Florine Young

Flo Young, a lifelong resident of Crystal Springs, MS; is one of eleven baby boomers born to Premer & Ruby Powell in Copiah County of MS.She grew up on a farm about five miles out of her little country town. She endured many of life's lessons as a child but persevered through most without a hitch. As a teenager, conventional as well as unconventional happenings, which could've left one bitter; she found through a born-again relationship with God; how to be better. She is presently married to husband, Burney Blanch of twenty-four years; they share a home on the eastern outskirts of Crystal Springs, MS. She has three mature children from a previous marriage, and five grandchildren, who have brought much enjoyment to this old soul. She's currently employed at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Jackson, MS. along with her very best friend and sister, Geneva Y. for the past twenty-seven years. When it comes to employment, her motto in life is this: having a job is only half the battle but serving God through serving others is all that really matters. This is Book II of her collection that bears the same name.It contains a variety of poetry, which explores different avenues from past experiences as well as modern day emotions that run concomitantly, in today's world.

    Mother’s Day

Mother’s day celebrates mothers at their best

With gratefulness, we realize how God has so blessed

Us with such a beautiful demonstration of his love

A perfected illustration from the heavens above

It is indeed an honor to be considered in such high regard

but yet, knowing that there’s none greater than our God

God made woman in such uniqueness and grace

Though time has brought about changes, they can never erase

That special something that within us God has placed

So if the word mother could be broken down to the nth degree

I believe you’ll find God in every part, let’s see

The M in mother signifies mercy under the worst possible condition

The O signifies obedience and her willingness in whatever position

To see good even if its amidst the stormy sea

In perfect serenity she knows that God will be

A warrior for her family on life’s battlefield

Therefore, T personifies her thoughtfulness in the performance of His will

The H takes on humility as she bows before the throne

Prayerfully entreating God in tears for strength to carry on

The E is the evidence of grace flowing from her heart

The satisfaction of peace when she’s done her
