A Serious Girl. A Lovable Larrikin. Trapped on an Australian Island. Will Opposites Attract?

Fiona is an adventurous, small-town girl, who always dreamed of going on the kind of adventure that only exists in movies.  When her parents want a family vacation on a heat drenched island on Australia's Barrier Reef, she jumps at the chance.

However things don't exactly go to plan and everything starts to go wrong for her, when she meets a tanned alluring stranger. She's annoyed by his domineering behaviour and how he keeps telling her what to do. But when disaster eventually strikes she is helpless, and it seems that he's the only one who can help her.

She's a bumbling mess, getting into trouble at every turn and in need of rescuing constantly.

He's a capable, alpha male. A protector, a rescuer, frustrated by the antics of a beautiful tourist.

    Chapter one

    Alan

Istared from the flat of my back up into the tree tops far above. The rain was incessant and dropped through the leafy canopy to land on my already soaked face. I blinked the water out of my eyes and lifted my muddy arms to check the time. 0300 hours on the dot.

Time to switch. Samuels you're up. Samuels let out a sigh as he rolled over beside me, taking Williams’ place while adjusting his night vision goggles, and settled in against the mossy log that we'd been holed up in for the past six days.

Williams slid down beside me, yawning silently. I'd known Joe Williams for over 10 years since we trained together for the special forces unit. Jack Walker had been there as well, and we had managed to stay together as a unit ever since and had become like brothers.

Mate this inaction is killing me. Why are we doing recon again?

I gave an amused snort, Because we're paid too.

Williams chuckled, That we are. Williams reached into his top pocket and brought out the small crumpled plastic bag that held a photo of Melanie and him. I'd seen the photo a hundred times since we'd been here.

Things are getting serious with this bird I take it?

Yeh, I guess you could say that. I can't stop thinking about her man. Williams ran a thumb over the image, smiling dearly at it. I can't wait to get out of this jungle and spend the Christmas holidays with her. He gave the photo a quick kiss, settled back in the mud and looked over at me. How about you Evans? Got plans to find that special someone?

I haven't managed to walk into her yet. Who knows, maybe she'll walk out of one of these makeshift jungle cabins and sweep me off my feet. I joked.

Oh, ay she will, right off your feet with a bullet to your heart. Williams smirked.

I chuckled, Yeh, well, as they say.... love hurts man, love hurts.

Samuels suppressed a laugh, not taking his eyes from the camp. True, so true, sir. Mason Samuels was the newest member to our team, having only joined two years prior. He'd transferred from his unit in New Zealand to put his advanced skills to good use in our team. We were glad to have him.

Williams scoffed, No seriously man. You should find someone. You need that balance in your life. Someone who can provide a light at the end of the darkest tunnel. Our job isn't always glitz and glamour, and someone to look forward too can make all the difference, he looked at me seriously. Trust me Evans, I know and now Walker knows. I mean look, he's not even here.

He's a smitten kitten. Samuels agreed.

I laughed, they were right about one thing. Jack sure was smitten. Ever since he met Ciara last holidays, he'd been absent for half the missions. Currently he was somewhere in New York, preparing for the festive season with Ciara and meeting the folks for the first time. With him gone, as 2IC of our special forces unit, I'd had to step up and command in his absence.

Seriously though Evans. You've been working non-stop all year. When are you gonna have some down-time? He lifted his head off our makeshift moss pillows and stared at me.

Awww, I didn't know you cared Williams. Come ere big fella. I slung an arm around his neck in a play hug, grinning, but he just looked back at me seriously. Oh, come on. What can I say? We're trained not to burn-out and so I won't. I paused, laying back down, "Besides, if I go on holiday, and with Jack still off playing Mr. America, it means you'll have to step up to command and then you won’t get to see your precious Melanie."

I looked over at Williams who clearly hadn't thought of the ramifications of what he was saying. He slowly settled back onto the moss and play punched me hard in the shoulder. Keep up the good work Evans. As you were!

Samuels stifled a laugh, shaking his head.

Besides, I continued, We have three weeks off coming up. That is more than enough down-time for me. I rolled my eyes, thinking of the three weeks coming up over Christmas that I usually spent at my family's resort, helping out with the extracurricular activities. Although I didn't mind, the lifestyle was not for me. I'd much prefer to be in the action, no matter what that looked like.

Williams is right you know. Samuels said, interrupting my thoughts. You work way too much, and you've changed this past year. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather you as Commander over Williams any day, but you've lost your funny spark. You’ve been a bit broken lately. Samuels let out a fake groan as Williams elbowed him in the
