About this ebook

Politicians routinely wield raw political power to push through troubling legislation like the Aff ordable Care Act, in which the will ofthe people was ignored to satisfy an extreme minority. SUMMARY

    Forward

On January 20,2009 Barack Obama took over as President. The housing and financial markets had badly tanked, and the worst recession in more than seventy years had begun. Trillions of dollars in private assets were swept away almost in an instant. A major economic crisis was in full swing and millions of US workers were losing their jobs while most of them witnessed their home values and retirement assets plummet as these were drained. The elderly, largely on fixed incomes, were impacted in a similar way, and for these folks it was impossible to start over.

The causes in retrospect for the precipitous fall can be traced to a political ideology which was ripe for giving mortgage breaks to low income earners who in no way would ever repay their mortgage debt, and a complicit and greedy banking and lending industry ever so lusty for the huge profits they could earn, and the creative packaging of high risk loans into marketable securities that infected a global marketplace when these securities crashed and became next to worthless.

As their assets crashed and burned millions of Americans witnessed the dawning of the next age of total unaccountability. All the guilty skated free with their loot and their freedom as the middle class suffered appalling losses.

While the BushW administration had its guard down in the last days before the crash, and did little to get tough on loose financial practices, and culprits like Barney Frank, BushW in reality had little to do with the crash itself which had long before been seeded in the Community Reinvestment Act which was given a second chance under the Clinton Administration. Under this federal law, were the loose lending practices given political justification.

President Obama came into office however blaming BushW for the crisis. A famous finger pointing display by Obama started in which Obama would blame BushW for all the economic woes being suffered, while neglecting to use common sense solutions to heal the economy. Instead Obama dumped hundreds of billions down a black hole of government spending on muti hundred million dollar investments in such misguided ideological plays as Solyndra, the solar panel manufacturer that was going bankrupt at the time the Obama administration authorized the huge loan guarantee that the tax payers bore in the end. Such mindless investments multiplied as rewards to Obama cronies who had donated to his campaign.

All along there were domestic policies unfolding under Obama such as an IRS scheme to target conservative taxpayers seeking tax exempt status for their non- profit charities and the disaster that is Obamacare. The use of his considerable power at his disposal in politicizing his policies reached into immigration as well, as he attempted to legalize millions of illegal immigrants from south of the border without going through Congress. Neither have the borders been adequately protected. These illegals are viewed by Obama as future Democratic Party voters. Accordingly, this immigration ship wreck appears to be more intentional at times than it is incompetent government performance.

Then there are the disastrous international problems for which again the misguided thinking of the Obama administration is to blame. The Middle East is aflame with violence from radical Islamic terrorism. Russia is on a rampage in eastern Europe in the Ukraine with ambitions to spread into certain NATO nations. Obama’s misjudgments in these foreign matters are viewed as inept and weak.

The following verbal insights represent opinions and recommendations for ways in which to address these issues and a critique on the Obama administration’s failed policies in a large number of instances.

A View from the Eagle’s Nest

Barack Obama has been in office since January 20 th 2009 and already has unleashed numerous policies that are seriously wrong for America and that are controversial and contradictory.

    Foreign policy-Honduras

The Obama administration has shown its inexperience and poor judgment in opposing the Honduras disputed power grab. If the opposition in Iran had been successful in toppling the current regime, even by a forced take over, then the Obama administration would have declared victory. Can you imagine Obama complaining about a forced regime change in Iran? It is inexcusable for the U.S. government to interfere with the dynamics of political change in Honduras. One must ask—how bad can the judgment of the Obama administration get. After all, ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya is really a bad guy who is aligned with the Castros and Hugo Chavez—these people are not our friends, and never will be. All Americans who are pro-U.S. should cheer the realignment in Honduras, and voice opposition to the inexperienced and poor judgment of President Obama and his administration as to the developments in Honduras.

    Foreign policy-Israel

Israel must remain independent and secure in its territory. The Obama administration by calling for a freeze in the Israeli settlements and a two state solution has leaned in the direction of appeasing the Arab interests in the region. Voices of greater realism understand that peaceful coexistence of the Israelis and Palestinians under any mutual pact with commonly acceptable terms is not possible.

Israel must look first to protecting its own independence, security and survival. Any real movement by Israel to meet the stated U.S. goals for Israel in the Middle East will only weaken Israel’s independence and security. Irrespective of how appalling this is, it is true. America has only one real ally in the Middle East—it is Israel. Any U.S. foreign policy in the region should recognize that Israeli interests must come first. But this is not the case. The Obama administration has singled out goals for Israel to meet that will clearly weaken Israel’s independence and security.

