    Christmas Connections - Brandy Woldstad

    Chapter 1

Kaylee McFee practically pressed her forehead against the plane’s frosty window, doing her best to ignore the rustling sounds of the other passengers on the packed plane. The air vent nozzles blasted cold air above her and stirred the subtle citrus scent from the man next to her. She felt drawn to his scent, but refused to look at him more than a few glimpses from the corner of her eye. From the bit of attractiveness she saw, she knew he was spoken for.

The captain spoke through the intercom. She expressed the usual gratitude for choosing Delta for their holiday travels while the plane taxied forward. The plane engine grew louder as the plane gained speed, drowning out what little conversation happened in the cabin.

The pavement blurred into a solid gray. The runway lights blinked by in the waning light. Within moments, the plane left the ground.

Despite the many hours Kaylee spent flying from one place to another for sales meetings, she still marveled at how something so awkward could soar through the heavens as easily as a bird. The fact that the human mind had found just the right combination of lift and propulsion left her in awe.

The man next to her bumped her shoulder as he reached forward to tap the screen mounted on the seat in front of him. She turned to him, expecting an apology, and took in a startled breath of recognition.

Jason Hanson, with his wavy dark hair, broad shoulders, and well-toned muscles, was hard to forget. At the University of Minnesota - Duluth, Jason had been one of the star basketball players. A man whose bronze complexion and dimpled smile made every girl on campus swoon, including her.

He paid no attention to her while he scrolled through the movie selections with a set of earphones plugged into his ears. She wasn’t sure why he bothered; the flight wasn’t long enough to finish a movie.

She turned back to the window, disappointed that her winter view disappeared now that it was dark. Jason continued to bump her arm with his while he scrolled through the selections.

As business majors in college, they shared many classes together and worked on many group projects late into the night. Her face warmed as memories of her cheesy romantic gestures like leaving notes and humming love songs to get Jason’s attention played through her mind. Kaylee offered a silent prayer that Jason
