The Spiritual Treasure Trove - Charles Ray Smith

    Introduction

I recall when I was about twelve years old, while I was flying a kite in a meadow behind my house. The kite flew so high that it became a small dot in the sky. I remember that, as I was looking upward at the sky, I talked to God. I said, God, are you up there? God, what is life supposed to be about?

This was a response to things I had seen, experienced, and pondered. The first six years were somewhat sketchy. I didn’t know what life with a mom and dad was truly about. Mom had been sick during my early years, and Dad was in military service overseas. I spent most of that period being raised by my aunt. As time elapsed, finally, we came together as a family and moved to a new town as a family. Yet, I found that, even in family life, there were challenges.

Reflecting upon a time spent in high school, I remember being in the twelfth grade. We had to do an essay for the final exam for Ms. Baker’s English class. I chose to write about God as the topic of my essay. I got an A+ and praise for that paper. Mostly, it was contemplations I had within my heart.

Seems like, from my early existence (and even to now), I’ve always had questions about God and life and His expectations. This has been the quest that has most preoccupied me on my life’s journey.

This book entails not only the thoughts I have pondered and the questions I’ve asked and longed to know the answers for, but also the answers I’ve found through many hours of research, prayer, and meditation. I now have the peace, knowledge, and wisdom. God provides for those who diligently seek him through the study of His Word. And I know that, if I have been blessed by His Word, I can be a blessing to others by sharing His Word to the many people who also have questions about life and living and God’s Will for their lives. If His Word has strengthened, helped, and healed me, I truly believe and know that others can find the solace and encouragement they’re longing for, especially during these troublesome and trying times.

    May God Bless,

    Acknowledgments

I give thanks to God for placing on my mind and heart the desire to write a book that I believe will inspire and encourage others in the most holy faith. I truly believe that, in order to be spiritually led, we must be spiritually fed. There should be a constant diet of the Word of God. God’s desire is that we read, study, and meditate on His Word, that we may grow and be in tune with His holy and divine will.

And they said one to another, did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures (Luke 24:32, 45).

Seek ye out of the book of the Lord and read: No one of these fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them (Isaiah 34:16).

O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of Lord (Jeremiah 22:29).

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15).

Jesus answered and said unto them, ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God (Matthew 22:29).

I would also like to give thanks to my wife, Dolores, for her seemingly tireless resolve and dedication in assisting me to bring this book to fruition. She did an excellent job in typing and proofreading, along with my son, Charles O. Smith, and daughter, Angela Smith. It was a team and family effort. Not only did they share in the dream, but they also believed in the dream and what could be accomplished through it. And, for that, I am both grateful and give thanks to a host of friends, Bible study participants, and fellow Christians who rendered prayers, support, and encouragement. I am truly blessed by all.

But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins (2 Peter 1:9).

For a child of God not to remember what our Lord and Savior Jesus hath done on his behalf at Calvary is a truly sad condition. May it never be said that we have forgotten the price paid and the One who paid the price for the purging of the sins of our soul. Because of His sacrifice, we now enjoy peace with God through His atoning blood. Forever a sense of gratitude, indebtedness, adoration, and thankfulness should be reflected in our daily lives. Don’t forget to remember.

    Vengeance

In life, we may encounter various hurtful and painful experiences. These experiences oftentime leave their mark or perhaps a scar on us. They trouble us, vex us, and rob us of the inner peace, joy, and happiness we desire. Feelings of rage, and the urge for retaliation, revenge, and getting even now become fixations with many. All those feelings, all those thoughts, and all those compulsions are released when we turn them over to God. Because God has said, Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord (Romans 12:19).
