AN INTRODUCTION FROM THE AUTHOR
I’ve mentioned it before – but it does bear mentioning again: the book you’re about to read – and its predecessor, TALES OF THE PSYCHIATRIST – they were inspired, in part, by a difficult period in my life, one which goes back almost thirty years, in those pre-Internet and pre-Facebook days. It was a time in which both my life and sanity were on the verge of total collapse – and in the summer of 1991, it almost did. Not exactly a good situation for yours truly to be in at that time, whose biggest dream was to be a writer/author, inspired in no small measure by the accomplishments by two of my all-time favorite pop culture heroes, Alan Alda and the late Rod Serling.

Oddly enough, at that time, I was seeing a therapist concerning my mental state. (And today, I’m still seeing a therapist – though my mental health’s somewhat better than it was then, despite the significant number of emotional trials and growing pains that I had to endure during that particular time span.)
Of course, when I first wrote the stories about the psychiatrist almost thirty years ago, I never considered compiling them into a book and getting it published. For one thing, my life at that time was a bit chaotic – so much so that I thought that a permanent change of locale might do me a world of good, a decision that I now regret, mainly because I wasn’t thinking straight then. For another, I was obsessed with jump-starting my writing career, which was a factor in part to yours truly attempting to move out west to Southern California. (There were
