About this ebook

A spicy hot Van Helsing sister adventure, featuring fire witch Morgan Van Helsing, the wicked sister.

I hunt monsters alone. It's my thing. Strong, silent, and self-sufficient.

Except that one time when I partnered with ice witch Aiden.

I never should have agreed to help him, because now he thinks I'm his go-to backup gal.

Spoiler: I'm no one's second-in-command. I'm the bitch running the show.

Once we get that cleared up, I agree to partner with him on his Scottish yeti case.

But this is the last time.

Seriously.

Note from the author: This urban fantasy romance contains steamy, sexy shenanigans, enough naughty words to make someone (not me) blush, a solitary monster hunter who's learning to play nice with others…slowly, and an ice witch with the hots for his partner.

    Wicked Fire - Gemma Cates

N ot my territory. Not interested. I was tempted to singe the hair off Aiden’s eyebrows, but he was lounging on my couch. All six feet and five inches of him, the bastard.

I liked that couch, and it wasn’t fire resistant, which was why I used my words to turn down his offer instead.

Unlike the last time I’d discovered him in my apartment, he hadn’t conned his way in via a departing overnight guest. This time, I came home to find him waiting.

    With a partnership opportunity.

He should be happy I didn’t shoot first and then ask him why he was here as he bled out. Too much mess. Good thing for him I kind of liked the area rug that covered the hardwood in my living room. And there was the sofa. Wasn’t much to look at, but it was comfortable.

Breaking into my place and—I glanced at the chips and beer on the coffee table and the muted hockey game on the TV—making himself at home while he waited was as good as giving me the finger.

The lack of respect was so blatant, it couldn’t go unanswered. I filed away thoughts of retribution for later.

Right now I needed him out of my space, because he was talking and I’d already proven myself susceptible to his powers of persuasion once before, dubious though they might be.

Come on, Morgan. Scotland, a yeti on the rampage, innocent humans being stalked and killed. You know you want in.

I might under other circumstances. The case sounded fascinating.

A Scottish yeti? Yetis or other creatures like them weren’t native to Scotland. That country had plenty of huge, hairy, two-legged beasts, but they were called Scotsmen.

And another anomaly: almost all varieties of creature that the human world called yeti or bigfoot were innocuous. Creatures, not monsters. Shy, nonviolent unless threatened, prone to flee rather than fight.

Except Aiden’s yeti. He knew how to push my buttons.

Monster anomalies were hard for any of the Van Helsing sisters to resist, but the idea of a Scottish yeti ticked another of my favorite boxes. Travel. I hadn’t been outside my own territory in… I couldn’t even remember how long.

So, yes, I might find the job intriguing. But Scotland wasn’t my territory, and we had territories for a reason.

Also, why the hell would I work with Aiden again?

I knew he wanted a partner. And I knew I was his only option. I was the only one who knew his secret. None of the other monster hunters were likely to look his direction much less have his back if they found out he was an ice witch. Witches were half demon, making them…us…too much like the monsters we hunted. Or so the rationale went.

It was okay to have a pedigree with a sprinkling of nonhuman ancestors; that just gave us an edge in the fight against the monsters. But too much magic and suddenly we were too close to the creatures we hunted.

No one ever said monster hunters were the smartest bunch. My sisters and I were definitely the cream of the crop. And Aiden, much as I hated to admit it.

After Aiden and I had teamed up to help his dragon shifter buddy, he hadn’t approached me again, and I thought he’d forgotten about his offer.

Whatever his reasons for—finally, four months later—asking me to join him on another case, nothing had changed since he’d proposed forming a partnership.

I worked alone, and unlike Aiden, I liked it that way. Add to that a few pornographic dreams featuring one broad-shouldered, arm-porn-worthy, nicely endowed monster hunter, and this Scottish adventure was a bad idea.

I didn’t do repeats, and Aiden and I had already fucked. Since I might, just possibly, be tempted to go another round with him, better to stay away.

Apparently, I’d been silent too long. He leaned forward and grabbed a chip. After sprinkling salt on my couch and crunching loudly, he grabbed another. His juvenile message being that he wasn’t going anywhere.

I managed not to roll my eyes. Barely. Why the hell are you even involved? What’s your connection to Scotland?

I know a guy who lost a cousin to an attack while he was out there hiking.

    First his
