    Author's note

Hello reader, welcome to the sixth instalment to The Sun, Moon, Sand, and Star series and my favourite of the books I have released so far. It has been a while between books since I included an author's note, and because I wish for you to have the best experience reading this particular story, I thought it imperative to include one here.

I wrote this book as a sequel to The Little Fairleaf, but it was formed around events that took place in another book, The Raven Heiress, book 4 of The Sun, Moon, Sand, and Star series.

So, my suggestion is that before you throw yourself into this book, you should first read The Raven Heiress, then The Little Fairleaf. If you do this, I promise The Other Fairleaf will be far more enjoyable and easier to follow.

    The choice is yours…

    Prologue

Because the day of the Karnaea was fast approaching, the time to leave the Inn and make for the Wonder of Alepion was upon the Fairleafs. It was why Asandla Fairleaf thought it typical when she awoke this morning to the sound of spitting rain and what she imagined were sharply edged winds sweeping in from the city’s northern expanse, dampening not only the streets but also her mood. Asandla was grateful, therefore, when she and her family came outside to find that the winds had calmed and that the rain was steadily receding. While they progressed over the city of Lowvilla's muddy streets, the midmorning clouds brightened, and the sun returned to lavish its rays upon the people who were now praising Adonai the Whispering God.

When the gates of the Wonder opened, Asandla and her family were in awe of the Many Steps rising before them, their heads lifting as the Steps scaled the palace, their eyes full of astonishment at how vast their journey to the top stretched. Since this was not the first ascent of the Fairleafs, Asandla could envision the top, her memory making clear to her the great and tall golden doors that they would eventually pass through, how those doors stood proud between thick golden columns. However, it would still be a long climb until then, so Asandla prepared herself for a laborious expedition, and she passed the time by enjoying her children's exuberance displayed in full.

Mother, you can see all of Lowvilla from here! exclaimed Mellia, her brown hair flicking with the turn of her head as she regarded her mother. She then again set her sights on the view of the capital, of its homes, its lake, and trees.

Including the inn we were staying at, Trone added, gesturing.

    Where!? Mellia wanted to know.

Trone stopped, pointed, and for a moment, the two children were left behind, squinting together at what Trone had claimed was the very rooftop of the Inn where the Fairleafs had spent the last five days biding their time. While Trone and Mellia occupied themselves with sightseeing, Asandla turned to her youngest and found him fretting beside his father. Eldrian was holding Donas's hand and just now looking like he was about to explode at any second.

I want to fly, Father! He said. I want to fly, I want to fly!

    Absolutely not, Donas responded, calmly.

    Why? I want to!

I'm sure you do, but you will not.

"But why? If Trone is allowed ——

There was a sound like a flash, and the next moment had all the Fairleafs raising their heads to see a green light above them, high in the sky. Then another green light was seen, this one higher and near the heights of the Wonder. Asandla looked away from her eldest son's teleporting and concentrated on Eldrian just in time to see him protest.

"You see, Father, look at Trone! If he can use power, why can't I?"

    Simply, because I said so.

Eldrian was not impressed, his father unperturbed, leaving Asandla anxious and wanting to ease her little one.

You have only just discovered this new ability, are not yet practised enough to take such risks. Look how high we are?

Asandla thought it an excellent explanation that could only serve to placate those daring impulses her six-year-old had. But to her dismay, it seemed the danger of taking flight in his newly-discovered form, while they were at least a hundred feet above the city, only flared up his urgent need to ignite power in his veins and follow after his brother.

Presently, Eldrian Fairleaf looked up at Donas and tugged at his arm, saying heartbreakingly softly, Please Father, I do know how to control my new ability, have enough endurance to keep me safe. I do oath to you that I will be careful.

But Donas remained indifferent to his son's appeal, replied, "Your request
