stuck up in tufts around his perfect face.

Gasping Danica began to struggle as she determined that it was Mason Thompson that was carrying her.

Relax. His deep voice rumbled near Danica's ear. I'm not going to hurt you.

It wasn't fear of being hurt that surged through Danica. It was something so much more, it was an all consuming fire that scorched through her entire body from simply being touched by Mason. The feeling wasn't unpleasant, but it was something Danica couldn't understand and that not knowing terrified her.

PUT ME DOWN! She was becoming desperate to be released.

Frowning Mason stopped moving and gently placed Danica on her feet in front of him.

The fire that had been running through Danica ceased to exist leaving her feeling cold and hollow.

She tried to remember exactly what happened to lead to her being in Mason's arms to begin with.

She remembered being at the party being a wall flower. She remembered glowing red eyes watching her. She remembered a large black wolf snarling at her, then....

Y-you, She began pointing a shaking finger at Mason. YOU WERE A WOLF!

Danica had began backing away as she reeled wondering if what she saw was real or if she was going crazy.

Danica, calm down. Mason urged trying to come near her again.

STAY BACK! Danica shrieked as her foot caught a root making her stumble.

A strong arm wrapped around her to right her balance once more sending fire raging through her.

Don't touch me! She snapped jerking from his hold. What the hell are you?

She narrowed her gaze on Mason who now looked hurt. Calm down first.

How can I remain calm, I must be going crazy? Danica sputtered. You were a wolf! No, not a wolf, a werewolf! Her brows furrowed. But werewolves are just fictional creatures from books and movies.

Strong hands grabbed her shoulders, the fire from his touch permeated through her, forcing her to look to him once more.

Breath Danica. He urged, You aren't going crazy, and you weren't dreaming. This is all very real.

Feeling almost manic Danica locked her gaze with Mason's as she tried to claw her way back to sanity. Something about his deep green eyes soothed her as she stared unblinking into them.

Have you calmed down? Mason asked sounding hopeful.

I think so. Danica responded taking a deep breath and then releasing it.

Smiling Mason nodded. That's great.

Back to reality a sudden thought occurred for Danica. Mason, why are you concerning yourself with me?

Mason Thompson was three years older than Danica and an extreme playboy. He had been a senior when Danica was a freshmen in high school and anytime she would see him around the halls or on the quad he would be with a different girl.

Looking taken aback Mason frowned, Do you not feel it? He asked his expression turning to confusion.

Feel what? Danica asked now studying his face. What was she supposed to be feeling?

Was he referring to the pleasant fire she felt pulse through her everytime Mason touched her? Or the odd connection she felt to him when she looked into his eyes?

Frowning Mason touched Danica's cheek gingerly, the place he touched lit up in delight. I was wondering this when you were being attacked as well, but why didn't you change? Thinking on it he seemed to figure out the answer himself. You just turned eighteen.

Change? Danica asked, the mania she felt before was beginning to return again.

Woah there. Mason whose eyes had widened when he realized her thoughts were drifting once more placed his other hand Danica's other cheek.

The surge of fire beginning to race through her face from his touch grounded her once more.

Mason, her voice came out much too shaky. What's happening?

Mason smiled, how about we head back to that party of yours first. I'm sure your friends are worried about you.

Are you evading my question? Danica asked annoyance flaring. Don't you dare.

Mason's head tilted back as he let out a loud laugh. Don't worry, I'm not. I just think you should at least tell them goodnight before we go somewhere to talk.

Unable to focus due to the heat running through her from Mason's touch Danica found herself obediently nodding.

Satisfied Mason released his hold on her face allowing the cold empty feeling to fill her once more.

Whimpering she found herself reaching out a hand to grab hold of Mason's. A sigh escaped her lips as again the warmth seared through her.

Beside her Mason smiled from ear to ear showing his dazzlingly white teeth.

Hand in hand Danica and Mason began making their way through the woods together. Although the atmosphere should have been awkward given the fact they were basically strangers it was comfortable and almost easy being together, as if this was where they both belonged.

Mates. Mason murmured as if reading Danica's thoughts.

Turning her head Danica furrowed her brow, What did you say?

Mates. Mason repeated once more.

Stopping Danica to Mason now. What are you talking about?

I know you feel it. As if to show what he was referring to he lifted their entwined hands. The fire, the connection. He continued. You're my mate, my Luna.

Frowning Danica pulled her hand from Mason's allowing the empty coldness to consume her. This is all so much to take in.

Slowly. Mason said simply. I will explain everything to you slowly.

