Hayley hefted her suitcase onto the rickety front porch of her father’s ranch house and climbed up after it. She paused for a moment and glanced around at the dilapidated house with its loose shutters and peeling paint. She hadn’t been home in years and wasn’t expecting the house to be in such disrepair. She pulled open the screen door, half expecting it to fall off of its hinges as it creaked and groaned.
