The poems in this book are written in a variety of forms. I would say that my favorite rhyming form is the Italian sonnet, but non-rhyming free verse is another favorite of mine. I have studied form poetry, and poetry in general. My inspirations are Whitman, Poe, Shakespeare, Emerson, and Frost. Each poem has a little blurb on its opposite page explaining its meaning, the nature of its form, and in some cases the inspiration behind it. Some also extend across more than one page. You do not need to read the blurbs to enjoy the poetry, although you may learn something about the older types of poems. I try to match subject to form as much as I can; so the limerick is meant to be funny, the sonnets are generally not, and the free verse poems have a more modern tone to them. I write in all modes and all moods, so this book is going to be a roller coaster ride. You have been warned. Enjoy!
