    No poem is ever finished.

Why do we lock them into form ?

Pick them up and play with them,

    Love them,

    Keep them warm.

    Dreaming

    Where has it gone

    An entire world

    Lost to birdsong

    Fiercely scrunched eyes

    Desperately replicate darkness

    To no avail

    Sailing away into night

Dreaming is lost to morning light

It’s a surprise to open my eyes and be here

    So near moments from here

    And eternally out of reach

    Why are they separated

    Dreaming and me

    Mornings

    I see you in shadow

    Rough outline

    With a little light behind

    I see you in shadow

    Here in my mind

    Playful reflections of past

    Dim recollections tasked

With keeping you alive for me

    Whilst distant

Oh insistent fingers on my hidden heart strings

Soft vibration of past living joy

The plot of pictures is not to see through them

    Accepting two dimensional space

When it’s your face pressed against mine I long for

    and the longing lingers

    Lingers in shadow

    Waking

    Rainfall’s Chattering call

    Down drainpipes

    Seeping into my sleeping

    Moistening dreams

    Soaking expectations

    Of a dry day

    Curtains closed

    Greeting me in sound

    Slow sleepy head

    Comes easily around

    To rainy ways of thinking

    Familiar friend

    Softening

    Offering refuge

    Water speckled windows

    Hide me inside

    This Sleeping fortress Bed

    Whilst lazy interlopers

    Drift through my head

    Vagrant thoughts graze

    No assembly of reason

    In an early morning haze

    Night pictures

    Skulking still

    Fragments

    Incomplete

    Slink deeper into shadow

    Returning to sleep

    Window tapping wakefulness

    Assails warm enfolding nest

    December day’s late dawning

    This time of day

    I love best

    Standing still

    On a bridge between worlds

    Both calling siren song

    Drifting to where dreams abide

    Or grudgingly greet the birds

    There’s no wrong

    In darkness of morning

    Wet fingers against zinc insist

    Languorousness resists

    His persistent tapping thrum

    Heart’s slow sleepy beat

    My chosen day drum rhythm

    Blood not yet driven
