Analyses Of A Slave Mentality - J. E. Lindsay, Jr.

    Preface

A Slave Mentality, not intended to be a history lesson, does require some lessons from the past to voice his and her story.  It is about a group of people who have fought and suffered either by the hands of outside influences or by their own.  As time continues to press forward, we have to take a hard look at the past to understand all of the true-life trauma, life and death struggles, precarious predicaments, along with the unspeakable hardships of slavery. Historians and history books can only share so much perspective on this subject.  What are the ghosts of slavery trying to tell us? What of the feelings and nightmares shared amongst people that have not even had to endure such tragedy. On the other hand, is it all just a travesty? Generations after generations have had to see loved ones brutalized in the name of hate. From the first African slave in America, to the last real slave on the books, was there damage done? How much change, has really changed? Today we live in a world of technology, social media, and social reform. Although these influences have brought us closer together, there are underlying forces tearing us apart. This book will raise some questions as well as some eyebrows, but its main purpose is... to elevate awareness to a broken justice system, broken families, and broken minds. Whether a slave mentality can be proven or disproven is irrelevant. Opening the mentality of what was and still is, are the true objectives.

Think of the energy, time and effort wasted hating someone because they are different.  Visualize hating so much that the sole purpose of some human beings was to destroy other lives at all cost.  Since all of humanity created is in God’s image, can we not see Him when we look at one another? Did Cain cause that much divide in the hearts of humankind with the slaying of Abel?

Analyses of A Slave Mentality considers the possible toll that slavery has taken from nearly 250 years ago, to where we are today. Systematic notions, facts, feelings, opinions and insights, carefully combined to create questions about the long-term effects of captive bondage. Whether it is emotionally, physically, mentally or psychologically, or maybe a collection of them all, the information is in place to either agree or disagree. "If a train hits them, and they never saw it coming; woe unto them.

If a train hits them, and they saw it coming; woe unto the world."

    Introduction

While living in America, there are people who pretend that everything is all good and precise, while others around the world make a mockery of us. There are those who pretend that our nation has always held the highest esteems when it comes to equality and humanitarian standards.  There are attempts to place everything in its own category, like placing things in a shopping bin for sale. In America, we have to create names or labels to define who we are or where we came from.  Why is it that way? Every ten years, a census (head count) is taken to find out how many people reside in the United States. Data processed by gender, age, ethnicity, location, along with other factors are demographics.

Demographics are the characteristics of human populations for purposes of social studies.  They use statistical features of populations such as age, ethnicity or income.  The data is for polling and elections to find out where the most significant votes (voices) are coming from.  Funding distributed from government agencies are for communities, which include schools, infrastructures and housing.  Moneys are set aside and approved to provide for the public; based on demography. Can data of this type exist to single-out ethnic groups? Can data manipulated, be fixed to approve or disapprove financial decisions for communities and individuals?  If not, will it be information used to do checks and balances? So, what are the different nationalities affected by demographics? The American melting pot consist of Anglo-American, Native-American, Mexican-American, African-American, Asian-American, Arab-American and other non-white hyphenated American communities. As a result, what happened to being Americans?

When it comes to funding for schools, businesses and other major building blocks needed for a community, there has usually been one ethnic group of people that were consistently shortchanged... the African-Americans. With all of the categorization in this nation, a few challenging questions have continued to be ask about African-American people:  Why are they so angry?, "Why do they act like that?" and Why do they feel like society owes them something?  Another concern should be... how does society, in general, view most Black people? Those with clouded viewpoints and stereotypical thinking may ask, Why are they so defiant, disrespectful, disruptive, lazy and loud? This is typically in connection with other negative descriptions. Why is the perception that black people disobey rules and break laws at a rate higher than other cultural groups? Are Black people, in general, really showing himself or herself in this light? How about the ones who are constantly battling the stereotype perceived?  What about the individuals who are actually living up to the perception with total disregard; dissing others and themselves?

When there is talk about cultural behavior, take into account, the mindset, character and a deep look into patterns of history. Why did most Italians have the brand of being in the mob or gangs?  Why did many Jews have the label for being tight with money or stingy? Why were a great number of Native Indians seen as notorious savages and highly uncivilized? Why do so many Mexicans carry the stigma of being hard workers, but perceived as illegal? Not all these descriptions were always the truth. These labels found their way into folklore and stood the test of time. So, what about African slavery? Has its stories became more urban myths than a true testament of a past we refuse to remember or refuse to forget?  Could it just be blatant denial?

As soon as some people ask or talk about the impact of slavery, some in society brush it off as outdated and irrelevant. Is slavery having adverse long-term effect? Have there been any issues addressed?  Have concerns been swept under the rug of (inconvenience) convenience? If people are really trying to understand the impact that slavery truly had or is having, they must first understand the suffrage, loss and degradation experienced during slavery and beyond. History books or even passed-down stories will never fully explain the magnitude of what it was like to feel, hear, smell and see the brutality of this bondage. Try to imagine the dark, wet and confined places on the ships going to a foreign place away from freedom and home. How about feeling like property, opposed to being human? The closest comparisons would possibly come from the Jewish community (the Holocaust), and some of the prison systems.  Even then, it is truly hard to identify with such cruelty, ignorance and narrow-mindedness.

These atrocities can and will repeat themselves if society continues to turn a blind-eye and ignore some of the hate that is happening in the present day.  The thought of having our freedoms taken away should be enough to make Americans cringe in fear.  What happens if these simple liberties are ever lost?  What if, slavery never existed or the roles reversed. Would America be the same? There would definitely be different rules, altered laws and amendments for sure. Is it possible that other nations would have marched into the New World if European Americans were enslaved? Would the world have ignored Anglo-Americans enslaved by the hands of African Americans today? What if the minority, was
