Leaders function through formal and informal Networking, Linkages, Partnerships, and Collaborations. Over the years I have maintained this relationship with several Friends and Acquaintances, Colleagues and Professional Leaders, Family Members and Relatives, and Mentors and Mentees. These lovely souls around the world offered inspiration, motivation, encouragement, support, love, and prayers which have continued to sustain me in the years of my sojourn so far on Plant Earth. The year 2020 was hit with the Corona Virus (Covid 19) Pandemic which was global. Mobility was reduced in many countries in the world, and I found myself not being able to travel in my very busy schedule as usual. The restrictions presented an opportunity for me to reflect on my understanding of Leaders and Leadership, having fulfilled both roles in many instances. Daily during the year, I posted Nuggets on my WhatsApp Status for those subscribed to it. The Nuggets were on Gumption, Knowledge, and Wisdom in Leadership for Aspiring and Established Leaders, Victors, Winners and Successful People. I received constructive criticisms and revised the Nuggets appropriately. I thank all my Friends, Colleagues, Family Members and Relatives, and Mentors and Mentees who daily visited my WhatsApp Status and made constructive suggestions which were taken into consideration in the development of the book.

Preface

I learnt very early in my Life Journey that the World needs Leaders who lead others, and Leaders who produce other Leaders to lead. During my several travels by Road, Water, Rail, and Air to many countries in Africa, North and South Americas, Asia, and Europe for Studies, Research, Working Visits, Conferences, Workshops, Meetings, and Vacations, I often encountered People who pose as Leaders but were Managers. It became clearer to me that there is a vacuum; and Nature abhors vacuum: Leaders are conspicuously absent. Universities and Allied Institutions are doing a fabulous job in training People into Leadership but rarely training People to become Leaders. This is partly because being a Leader is a Calling/Vocation to lead People.

The concept of being a Leader is not singularly defined. A Leader could be a Nation such as the USA being a Global Economic Leader; an Idea, Thought, Knowledge within a given Body or School, for instance kaolinite in its various applications as the Leader of Kaolin Minerals; an Agency, Institution such as the African Union as a Pan-African Political Leader; or a Person like Martin Luther King Jr as a Civil Rights and Equal Justice Leader. Most of the Knowledge, Skills, Wisdom, and Revelation to function as a Leader is acquired through inspiration, having the right People, yielding to correct time and timing, and generating the most appropriate resources for the Leadership Cause. Being a Leader has a lot to do with the Individual’s Commitment and Determination, Personal Experience and Undertakings, and Zeal and Zest.

Persons function in different categories as Leaders defined by the Leadership Style (an example is a Transformational Leader like Nelson Mandela), or the Leadership Cause (a case in point is being an Aviation Pioneering Leader like the Wright Brothers - Orville and Wilbur). This book concentrates on a Person as a Leader leading People, Places and Things; though occasionally some references are made to a Leader as a Nation, Idea/Thought/Knowledge, or an Agency/Institution. The book is divided into 12 sections covering the 12 months of the year, and a bonus section. In each section, it has the number of daily nuggets corresponding to the number of days for the specific month. It is believed that the Reader (who already sees himself/herself as an Emerging or Established Leader) will find Gumption, Knowledge, and Wisdom in Leadership for Every Leadership Enterprise and Leadership Undertakings Everywhere Every time leading to Glaring Victory and Complete Success.

Chapter One

January

1st January – Carved for Excellence

You were not carved for Mediocrity but Excellence. It is therefore your duty, responsibility, and obligation to operate and live in Excellence. Give no room for lower Standards. Be the Cream of the Crop that you are. Never settle for Second Best, as People generally say. Second Best robs you of the Excellence you are carved for. Rise out of any slumber you find yourself in and move to the top no matter the obstacles…so be it!

2nd January – Unique Mission

Every person has a Unique Mission to perform while on earth, which no other person should do; and Age is never a barrier. Compare Not Yourself with another person whose mission is different. All Resources to accomplish Your Unique Mission is at your disposal. In accomplishing this Mission, first Know the Mission by aligning Resources to the Type and Purpose of the Unique Mission. Second, you must Stay the Course, no matter the challenges. Third, let the Unique Mission accomplishment reflect itself wherever, whenever, and however it chooses to do so.

3rd January – Communication is Key

Communication is key to building Successful Relationships. Proper communication entails understanding the message being communicated. It initiates, upholds, and sustains Relationships. No matter your status, be the initiator of proper and healthy communication. At the Rivonia Trial, Nelson Mandela made it clear that he was prepared to die for the Cause. Wishing you the best in your personal communication strategy.

4th January – Maintaining Positivism in Communication

When you communicate use Positive and not Negative Words; use Clean and not Dirty Words; use Pure and not Filthy Words; use Encouraging and not Discouraging Words; use Shining and not Dull Words; use Words that Build and not Words that Destroy. When you do this, you will be building Rich and Healthy Relationships.

5th January – Expressing Gratitude

Expressing Gratitude to People who assist us realise our Potential and live our Dreams makes them feel better and willingly kind-hearted to assist others. No one is above the Law of Expressing Gratitude. When you express gratitude to people for their assistance to you, other people will express gratitude to you for your services to them. Remember to say Thank You…I am grateful…Without your support I would not have…etc…Practice the Law of Expressing Gratitude and you would reap its fruits….so be it.

6th January – Distractions, Distractions, and Distractions

Distractions come in different Shapes, Shades, Languages, and Places; from different People, Time, and Thinking. Most Distractions come when you have a particularly important Activity, Assignment, Project, or Work to execute. The Distraction is to hinder you not to carry out the Task at the right time in the right place with the right resources. Therefore, be very vigilant to discern Distractions and soldier on with the Task without Procrastination; and both Victory and Success will be yours. So be it.

7th January – The Strength of Retraction

One should retract words, inappropriate advice, poorly conceived statements, and decisions that could be hurting and unintentionally malicious. Everyone is inadvertently prone to doing something wrong. When the wrong is done, pull back, retract with honour and dignity. There will be healing, peace, and progress. Retraction is more rewarding in sustaining relationships. Whenever the opportunity presents itself, please do so with wisdom and you will enjoy the fruits of Retraction. Great minds have the will to do so. Be known among Great Minds.

8th January – Give No Room to Cruelty

There are many cruel People in the World, and you come across them every day. Cruel people are wicked, brutal, barbaric, inhuman, brutish, and evil. Their wickedness may drive you to become cruel. But Give No Room to Cruelty. You are created to live far above cruelty; to be Kind, Gentle, Forgiving, Benevolent, Decent, and Noble. Follow and live the Noble Way with Dignity; and the Comfort and Satisfaction of Noblesse Oblige will surround you. You can, therefore live above Cruelty.

9th January – Bubbling from Within

Inside you are clean and dirty bubbles. Decide which bubbles to breed and brew. Do not allow dirty bubbles to have root in you and contaminate clean bubbles. Grow clean bubbles, maturing with exuberance for the benefit of YOU (You, Others, Universe). From within you, bubbling clean are bubbles of Happiness, Joy, Knowledge, Peace, Intelligence, Kindness, Gentleness, Forgiveness, Patience, Faith, Cleanliness, Victory, Success, Riches, Health, Wealth, Friendship, Wisdom, and Love. Let the brightness and sound of clean bubbles in you manifest for all to profit therein, and so should it be.
