The Divided States of America

About this ebook
The Divided States of America is a political book that goes deeper than most have dared to go. It digs right into the very meaning of being an American. It dissects what it is that is ailing American politics today, and what it is going to take to fix it. There are so many issues in the United States that people are refusing to talk about and The Divided States of America takes them head on. While approaching the issues Americans face with realism, there is room to be optimistic. The partisan war that is threatening to tear America apart can be stopped. There are far too many "obvious" American truths that have been forgotten, and The Divided States of America is a much-needed refresher. The American people need this book and they need it right now

Chapter One
Nation Of Immigrants
As Americans, we tend to get caught up too much in our everyday activities to view the big picture. We are trapped in the everyday hustle and bustle and forget to take a step back and look at where we came from. When it comes to the history of America we very rarely take a glance back. This is a very simple statement but it is one that tends to be forgotten, or completely ignored: we are a nation of immigrants. All of us in the United States came from somewhere else, unless we are of 100% Native American ancestry. Europe, Africa, Asia, we all came from somewhere. Whether you were born in the United States or not, your ancestors came from somewhere else. This fact seems to be forgotten in today’s world and especially in today’s politics as we pretend that outsiders
are somehow different than the rest of us. If we want to solve our issues as a country, we need to remember we are all the same and act accordingly.
All too often in today’s political climate there is this harsh line that develops between people of different beliefs. Even more disturbing is the willingness of people to discriminate and cast hate upon others they deem different than themselves. These contrasts are drawn along a number of different lines: race, political beliefs, religion, sexuality. In America, citizens have been fighting for decades for equality among all people in every facet of life, and yet in this day and age we seem to have moved backwards. We seem to have decided that to be different is no longer to be cherished and celebrated; instead to be different is to be cast aside and feared.
There is this dangerous notion that is creeping up in today’s United States that there are Americans and there are outsiders. The issue is these outsiders do not have to be from another country to receive this tag and the differential treatment that goes along with it. In fact, in many cases, these people are American citizens. These people are born and raised in the USA, and as patriotic as any other citizen. Despite this, certain people are treated differently because they look different or think differently than the majority of Americans. As a nation we have seemingly forgotten what it means to be an American.