Fortunately, Israel is pushing back, and demanding conditions that will assure that Israel remains independent and secure. It will not agree to a complete freeze of it’s settlements, but will insist on natural growth in these settlements. It will insist on a demilitarized Palestine, and an undivided Jerusalem, and will not expressly agree to a two state solution. Israel must continue to stand firm, and not cave in to U.S. demands. This is essential for the long term viability, and security of Israel.

    Domestic policy-Cap and trade

The House action to pass the bill on carbon emissions is a disaster for U.S. citizens who will be forced to pay alarming increases in their electric bills. This bill’s passage also fails to acknowledge and capitalize on the enormous advantage that this nation holds in coal resources. In fact it will blunt and penalize the use of coal, and unwittingly shift an undue burden to the development of costly and scarce renewable energy resources such as the sun, geothermal and wind. This is a short sighted bill that with passage by the Senate will lead to more unemployment and inflated energy prices, just at the time when millions of Americans are struggling with a serious economic downturn. It clearly demonstrates the arbitrary and capricious attitude of the Obama administration and the Pelosi led House Democrats. The only chance now for a sane resolution of this enormously burdensome and ill timed proposed legislation rests with the Senate.

    Domestic policy-Illegal immigration

The Obama administration and Congress are preparing to debate and pass on comprehensive immigration reform legislation. It is no secret that President Obama, and Senator John McCain are at the forefront of those desiring to give a pass to millions of immigrants who have entered this nation illegally over a porous border to the south. While I am not opposed to immigration, I am opposed to illegal immigration. The rule of law must be upheld for this republic to sustain legitimacy. The millions of immigrants who have flowed over the border into this country illegally must be deported regardless of the personal difficulties that may be involved in this process. It is inexcusable for this administration, the past administration and for key politicians like John McCain to promote immigration reform—the code phrase for amnesty, or the legitimization of law breaking. The reform policy debate underway will attempt to defend those who have crossed our borders illegally, and filled our schools, hospitals and prisons with law breakers who are taking a heavy toll on U.S. taxpayers. There is nothing right, legal or equitable in the insanity of immigration reform. The American public must stand up and put an end to this reform policy.

Foreign policy-war on terror in Afghanistan

There is terrible news for our ground troops in Afghanistan. Air strikes under the Obama administration, based on direct orders issued by the U.S. Command, will highly restrict the use of air support normally used to protect Americans on the ground who depend on it.

The use of air drone strikes to take out prospective high-value terrorist targets will also be limited. The reason: to protect Afghan civilians who are human shields for the Taliban and al-Qaida.

These new rules of engagement play directly into the hands of the enemy and will lead to a certain increase in casualties for American ground troops and a reduction in the hits of high-value targets.

This misguided policy is a very bad idea. Taliban and al-Qaida leaders and fighters will be able to move around with impunity while our ground troops become vulnerable targets without normal air support in the firefights in which they are often ambushed and outnumbered.

The Obama administration thereby has chosen to make sacrificial lambs out of American ground troops to placate the local Afghan tribes. This is inexcusable policy!

    Domestic policy-healthcare

The Obama administration’s push to usher through a national healthcare plan will rob the elderly and the middle class, and destroy the chance for the working millions to secure the social and medical benefits of older age for which they have worked hard and paid for during their lives. A $1.6 trillion cost over 10 years is the low side estimate for the crippling cost of this failed attempt to bring omnibus healthcare to the nation. It is estimated that even when completed this proposed plan will leave tens of millions of Americans uninsured—a gigantic failure that will weigh on the backs of Americans for generations to come.

Congress must slow down now and determine the various sensible options for arriving at an improved health plan for the nation. Taxes of all types will fall on the middle class to pay for the healthcare plan being concocted by the most intrusive and spendthrift administration in this nation’s history.

During a repressive economic downturn, this administration’s knee jerk policies and future rationing of existing healthcare plans such as Medicare, and suffocating tax increases, will bury the elderly and the middle class under mountains of misery and increased taxes. This is wrong and must be stopped!

David Brooks’s Op-Ed in the NY Times on the gyrations taking place in the formation of a new national healthcare plan brushes over the serious financial burdens that the Obama administration policy will place on the middle class, and the immense gaps and rationing in coverage that will result.

The Obama plan will mean that the middle class will be carrying the heavy burden of the proposed plan, and that the quality of care will be reduced by rationing the level of healthcare. In addition, latest estimates indicate that tens of millions of additional Americans will remain uncovered after the plan is implemented.

