Chapter 1

Fran leaned into Dex’s shoulder breathing in the scent of his cologne to comfort her. The elevator glided down, not stopping as it continued to the bottom of the casino he had once owned. He’d just lost everything in a poker game. It was the hotel casino she’d met him in and he’d given her the culmination of a lifetime goal. It was only a magic show assistant, but it worked for her dream to be on a Vegas stage. But they were going to need more than magic now. They were going to need a miracle to get out of what had happened. He was no longer the owner of the hotel. No more suite. No more late night intimate meetings. No more high life. It was all gone. A tear escaped down her cheek before Fran could stop it.

Dex noticed, raising her head to look at him. He wiped it away. Stop that. I’ll get it back. Whether I win it back from him, or figure another way. I’ll get it back. She closed her eyes and breathed. He tapped under her chin. You hear me?

Fran shook her head in agreement. She wanted it to be real again. She’d agree with anything as long as she could still stay with him. She was all in with Dex now. She’d fallen for a gambler, and was willing to take the chance that they could get through this, together.

She opened her eyes, breathing deep, the emotions settling inside her. You’re right. We’ll get through this, together.
