    Dedicated to my Parents

    Preface

You may wonder why I write this preface. Everybody knows that author is not the right person to write preface for his book. But my experience is different. I sincerely think I am the best person to write the preface for my book MAN WITH a GOLDEN HEART as only I know what made me write. This is something like an autobiographical poetry with some prose.

It is very important that these poems are published. They have relieved me from the pains and tensions I felt in my life. Here I share my feelings with others.

My past torments me. The only way to forget it is to write this down. Most of it I wrote this when my health was poor and I thought I had no future, the rest after I picked up my health and came into main stream. The best or worst of a person comes out when he is suffering the most. Originally I selected the title The Man Who Cries Blood, but later I thought the title was too pathetic. In this beautiful creation of God, I see only suffering. Every one of us has to possess a golden heart to bear this suffering. I feel suffering is the only way to reach God. God is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent. God makes his presence felt by making his children experience suffering.

Writer Shelly says that our sweetest songs of life come from saddest thoughts. In this revised republication of my book MAN WITH a GOLDEN HEART, I added many verses and thoughts which reflect my life and my feelings and reflections towards the world around us and the one above us. I thank Late Mr. D. Surynarayana Murthy for typing the Mss.

    O my Lord

    You give this body

    You give this life

    You give health and wealth

    You give power and prestige

    I take them with gratitude

You take them back in the march of time

    Why this illusion?

    What for?

You create an illusion of reality

    In this unreal existence.

    *

    Human bondages are so tight

    Human values are so lacking

    External pleasures are so tempting

Struggle for existence is so difficult

    Selfishness is so vital

    Oh my Lord

    How can this body

    Possibly do

What it is really supposed to do?

    Tell me, my Lord

    *

    I have an ugly body

It doesn’t bother me, my Lord

What bothers me is my ugly heart and ugly mind

Oh good, great, and merciful maker

Give me a heart that knows nothing but love

Give me a mind that thinks of nothing but thee

    *

    My heart ached with pain

    When I saw those bullocks

I could see the painful tears in their eyes

Tired carrying the weight of the cart all their lives

Moving their heads this way and that way

Trying to ease the pain in their sore necks

Bending their legs to get some temporary comfort

Looking for grass with their hungry eyes

Have not taken a single minute’s rest

Tied to the cart from birth to death

If they refuse to pull the cart

    Get beaten with whips

Until blood flows from their bodies

Those helpless animals cannot even tell

    About their suffering

    They are born dumb

Looking at their masters for mercy

Stone-hearted masters forget that they were

Created by the same God that created them

Those poor animals used like slaves

    Born unknown, dying unknown

Not even a word of praise for the service they do

If creation of the Lord is meant to be so partial

What about us humans created by the same God

How can you expect good judgement from
