    HER MYSTERY BIKER

PROLOGUE – SIX MONTHS ago – Flick

I stagger off the dancefloor, wondering if I’ve maybe gone a little too far in my enjoyment of what promises to be my last night out in a while. I don’t consider myself unfit—twelve hour shifts in the ER require a certain level of fitness—but throwing shapes for an hour straight is a different bag of saline altogether.

Star passes me my drink, one eyebrow raised. Are you trying to make a point or has it really been that long since you went out dancing? I knew I should have dragged you out sooner.

I gulp down my water, then choke as it turns out to be vodka. I glare at her and she just smirks back. Great. Good thing I’m off tomorrow. I have a fighting chance at being sober by the time I’m back on shift the day after.

Are you trying to kill me? I gasp. Vodka is not rehydrating.

Star’s real name is Stella, but Star fits her much better, except when she’s trying to get me drunk.

I’m trying to get you to slow down a little. Fitting a year’s worth of dancefloor exploits into one night is a tall order.

    Like you can talk.

She angles her head to acknowledge my point, then lifts her glass and clinks it against mine. The MBA and the MD, taking one of very few opportunities to have some kind of life. We both just completed our final exams and we know we aced our courses. Problem is, I live in the Midwest, and she lives on the East Coast. We’re not going to get another chance to hang out like this for a while.

I sigh, then lift my head and glare at her again. Now I’m thinking, and it’s all your fault.

Her lips curve in a rueful smile. I’m gonna miss you too.

I shake my head at her. No. Nope. We’re not doing this. Not tonight. Tonight is about enjoying hanging out with my bestie and dancing until we can’t walk. I down the rest of my drink, slam the glass down on the table, and stand up. Come on. Let’s go.

She stands up, then her gaze lifts to something over my shoulder and her eyes widen. I turn around, because Star is pretty damn unflappable. Anything that can make her look like that has to be seen to be—oh.

    Wow.

That’s the only word I can think of to describe what’s heading towards me. Tall, built, intense… they all cover one aspect of it, but if I had to pick one word to cover the whole package, it would have to be ‘wow’.

He stops in front of me, and I have to tip my head back to meet his eyes. I’m vaguely aware of dirty blond hair but what really holds my focus is his deep, glittering eyes, completely focused on me. Heat pools between my thighs at the intensity of his gaze, and I squirm a little. Something flickers in his gaze, heat and light, and I can’t tell if he’s laughing at me or turned on.

    Maybe both?

Nah. I’ve got the kind of physique that men tend to overlook, especially men like this. As his head lowers towards me, however, I start wondering if that’s entirely true, because I do not feel overlooked right now.

Dance with me? he says, holding out his hand, his voice low and rough against my ear. My panties are already damp, just from three words, and I don’t even think before putting my hand in his. Then I have an attack of reason and look over my shoulder.

Star just nods at me and makes shooing motions. I smile and turn back to the stranger now walking backwards, leading me to the dancefloor without taking his eyes off me. And as he pulls me close, hands drifting over my hips, my waist, running up and down my spine, the world fades away until it’s just the two of us. Moving together on the dancefloor, in the flickering lights, the only people in the universe.

He pulls me close, his body fitting against mine, all hard planes against my soft curves, and suddenly I’m feeling things I’ve never felt in my life.

Don’t get me wrong, and try not to judge. I’ve been attracted to hot guys in the past. I mean, I do have a pulse. Never like this, though. I’ve never felt the urge to drag a guy into the nearest dark corner and climb him like a tree. As a medical student, I haven’t had time to really explore things like guys and relationships and, (this is the ‘don’t judge me’ part) sex.

I’m a highly educated virgin, but damn if this guy doesn’t make me want to change that. Not that I’m necessarily going to get the chance. I mean, we’re just dancing, right?

His head drops down next to mine, his breath tickling my ear. Come home with me?

    Or not.

I want to say yes. Oh goddamn, do I want to say yes. But I like to think I’m not a completely selfish bitch. I turn my head so that I can murmur in his ear. I’m here with my friend.

Hmmm. I’m not really into threesomes.

I pull back and punch him in the shoulder and his teeth gleam in the lights as he grins at me. I gaze up at him, feeling like a terrible person for even considering ditching my best friend to go home with a stranger.

It’s okay, he says, leaning in close once more. I get it.

He nudges me off the dancefloor, back towards my table, but when I turn to look at Star, I can’t see her. There’s a napkin on the table, though, and as I pick it up, my phone vibrates against my hip. I lift the napkin as I pull my phone out of my pocket. A quick glance at the screen has me answering the call.

    Where are you?

Star’s laughter echoes down the line. I’m fine, almost home. In fact, right here, thanks. I’m here. So you can go off with the super sexy stranger and have hot sex, for once in your pathetic life.

    Hey! My life isn’t pathetic.

    Your sex life is.

I roll my eyes and read the note. He’s hot. Do the thing. Do the thing? I ask her out loud.

She laughs again. Yeah, and I took a photo of him while he was undressing you with his eyes, so if you disappear, his face will all over every kind of media there is by noon tomorrow. Make sure you tell him that. Have fun. Use condoms. Bye!

She hangs up and I stare at my phone, shaking my head. She’s just as much a virgin as I am. I’d have thought she’d want to find her own hottie to play with, but evidently not.

    Weirdo.

I smile and turn to my own hottie, passing on what she told me. His grin lights up the room and my mind goes blank.

I wouldn’t expect anything less from a good friend. His eyes sharpen on my face. We don’t have to do this, you know. We can stay here. Dance. Have a drink. Or I can leave you alone.

Something flickers in his eyes and I get the feeling he really doesn’t want to leave me alone, or do any of the other things he just mentioned, but he would. If I wanted to.

That’s enough to decide me. I just completed my medical studies and my time is now scheduled out for the next three years, through residencies and the extra training I need to become a surgeon.  Who knows when I’ll get a chance to have sex again, let alone with someone this hot, and who seems to care what I want this much?

    He’s a unicorn. He’s
