    Introduction

Hello everyone! I’m Liz Lajoie and this is Zen Money: Building Financial Clarity, a course from Scribd. Thanks for joining me today.

For the past twenty years I’ve been involved in business management and have come into contact with numerous entrepreneurs and small business owners. A commonality I’ve found among them is their lack of a clear strategy to take them to that level of success they want to achieve. They know what their end goal is but have not laid out a step-by-step plan to get there, something I find very interesting.

Now don’t get me wrong, they all have great ideas and dreams of making it big. They have their next project lined up and are eventually seeking to become a ten million dollar business. But they have not set financial goals that will help them get there.

There is a load of work involved in attaining that level of success, but I found many of my clients only focused on the money. Their books would be in order, and we’d meet regularly to discuss a number of topics. But the one they avoided most was the one around their relationships and habits with money.

These clients had clarity when it came to their dreams and goals but weren’t completely clear or specific on what those goals were. For instance, when it came to financial planning for the next quarter, these clients had no particular goals set. Did they want to see a ten percent increase over last year’s profits, and if so, how would they reach it? Of course, like any business owner they wanted to double their revenue, but they didn’t want to do the work of digging into the numbers to get there.

That’s what led me to developing this course which is designed as a guide to teach you the importance of gaining clarity on your financial goals, how to do it, and what to do from there. Based on concepts from my second book, The Zen Money Map: Charge Your Worth, Pay Yourself First, and Fund Your Wildest Dreams, this
