About the Authors
Introduction
Terry’s perspective
From an early age I sensed I was different. I knew things others did not. I saw, heard, and felt things that my family or friends scoffed at. Often, I was bombarded with information or feelings that overwhelmed and sometimes hurt me. Consequently, I was labeled as weird
, told that these things were all my imagination, and that I needed to not share these things in order to fit in. I found myself alone frequently, unheard, shunned, and scoffed at. I was often the butt of jokes at school, although the other students wouldn’t hesitate to ask me to guess
things about them, or what would happen today, tomorrow, or next week, and then freak out when I actually knew. It made for a lonely childhood, with just a few select friends who seemed to understand me. And I am betting, dear reader, that this seems all too familiar to you. Which is why you picked up this book.
As I grew up, I began to explore this knowing. I began to learn about being an empath, a Clairvoyant, an Intuitive. Still, I kept this mostly to myself, holding my abilities close to the vest so as not to mess with the status quo. It wasn’t until I began dating my husband that I began to explore myself, my abilities, in earnest. I had found my person, the one who, while he may not have understood my abilities, wholeheartedly believed, and stood by me. This pivotal moment is when I began to truly blossom and grow.
My intuitive and psychic abilities began to manifest in new and different ways. I began my studies into witchcraft, the Tarot, and other methods of divination and psychic work. I went back to school and received by Bachelor of Science in Natural Health, concentrating in Herbalism. I began to integrate my empathic and intuitive abilities into my work as an Herbalist and a witch. Soon, I was teaching others how to open their intuition, to embrace their empathic abilities while shielding themselves from some of the unforeseen effects that can occur. I began reading Tarot professionally, using an intuitive approach. Now here I am 20-plus years later, still learning and growing–a life-long process I relish.
When approached to co-author a book on intuitive development from the empath’s perspective, I was thrilled. There are so many people out there struggling with not only their intuitive development, but in accepting that yes, they are psychic. We all have psychic abilities to some extent and this book is designed to show the first steps in realizing the potential of those abilities. Through our shared experiences, stories, exercises, and guided meditation, we will walk you along the path of intuitive development. We will help you to answer some of the most commonly asked questions such as What are some of the best ways to use your intuition?
and "What IS intuitive development? So come, journey with us through this book and explore your own
knowing".
Patti’s perspective
As a child and youngster, I was often confused by feelings and thoughts I had that seemed to appear out of nowhere. At times, I knew
what people were thinking or feeling without them communicating this information. It emerged from them like waves of energy, which I seemed to register and at times perceived as my own. On occasion it was frightening and disorienting. I cried easily, and I was hypersensitive to criticism and discipline. It was not until I was an adult that I realized not everyone shared this experience. As an adult I was introduced to a spiritual secret: everyone is psychic to one extent or another. This revelation was liberating and shocking at the same time. It was liberating because I discovered that I was not alone in my ability. It was a shock because I realized that the person who had revealed this knowledge to me had used her empathic ability to spy
on my thoughts and emotions and had used that knowledge to manipulate me. After years of work on myself and psychological study, I learned that this type of espionage is not only unethical, but narcissistic. The only proper way to use one’s empathic talent is to serve humanity and to make personal decisions that lead to living one’s most authentic life. As a counselor, I often use my empathic ability to intuit emotions that my clients are feeling and are having a difficult time expressing.
The development of intuition requires a measure of empathic ability. This book is meant to provide the first steps to development, and to answer some questions that have been asked about expanding and using intuition. Since everyone has this ability to some degree, it is possible for everyone to develop their intuition. As the co-author of this book, I will be sharing my own methods of expanding intuition through regular meditation and the intentional use and evaluation of the success of this intuitive wisdom.
I have studied empathic ability and intuitive development personally and professionally for forty years. I possess a graduate degree in transpersonal (spiritual) psychology and certification in spiritual guidance mentoring and integrated imagery hypnosis. I have taught meditation and intuitive and psychic development for the last fifteen years. My greatest passion is to encourage others to expand their intuitive abilities in the service of others and to use intuition to progress in the direction of their most authentic lives.
Many potential readers will ask: "Why should I develop my intuition? Shouldn’t I use my analytical abilities