Nodding her head Danica began walking again, this time she didn't grab Mason's hand instead choosing to wrap her arms around herself.

When they found their way back into the clearing the party was in full swing. A large fire blazed in the center of the already drunk party goers lighting the sky with a red glow.

Shall we? Mason asked motioning towards the crowd.

I guess. Danica responded taking a deep breath.

Together they made their way into the crowd earning them odd stares as people took them in. Danica wasn't sure if it was due to the fact Mason was with her, or if it was due to the fact he wore nothing but sweatpants. Either way all the attention he was drawing towards her was making her extremely uncomfortable.

Excusing herself she rushed away to go find Amy or Heather.

She managed to find Amy first flirting with a guy Danica vaguely remembered named Donald beside the keg. Her face was flushed from one too many drinks and she had a case of the giggles as Donald whispered something in her ear.

Moving forward she grabbed Amy by her arm and smiled at Donald. Can I borrow her for a minute? She asked him sweetly.

I'll be right back. Amy assured him with a wink before allowing Danica to pull her away.

Once they were far enough away from others earshot Danica stopped and turned her attention to her drunken friend.

What's up? Amy asked squinting. You ok?"

Danica nodded, I'm fine, just not feeling too well. She lied. I think I'm going to go ahead and head home.

At her words Amy began to pout. But this party is for you.

Danica smiled as she stopped the laugh that threatened to escape. This party definitely had nothing to do with her, almost everyone that was there didn't even really know who she was.

I'm sure no one will miss me. Danica said instead smiling. I will call you tomorrow ok?

Amy opened her mouth to say something, but Danica had already begun to move.

All she could think was she needed to get home. She needed to get home and curl up in her bed.

Her home was dark when she arrived home. It seemed her adoptive mother had already headed to bed for the evening.

Thanking her lucky stars she began to make her way through the white gate that surrounded their home only to be stopped by a hand grabbing her wrist.

She didn't need to turn and see who it was due to the warmth she felt surging throughout her arm.

Why'd you leave all on your own? Mason's voice asked from behind her.

Did you follow me this whole time? She countered.

Of course I did, what if another rogue tried to hurt you? Mason responded.

Danica turned to look at him. Rogue?

Have you not been taught anything? He sounded truly baffled.

I truly have no idea about anything that you are saying. She started trying to keep calm. People shifting from wolf to human is something that should only exist in movies and books. As she said the words she even thought she was sounding crazier. I don't want any part of whatever world you live in. I'm just a normal person.

It was Mason's turn to look confused. Normal person? He said the word like he couldn't quite understand it. Danica Robinson, you are anything but a normal person.

Danica couldn't quite understand what Mason was getting at. How am I not normal? I'm a normal soon to be college freshmen, how am I any different from anyone else out there?

Mason furrowed his brows as he studied Danica's face as if looking for any sign that she was joking.

Are you not aware of it? He asked leaning closer.

Danica took an involuntary step backwards to create more distance between her and Mason. She knew if he touched her and that fire pulsed through her again she wouldn't be able to think straight.

Not aware of what? Danica asked crossing her arms across her chest. What am I supposed to be aware of?

Danica, you are a wolf just like me. Mason said fully closing the distance between them as Danica's back connected with the white gate behind her. How is it possible you aren't aware?

Eyes widening Danica shook her head in refusal. How could I possibly be a wolf? I don't shift during the full moon. She insisted a hysterical laugh escaping her once more.

We shift for the first time during the full moon after our eighteenth birthday. Mason explained placing his hands on the gate behind Danica so she was trapped in front of him. The next full moon is three days from now. That will be when your first change will be.

Completely losing all shreds of sanity Danica broke into hysterical laughter as Mason's words ripped her normal world into teeny tiny pieces.

Chapter 3

Danica lay in bed staring up at her roof as thoughts of the evening danced across her closed lids. Everytime she had begun to drift into sleep the terrifying black wolf with glowing red eyes and razor sharp white teeth would appear and shock her awake.

As she tried to sleep she allowed herself to drift back to her conversation with Mason before he had finally allowed her to escape into the comfort of her home.

He had said that she was a werewolf and she would be changing in three days time. The thought of it was absolutely absurd, but after seeing a wolf shift into a man nothing seemed impossible anymore.

Unable to sleep Danica sat up and pulled her laptop from her bedside table. Opening it she stared at the glowing screen in front of her before opening a search engine and typing in werewolf.

All the links that appeared for her were for horror movie based information and urban legends. Nothing remotely solid that could help her.

