The Ultimate Guide To The GoPro Hero 10 - Justin Whiting
Introduction
The GoPro Hero 10 Black is an incredible camera and with the help of this book, you can create stunning pictures and videos.
This book will fully explain each setting, mode and option. After reading it, you will fully understand how each setting impacts the footage, and how to set up the camera for each unique situation. You will be given real-life, in-the-field examples of when to use each setting and how to get the most amazing footage. Also featuring Pro-Tips from my years of action-sports production work that you can’t find in any other GoPro or filmmaking guide.
I am a seasoned action and adventure sports photographer and filmmaker with over 15 years of professional experience. I have been using GoPro cameras on production since the Hero HD Camera. The GoPro is an essential part of my camera kit. I never go on any adventure without it. I worked on staff with the GoPro Media Team creating some of their amazing YouTube videos, social content, launch reels and TV commercials.

First Steps
The first thing you want to do when you get your new GoPro is charge the battery and put in the memory card. The GoPro does not come with a MicroSD card so you will have to buy your own. Make sure you get a fast enough MicroSD card or the camera will not be able to record at the highest resolutions or frame rates. The GoPro 10 supports a minimum of Class 10 or UHS-1 cards up to 512 GB.
My go-to MicroSD card is the SanDisk 256 GB Extreme microSDXC. If you want to save some money, you can also buy a smaller card and still have plenty of space. I always have larger cards in the camera just to ensure I never run out of space while filming.
When you first turn on your camera, you will have the option to set the date and time. Make sure you always set the correct date and time. It will make it easier to organize footage later, and it will help you find specific shots.
Update Your Firmware
The next step is to make sure your GoPro is updated to the latest firmware and take the time to connect your GoPro to the GoPro Quik Application on your phone. By keeping your camera up to date, you will make sure it is working at it's full capacity and unlock new features.
The easiest way to update your camera is by using the GoPro Quik App. This app is free to download and allows you to control your camera fully remotely. When you first connect your camera to the application, you will be prompted to update to the newest firmware. Your phone will download the update, and then transfer it to the camera. This will take a few minutes. Do not turn off your camera or your phone while it is updating. The GoPro Quik App will always notify you when there is new firmware available.
If you do not want to use the GoPro Quik App to update your camera, you can do it manually as well. You can download the latest firmware updates from the support section of the GoPro website (GoPro.com/support). You will transfer this file onto your SD card and then put the SD card back into the camera. This will automatically start the update.
Quik App Basics
How to connect your GoPro Hero 10 to the Quik App:
1. Turn on your camera.
2. Open the utility menu by swiping down from the top of the touch display, then swipe left.
3. Select Connections and then Connect Device.
4. Tap GoPro App and put your camera into pairing mode.
5. Open the GoPro Quik App on your phone.
6. If it does not prompt you immediately, click on the camera icon in the top right.
7. Click the camera icon again in the top right.
8. We Found Your GoPro
will pop up with a Pair Camera
button. Hit Pair Camera.
If it does not show up, you will be prompted to select which camera you have. Click Hero 10
and the phone will find it. If it does not, make sure the application and the camera firmware is up to date.
9. You will have the option to change your camera's name if you want, or just continue with the default.
10. Now your camera is connected and ready to use with the App.
The GoPro Quik App will let you completely control your camera, download your footage and then make fast, stylish edits. Here you will find an explanation of how to control the camera with the App and how to view your footage. The Quik App editing will be explained in the post production section.
First off, you will have to connect to the WiFi of the camera. This will allow you to watch footage saved to your MicroSD card and live preview what the camera is seeing. Press the Enable Preview
button and then click Join
to connect to the camera's WiFi.
Now you are able to fully control the camera using the App. Here is a quick description of what each button does and which menus they will open:
1. This shows you how much recording time remains, your battery levels and if the GPS is activated.
2. The wrench will open the preferences menu and the power button will turn off the camera.
3. Swiping between these will switch between time lapse mode, video mode, photo mode and live streaming.
4. This icon opens the storage of the camera so you can preview and download any of your photos and videos.
5. Here you can switch between the different presets in each mode.