This rush to judgment, one that will cost 1 trillion dollars over ten years, must stop. The Obama administration feels compelled to make its mark on the American healthcare system. This proposed plan, however, has not been thought out, and will reduce the level of healthcare for millions of Americans at a significantly increased cost that will hit the middle class the hardest.

The Obama administration and the Democrats are frantically attempting to identify sources of tax revenues and cost reductions to pay for this ill conceived, hastily developed policy.

Under the proposed policy, employer provided healthcare would be taxed. This in addition to the heavy tax burden shouldered by the middle class by the exclusion of medical costs in the tax code amounting to 10% of adjusted gross income. To reduce costs, existing medical care, including those to Medicare patients, will be significantly cut back. The government is not sincere about trying to make healthcare more affordable to Americans. Everything that the Obama administration is proposing will increase the financial burden on middle class Americans and cut the quality of their care.

How sincere do you really believe the government is about easing the burden of healthcare costs on the middle class in this nation, and providing better quality care? The Obama plan for funding healthcare will lead to higher costs for the middle class and also to healthcare rationing.

Obama’s administration is planning to raise middle class taxes by taxing employer provided healthcare benefits. Of course, union member healthcare benefits would be exempt. Also, at present, there is an exclusion in the tax code of 10% of your adjusted gross income for medical costs meaning that most middle class Americans are paying taxes on their entire medical costs. This is wrong, and there are no plans to fix it. Again, how sincere is the government about easing your healthcare costs?

Older people on Medicare are also in for a rude awakening. Their benefits are going down, with more rationing expected. Need an MRI for that knee problem? Forget it.

Middle class America is going to be forced to carry the burden of this new Obama healthcare plan on its back. Be careful for what you wish for—it’s not going to be what you think, and the middle class standard of living is going to be slashed. Compliments of the Obama administration healthcare plan.

    Foreign policy-Israel

The most important result in the Middle East is for Israel to remain an independent, strong and secure nation.

The freshly articulated Israeli position, as announced by leader Netanyahu, is for a disarmed Palestine, for the Palestinian refugee matter to be resolved outside Israel and for Palestine to recognize statehood for Israel. Netanyahu by asserting these demands continues to drive a hard bargain with the Palestinians. Any two state solution based on these conditions could then, and only then, be acceptable to Israel.

It is extremely doubtful that Hamas and the Palestinian Authority will be willing and able to accede to these conditions, thereby canceling any two state solution. This is certainly a disappointment to Obama and his administration who were hoping for a much more conciliatory proposal from Israel.

After much prodding by Obama, it is clear that Netanyahu is going to be his own person, and will defend first the interests of Israel, even if it means not bending to the full wishes of President Obama.

    Domestic policy-Homeland security

The OP-ED article by Frank Rich in the Sunday NY Times titled The Obama Haters’ Silent Enablers dangerously links recent violence committed by lone wolf extremists to the commentary by Fox News personnel such as Bill O’reilly and Glenn Beck. This is tantamount to a claim that far left commentators who preached with vehement rage against the Bush policies in Iraq inflamed the enemy to kill American troops in Iraq. Should the winds of dissent be snuffed out by either side in these debates because nature takes its course, and bad things happen? Should we link Obama’s recent pro Muslim speech in Egypt to the murder of the Army recruiter by a home grown Muslim convert?

As I see it, the recent Homeland Security Department report warning everyone about the threat from right wing extremists was a biased political work that attempted to focus on and silence anyone who happened to be anti abortion or anti illegal immigration and placed into doubt the character of all returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans. The report was more obvious for the threats that it omitted than for the ones that it mentioned. Nowhere did the report mention the threat of Islamic terrorist cells formed and developing in the U.S. or the threat from home grown Muslim terrorists like the one who recently murdered without any regret a U.S. Army recruiter.

Left leaning liberals like Frank Rich are blind and deaf to the hate preaching, violence inducing behavior of the far left—people like President Obama’s former minister and mentor Jeremiah Wright, for example.

America is a nation of passions, and certainly has its share of lunatics. But we must never attempt to silence dissent from the other side merely because we do not agree with it.

    Domestic policy-Supreme Court nomination

This is in response to the NY Times editorial on May 30, 2009 regarding the vetting of Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor. The editorial knocks down all the vetting positions offered by those who are pointing to problems in Judge Sotomayor’s background that reflect on her ability to make sound decisions on the Court if the Senate consents to her appointment. I think it would be foolish to believe that Sotomayor will not pass muster in the Senate consent process.