What did you expect idiot. She murmured slamming her computer shut and placing it back in its place on the bedside table beside her.

Flopping back down she ran a hand over her face trying to clear her thoughts.

She needed to stop thinking about it so she could get some sleep. Mason had already promised to visit her in the morning to explain everything to her before she had her first change.

Her first change, the hysteria she was desperately trying to keep at bay came bubbling up to the surface again as she began to consider her first 'change'.

Danica could feel her body beginning to shake uncontrollably as she allowed her fear to overtake her.

Many different scenerios played across her mind, each one much worse than the first, as she wondered just what it would feel like to shift.

Would it be painful? All she had to go off was what she saw in werewolf movies when the characters bones would begin to snap and contort, and the obvious pain they felt as their body's began to contort and change entirely before finally becoming a different species altogether.

Stomach suddenly turning Danica jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom making it just in time to heave up the entire contents of her stomach.

Huffing she allowed herself to collapse on the cold tile floor below her as she curled into a ball.

Finally exhausted she fell into a nightmare filled sleep.

Danica woke the next morning to the sound of her adoptive mother Martha tapping on the bathroom door.

Initially she was confused as to why she was even there, but soon images of the previous night came crashing in waves.

Danica. Martha called through the door drawing her attention away from inner struggle. Are you ok honey?

Sorry. Danica responded pushing herself off the floor. I'm coming.

Martha stood to the side as Danica exited the bathroom with embarassment. Her long grey hair was braided and twisted into a bun on the top of her head, her usual go to hairstyle. Her pale face that had begun to wrinkle held an air of concern as she examined Danica.

She cleared her throat before speaking, her dark brown eyes filled with knowing. I understand you girls celebrated last night, but if you're in this state then maybe you should learn some control.

Shocked Danica met Martha's eyes. Martha, I didn't drink. She assured her. I just didn't feel well last night.

Squinting Martha leaned forward and sniffed Danica, you don't smell of alcohol.

Smiling Danica nodded, I'm not lying to you I promise.

Martha stood clearly debating before finally smiling. Sorry I thought the worst. I'm just concerned about you.

To show her sincerity she pulled Danica into a hug before allowing her to head back to her room to change and get ready for her meeting with Mason.

Dressed in a pair of denim shorts and a black tank top Danica padded downstairs where she found Martha painting in front of their bay window. This was usually where she found her these days as she was on an art kick right now. She had insisted the window provided her with the perfect inspiration.

Her obsessions usually lasted for about a month at a time, this one had another week at least. Before this it had been scrapbooking. Her incomplete books still lay scattered around the house along with magazine and news clippings.

Greeting Martha with a quick kiss on the top of her head Danica hurried out the front door after slipping on her sandals and grabbing her bag.

Mason had already arrived and was waiting outside the gate when Danica exited the house. This morning he was fully clothed in Jean shorts and a black shirt. Taking in Danica he smirked.

We match. He noted causing Danica to blush a crimson red. You ready?

Nodding Danica took a calming breath before heading to where Mason remained waiting for her.

Let's go. She said passing him and beginning to make her way to his waiting black jeep.

Rushing forward Mason hurriedly opened Danica's door for her. Eyeing him suspiciously she got in and began buckling up as he shut the door and headed to the driver's side.

Danica kept her gaze fixed on Mason as he got in and pushed his key into the ignition.

What? He asked noticing her curious look. Is there something on my face?

For a playboy you're quite the gentleman. Danica spoke what was on her mind. She was after all known for not having a filter. No offense. She added quickly.

Frowning Mason met Danica's gaze. About that....

Danica held up a hand cutting him off. He had no obligation to explain anything to her and she knew it. What and who you do is none of my business.

She could see a hurt look cross Mason's face as the words left her mouth.

I can't change my past. He said now his frown deepening. I would hope my mate wouldn't judge me based on it.

Danica's heart clenched as Mason looked at her like a wounded puppy. She knew she shouldn't feel anything, but no matter how hard she tried she couldn't stop herself. There was an invisible draw there that she just couldn't resist.

The mate bond.

I'm sorry. She whispered looking down at her hands. I just don't really know you and what I do know of you isn't exactly good. She felt like a child admitting to their parent what they did wrong as Mason continued to stare at her. I am just kind of confused.

About what? Mason asked cocking his head to the side, the hurt expression in his eyes being replaced with a curious one.

Danica cleared her throat. If wolves have mates, and they mate for life.... She tried to grasp the right words. Then how were you able to be with so many women?

Beside her Mason couldn't stop the laugh that escaped him. "Just because each and every one of us has a mate
