INTRODUCTION
Welcome back to my Blues Soloing for Guitar series. It’s awesome to have you here with me in Volume 2: Levelling Up!
You’re about to continue your journey towards becoming a great blues guitar player, as we take the blues essentials from Volume 1 and build on them. In the lessons that follow we’ll be examining:
The Minor Blues
Open String Scales and Soloing
Combining Major and Minor Scales and Sounds
‘Jump Blues’ and ‘Jazzy’ Blues Licks
Rapid Fire Repeating Blues Licks
And Much More...
As in Volume 1, I’ll give you the knowledge and understanding you need about each topic backed up with authentic blues examples based on the playing of your favourite blues artists.
Before we get into it, a few reminders about how to use this book.
HOW SHOULD YOU USE THIS BOOK?
You’re in a different place than when you picked up Blues Soloing for Guitar Volume 1. You’re familiar with the basic tools used in blues music, you have a solid grasp of essential techniques like bending and vibrato, and your soloing vocabulary should be developing nicely.
Even so, here are some reminders about how to use this book for even more great results.
1. Lesson Order
These lessons continue directly on from those found in Volume 1: Blues Basics.
Even though you’ve got some knowledge now, I still suggest going through these lessons in the order that they’re presented. If you really want to study them in a different order then you’ll be fine, just be aware that you may need to backtrack a little if I mention something covered in an earlier lesson.
2. Visit the Website for Video Demonstrations, Backing Tracks and More!
Don’t forget the website I’ve created to help you learn. There you can see me playing each solo and watch lessons and demonstrations of some of the things covered in this book series.
You can also grab audio recordings of me performing each solo as well as download the backing tracks to practice over.
Check it out at:
bluesguitarbook.com
3. Take It Steady...
The material in this book is more advanced than in Volume 1 and some of it may take a little longer to get under your fingers. Be patient and go through each lesson at a sensible pace so you can absorb everything it teaches you: remember, rushing won’t benefit you at all.
4. Study the Blues Power Moves (Important!)
You’ll find more Blues Power Moves at the end of each solo, use them! They will help you build your blues vocabulary even more. Take each Blues Power Move and experiment with it using the following approach:
