Dr. Shirley Ann Moore

The overachiever with an amazing career that fits her lifestyle perfectly—this best describes Dr. Shirley Ann Moore. Dr. Ann has worked hard to earn her position, and she credits her love for the Lord Jesus Christ for making it all possible. Her career working as an adjunct college professor began in 2014, but her bookkeeping history began many years earlier, pre–computer days. After several years instructing in the classroom and online classes, she discovered a lack in technology applications used in the profession were not covered in detail in the textbooks. She worried her students would leave college with the notion that manual entries were the way to process daily business transactions. A study was needed to address the issue, and Dr. Moore dedicated the next four years working on a qualitative comparative case study to determine the computerized life application in accounting to higher-education manual approaches. The focus in the classroom shifted to preparing students for computerized applications backed up with the manual processes. Classroom textbooks are slowly catching up with her study. Her work was conclusive, and the study was published in 2018. Dr. Moore was awarded as Doctor of Management and Organizational Leadership in 2019. Today, she continues to prepare tomorrow’s leaders in business and accountancy as an adjunct college professor at Georgia Military College. She also owns a thriving business working for small businesses and taxation at Lake Oconee, Greensboro, Georgia. Dr. Moore maintains a blog in business and higher education on her website, and she sets her own pace as a scholar, practitioner, and leader in the profession of accounting and higher education. God has richly blessed her with her loving husband, Marty. With his support and encouragement, her career allows her the time for their parents, children, grandchildren, church, and friends. This enables her to never work a day in her life while working hard doing what she loves. Her small business practice, the study of biblical archology, ancient texts, and hard-to-find information are her most enjoyable hobbies. Preparing tomorrow’s leaders in business and accounting are the things she is most passionate about. INTRODUCTION

Our ministry as Christians is to prioritize and share the good news of God’s Son, Jesus Christ. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). One way we can spread the gospel of Jesus is by how we conduct ourselves professionally. I can think of nothing better than living the love of Jesus in all areas of our lives. Jesus is demonstrated by how we conduct our business, amplified by our willingness to establish our work as a ministry for Christ. Without shame or fear of the hundreds of fingers pointing back at us, we seek God’s truth daily, not just at appointed worship services. This book assists the reader in the desire to bring their professional decisions as close as possible through study, prayer, and dedication to parallel God’s Word. So, we may walk through this life as God would have us walk; we can show the application of His Word in our professional lives in ways that truly show our love of Jesus and others. After all, God’s Word for Bible-believing Christians is the primary source for all of life’s questions, and it begins with love. God’s abundant knowledge is available to understand and apply as the absolute authority for our financial, business, and personal decisions; we need to learn to seek God’s Word first. I offer the scriptures under various headings as a beginning for learning how we can identify our ministry witness for living Jesus Christ in our lives. There is no greater power than He who laid the foundation of the world to provide the beacon of light in our search for financial guidance.

    CHAPTER

    STEWARDSHIP

W here money issues are concerned, the Lord is often forgotten; likewise, most Christians prefer to avoid the topic. This book was written to provide an understanding of the ancient biblical facts that are just as pertinent today as in the old days concerning finances and how we operate our businesses. Our household finances have become as complex as daily business operations, often requiring much time and effort. Therefore, it is important to include personal applications along with business approaches in this writing. This scriptural research of life’s financial issues is dedicated to the many women business owners; those running household finances and caring for children, aging parents, or other relatives; those juggling it all; and the men who love us. It is hard to think of meeting our basic survival needs as treasures, given today’s prices, primarily because it has become an ever-increasing challenge to meet those needs—food, clothing, housing, and so on. Our real rewards are in heaven, so let’s keep that in mind as we read through the biblical accounts of monetary questions handled from the spiritual perspective. This writing is not a prosperity message of righteous deeds earning favor and blessings from God! Prosperity messages often distort God’s desire for us to love Him; we cannot purchase God’s love, and He will not force His love on us. Moreover, those sending such messages of prosperity Christianity often seek personal financial gain for themselves, with no intention of glorifying the Lord. This writing is much more about finding the honorable source of business operations, what works, and how to apply the biblical truths to our finances, businesses, and personal lives. Even through our business transactions, can we share the love of Jesus with others. To those whom much is given, much is required, and our storehouses are full.

It is essential to emphasize the importance of adhering to these biblical warnings foremost. While there are more warnings regarding misrepresenting God’s Word, these are priorities for this work. Second Peter 1:20 warns of attempting to present private interpretations of scriptures, Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. We are also warned in scripture not to add or take away from the words of the Lord. Proverbs 30:5–6 says, Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reproves thee, and thou be found a liar. Revelation 22:18–19 says, For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, if any man adds unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book. And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Consequently, included are the definitions and numerical meanings to stay as close as possible to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. By no means is this a journey into numerology. The numeric values along the way offer emphasis, including the sources for those applications. After all,
