It details his experiences as a Secret Service agent from 1958 until his retirement in 1975. Following the election of John F. Kennedy in 1960, Hill was assigned to protect Jacqueline Kennedy, the first lady. This seemed like a demotion. Hill was disappointed at first, but he grew to have a good relationship with the first lady. He was on hand when she gave birth to two of her children, one of whom, Patrick, died shortly after
