Blankets of Praise - Hannah B. Johnson

    INTRODUCTION

Spinning around the living room of the small town-home, I would sing from my belly while watching the denim, tiered dress billow in circular waves around me. How bold and free was my childlike melody! How joyful was my small but full heart!

That moment is the faintest memory of my early childhood and, yet, the feeling in that moment is vivid as I write these words. While the music and circumstances surrounding that moment have not withstood the test of time, the sentiment and inner movement have.

These twenty-five years since twirling in circles before the hearth have seen me change. I still sing from my belly and often move these limbs in worship. My early years saw me pursuing melodies to make a name for myself. My adolescence ended knowing that there is only One Name for which I should live and sing: Jesus.

As my time in praising Jesus and leading others in praise of Him reaches its tenth anniversary, I lift my hands to the Maker of heaven and earth with written words in place of a melody. God has done incredible work in the midst of worship. I only see that work through a glass darkly but, one day, it will all be crystal clear.

Today, I pause to write down a few of the lessons my Creator has pressed in my heart as I have worshiped Him
