Chapter 1
M ARY WAS AN IMAGINATIVE AND creative girl. Very bright too, she could read anything and memorize it.
She could read a story and picture it in her head as if it were real life. Mary seemed to be doing that a lot lately since her parents were fighting much more these days. It appeared that the arguments were over the fact that her Dad lost his job and well her Mother couldn’t find one either. This caused a lot of tension in the house.
When she would hear them arguing she would go to her room and pull out a book to read and basically bury her head in it. Mary would then take ear plugs she had hidden in her pillow case and put those in. She could imagine herself actually being in the story; she would read and experience everything the characters did. This helped her to forget about all the problems at home. Mary couldn’t understand why her Mom and Dad just couldn’t get along not even to just spend time with her!
It was a cold rainy October night when her Mother broke the news to her that her parents were getting a divorce.
Unfortunately, a few days after that her Mother had to explain that it appeared that her Father had left to the store one day and never returned that night. Maybe with the stress of everything he decided he needed time to think.
Days went by and then months, the local police were still looking for her Father but Mary’s Mother thought something might have happened to him and decided they should move to another state so that Mary wouldn’t feel so depressed there. She was always looking out the window for her Dad. She wanted Mary to still have hope
