DSLR Photography Cookbook - Corey Kidd
Introduction
Photography is something people have been enamored with since the invention of the first camera. We take family photos at birthdays, vacations, and while we’re just fooling around in the backyard pool. But did you know that you can take photos just like the professionals with a camera that’s not as pricey? And when you’re finished with taking family photos, you can then start selling photos of unique things you’ve found in your backyard?
Yes, it’s possible to get an amazing photograph using a camera that cost just a few hundred dollars, and it’s possible to start your own side business that could grow into a full-time business using just that camera and a few cheap tools.
In this book, I’m going to teach you how to do that and much more with the unique idea of using recipes to show you how to setup your camera for the perfect shot! With twenty recipes, you’ll learn how to use your camera the way it was meant to be used. So if you’re ready to learn how to take crisp and clear photos of your kids at their soccer game, or a blurred photo of a waterfall that looks artistic and moody, then keep reading!
Chapter One: What is a DSLR Camera?
In this chapter, you will find:
An explanation of what a DSLR camera is.
How to use your DSLR camera.
The different lenses at your disposal.
Advantages of using a DSLR camera versus other types.
What to consider when purchasing a DSLR camera.
SLR Defined
SLR stands for single lens reflex. When you’re using an SLR camera, you’re able to see exactly what the lens is seeing. Digital SLR cameras give you a wider range of sensors so that you can get an even better picture out of the camera. You can take photographs of just about anything with a DSLR camera and not be limited by the camera. The only thing that can limit you is yourself, but we’ll rectify that problem by the end of this book.
The Anatomy of a Digital SLR
In order to fully understand what a DSLR camera is, you have to understand a little bit of the mechanics of the camera itself. In order to avoid getting technical, let’s just take a look at the basics.
The light passes through the lens and strikes the mirror.
The mirror will reflect that light up to the focusing screen.
The light then passes through that screen and goes into a block of glass that’s known as the pentaprism.
The block of glass then reflects that image so that you can see it.
Once you take the photo, the mirror flips up and the shutter opens to expose the digital sensor to the light.
It’s a good thing to keep in mind that DSLR cameras do not have one hundred percent accuracy when it comes to what you’re going to see in the viewfinder. There’s a lot about coverage and brightness in the manual. Basically, the coverage for most cameras is ninety-five percent, which means five percent of what you see on the screen will be cut off the edges. In addition, the brightness can vary from camera to camera. This is how clear the image
