Introduction
Hello everyone! My name is Priyanka Mashelkar, and this is Up Close and Personal Finance: A Simple System for Achieving Your Financial Goals
a course from Scribd. Thank you for joining me. Let’s get started.
At some point in all of our lives, it finally occurs to us that we need to think carefully about our finances — that it’s not enough to just deal with our money without thinking about it. This is where the personal finance industry comes into play.
But too often, much of the advice offered by the industry is complicated, risky, and questionable. Personal finance doesn’t need to be complicated — it’s not about picking the right stocks, mastering cryptocurrency, or creating a startup that launches you into wealth. It should be something you can implement quickly with little interference or research.
In this course, I am going to help you create a self-sustaining, simple system for your finances that will enable you to achieve the life you want while your finances work, almost on autopilot, behind the scenes.
This system involves making sure you’re budgeting and paying yourself first; setting up an emergency fund; building and maintaining a credit score; paying off debt; planning for retirement; estate planning; setting financial goals; increasing income without increasing effort; and taking care of general housekeeping with your finances.
Setting up this system will take some time and effort — but once you’ve done the work of establishing it, it’s set-it-and-forget-it. In other words -- once you build it, it’ll pretty much run itself and live in your regular habits.
I firmly believe that the key component of personal finance is the personal
part. For one thing, our finances affect our relationships with our friends, families, and spouses. So, it’s important to maintain the right perspective on money; it’s a tool to achieve happiness. So, along the process of changing your mindset, keep in mind that sacrificing your relationships to get there defeats the purpose.
I also really emphasize the personal
component because, although this system
