About this ebook

Excerpts from the book:
The Vyrajians did not doubt that it was a rigged one. First, the Volkolaks never attacked people just like that. Secondly, they were too far from their hidden in the thicket of hillfort. And, thirdly, if they suddenly wanted to kill the boy for some reason, they would have done it without difficulty. After all, what is the five-year-old versus the adult wolf?
In connection with such strange events, the Vyrajians left the Slavic tribes for some time and urgently gathered for a council in Radogosh, in the palace of Triglav.
“Why would the wolves give the boy their blood?” Perun wondered.
“Your truth, all this is very unusual,” Mokosh confirmed.
Discussions and disputes boiled down mainly to the fact that none of the Vyrajians understood the motive of the Volkolaks.
“If for some reason they wanted to harm him, they would have done it without much effort,” Triglav noted. “But the Volkolaks allowed the boy to kill one of them, and most importantly: to drink his blood! This probably some intent! But what does it mean? Will he become a wolf now, or will he just acquire a wolf scent?”
Sirin, who until now had kept a thoughtful silence, said:
“Five years ago, when Mecheslav's mother, Ladomira, and the hunter Lesyar left Velegosh, one she-wolf joined them on the way to Stargard.”
“Yes, I remember you said that it was not the simple she-wolf, but Volkolak,” Ziva responded immediately. “She also confessed to Ladomira, before leaving, that she would also have a child from Lesyar. But Volkolaks women often give birth from humans, there is nothing strange about that.”

...“I am dying...” the High Bishop said with difficulty to the cardinals gathered around him. “Soon Logos will leave my body and will choose for himself a new successor, the next High Bishop...”
Everyone looked at Gregory and listened to his words. The High Bishop took a breath and continued with difficulty:
“When Logos chooses one of you, this person will become his new embodiment on earth. Obey him and honor him...”
The cardinals nodded and told Gregory IX that it would be so. After that, the Bishop closed his eyes and breathed out his last. The cardinals gathered at his bedside offered a prayer to the almighty Logos, so that he would choose a worthy successor for his immortal soul.
They didn't have to wait long. It took about a minute (but it seemed to the cardinals at that moment that it lasted an eternity) before a clot of golden mist slowly separated from the chest of the deceased. The cardinals froze in religious awe; their prayers froze on their lips. Meanwhile, the fog slowly continued to hover over the body of the Bishop.
Finally, the golden haze, slowly, one by one, flew around the cardinals frozen with excitement, choosing Leo of Luxembourg. Logos, being in the body of Gregory, had already looked closely at him earlier, as well as at several other cardinals. But in the end, he decided to choose Leo.
Leo of Luxembourg, although he entered the time of old age, did not complain about his health. In addition, the Cardinal had great influence and many useful connections.
A golden haze hung in front of the new successor for a few moments. The Cardinal, frozen with tension and anxiety, felt a cold sweat break out on his forehead. How he longed to be the next High Bishop! But what if Logos does not choose him? What if he changes his mind?
To the great amazement of the cardinals, the golden haze approached the chest of Leo... And then it completely disappeared into him. The Cardinal was seized with a certain thrill, then it seemed to him that he was about to soar above the sinful Earth...

    Prologue 2

Rod the Mighty! You are the Creator of Yav, Nav and Prav, you created the Heavenly clan and the Earthly clan with Rozhanitsy. I create glory to You, as Your blood son or daughter. I glorify the Sun-Dazhbog, which rises over the Earth-Mokosh every morning, saturates and warms the Sacred Land with a golden ray, and gives life to the earthly clan — the children of the gods. May the glory of the hundred-voiced Dazhbog fly to Vyraj and fill there with the love of the children of the Earth. Let your seed sprout in human souls by the power of the sacred, by the power of Svarog, happiness, health and long years![1]

A heavy atmosphere reigned over the sacred city of Radogosh again. Sirin brought strange news: Volkolaks gave Mecheslav their blood to drink! Moreover, having done everything so that it looked like an attack of ordinary wolves!

Why would the wolves give the boy their blood? Perun wondered.

Your truth, all this is very unusual, Mokosh confirmed.

Discussions and disputes boiled down mainly to the fact that none of the Vyrajians understood the motive of the Volkolaks.

If for some reason they wanted to harm him, they would have done it without much effort, Triglav noted. But the Volkolaks allowed the boy to kill one of them, and most importantly: to drink his blood! This probably some intent! But what does it mean? Will he become a wolf now, or will he just acquire a wolf scent?

Sirin, who until now had kept a thoughtful silence, said:

Five years ago, when Mecheslav's mother, Ladomira, and the hunter Lesyar left Velegosh, one she-wolf joined them on the way to Stargard.

Yes, I remember you said that it was not the simple she-wolf, but Volkolak, Ziva responded immediately. She also confessed to Ladomira, before leaving, that she would also have a child from Lesyar. But Volkolaks women often give birth from humans, there is nothing strange about that.

All the Vyrajians looked at Ziva. Under their gaze, she felt uncomfortable.

Why is everyone looking at me like that, as if I said something inappropriate? she wondered.

Oh no! On the contrary, you reminded us of what we forgot, smiled Mokosh. How did we not immediately realize?

The Vyrajians, having caught the hidden meaning of her words, understood everything.

Meanwhile, Mokosh voiced her thoughts aloud.

I have no doubt that the Volkolaks deliberately gave Mecheslav their blood to drink in the hope that in the future the boy would go over to the side of the Slavs. And then, they will convince him that the Volkolaks are not enemies, but allies of the Slavic tribes.

I suppose you're right, Triglav said and continued: The Volkolaks have greatly helped the Slavs in the recent battles against the Saxons. If the Saxons seize the Slavic lands and continue to cut down forests, sooner or later they will find the Volkolaks. And for the worshipers of Logos, Volkolaks are, first of all, evil spirits, subject to destruction. Therefore, the Volkolaks took such an unusual step. Now among the Saxons lives a boy, in whose veins the blood of wolves.

That's why the Vyrajians decided: it is unlikely that the descendants of Fenrir wish evil for Mecheslav. It was also decided that Sirin would continue to monitor the boy as before. And the other Vyrajians will return to the Slavic tribes again and will continue to help them like ordinary people.
