Episode 1 – One of the Boys

Why are you wasting time with this whore, Marky spat nastily as he gave Stefanie a look. I asked you to come alone, she spoke, ignoring the hired lackey as she looked into Addix’s face. He’s my bodyguard, you know that, he returned calmly, never changing positions as they all stood facing each other in the abandoned warehouse. You’re lucky he’s even here you cunt, Marky again spoke, no hesitation even as Stefanie held them both at gunpoint, the .9mm planted firmly in her hand. Come on boss, stop wasting your valuable time on this washed up stripper, he again sneered. Stefanie’s patience was growing thin. Why are we here, Stef, Addix calmly addressed. You know exactly why we’re here Addix, she told him irritably. Fifty thousand reasons why, she added as Marky laughed nastily. Bitch, were you really stupid enough to believe Mr. Kerringer was going to give you money, he questioned still laughing. Shit, you’re dumber than you look, he added shaking his head as he continued to laugh. Is that so, Addix, Stefanie questioned evenly. Addix remained mute simply watching her. You stupid whore, you were pussy, that’s all, damn, Marky again enlightened. Strippers and whores are a dime a fucking dozen, he spoke again, becoming angry as he glanced at his watch.

He turned his attention to Addix and spoke another time. Seriously boss, we have another meeting, he told him impatiently. You’ve wasted enough time here, he finished before the muted chirp silenced him forever. Stefanie was over the edge from his disrespect and Addix’s silence. Marky sank silently to the floor, the amazement still registered on his face as his non-seeing eyes remained wide. Are you going to kill me too, Stef, Addix questioned, far calmer than he actually felt. Why did you lie to me, she questioned instead of a response. He exhaled cavernously, before addressing her. Stef, you’re not ready yet, Addix told her sweetly. Stay with me a little longer, let me groom you more, he coaxed taking a small step toward her. Stefanie raised the gun again and he stopped moving. You’re such a liar Addix, she told him, hurt, as the tear rolled down her cheek. I’m not lying about loving you Stef, he told her seriously. Bullshit, she returned, another tear rolling down her cheek. I’ve been screwing you for a year plus, with promises of helping me get out of that damned club and off that pole, Stefanie told him. And all you’ve been doing is stringing me along, she finished, her hand trembling from the rage she carried. No more though, I’m done tonight, she angrily spoke, gun aimed firmly in his direction. Keep your fucking money liar, I’ll chalk this up to lesson learned, Stefanie told him. But trust you will never, ever, get the opportunity again, she spat firing the first shot as Addix dropped to the dirty, filth covered, concrete floor next to Marky.

Stefanie woke drenched in sweat. She hated reliving the dream. Lately it was happening almost every other night.

Dammit, she murmured, rising and heading for the shower.

Stripping, she turned on the spray and waited for it to heat as she regarded herself in the mirror. She just wanted the past to stay in the past. That was two long years ago. She struggled and scraped to pull her life out of the gutter it resided when she danced at Fantasy. Stepping under the steaming spray Stefanie tried to wash away the memories of the club and its owner Addix Kerringer. She was working at the club, weekends only, for almost three months before she met him. Stefanie of course heard rumors about him and how it was in her best interest never to cross him. Still when she met him, the rumors meant nothing once those lavender grey eyes landed on her and he smiled, greeting her. The attraction was mutual, with Addix taking a marked interest in her, arranging private dinners and dates every time she was slated to dance.

You were stupid, her mind told her as she continued to be caressed by the steaming billowy waves of water cascading down her body. Addix promised to help her start her own club and become a business owner. It was his suggestion that he finance the initial down payment, promising her the fifty thousand dollars she never saw. Stefanie hated even now, her body’s reaction to thoughts of the man. Addix was an impeccable lover and he consumed her every time they were together. The feel of his lips on her neck, her breasts, her clit, turned her on. He tricked her heart into believing in fairytales again with his smooth lines, gentle touch, and extravagant gifts.

Not so much though huh, Stefanie murmured, turning off the water and getting out of the tub.

Grabbing the towel she began to dry herself. Putting on clean night clothes, Stefanie headed back into her bedroom and picked up the phone.

    Platinum, the male voice answered.

Stefanie recognized her manager, Rob, and greeted him.

Oh hey Stef, he returned jovially. Everything is fine, we’re packed tonight, he assured as she smiled.

Thanks Rob, you guys have a great night and call me if you need anything, she told him preparing to disconnect.

Stefanie sat back and thought about her club. She almost didn’t get it. The strip club was in foreclosure and there was another interested buyer. She was almost ten thousand dollars short when Wheeler offered to be her silent investor and partner. She smiled thinking of him. Carmine Wheeler became her friend after she met him during her brief stint with the local telecommunications company. She worked customer service there for a few months, meeting him at one of the onsite training functions. They clicked instantly and remained good friends through all her life’s transitions. She wasn’t romantically attracted to him, and she never felt any romantic interest on his end, making their friendship noncomplex.  Wheeler, who hated his first name and made her swear to never use it, was a real estate investor. His portfolio was vast and he was always on the lookout for the next great purchase investment. Stefanie was well into her second year owning Platinum. The strip club was on the opposite side of the city offering no competition to Fantasy. She planned to keep it that way. Sighing deeply, Stefanie tried to dismiss the dream as she lay back down. Closing her eyes, she prayed for the past to leave her alone yet another time as she willed her body to relax and allowed sleep to transport her.

Episode 2 – One of the Boys

Addix calmly placed the cellphone back onto the massive black lacquered desk, picking up the glass and sipping the bourbon inside. He closed his eyes as the liquor rolled down his throat and his mind continued to race. Mmm, yesss Addix, Stefanie moaned as they made love. The sharp knock dissipated the pleasant memory before it could fully bloom, bringing the acrid frown as he looked up to see Luca entering his office. This was Marky’s replacement.

What is it, Addix questioned tersely.

That guy from Platinum is here, he told his boss, unruffled by his attitude.

Hmph, send him to me, and then make sure he leaves out the back way, Addix told Luca who nodded and left him alone.

Addix finished the drink, rising and going over to the small, fully stocked, bar in his office and made another. He heard the door open as he finished his task.

Would you like a drink, he questioned, back still to his visitor.

No sir, I’m fine, Mr. Kerringer, Rob spoke as Addix grunted and turned heading back to the desk that separated them and sat down.

He regarded the club manager a few moments more before opening his mouth and getting to the crux of his visit.

I called you here because I have a proposition for you, Addix told him evenly, eyes never leaving the nervous man.

Rob swallowed hard and tried to calm his nerves. Addix’s reputation definitely preceded him and Rob knew whatever the request his answer better be yes.

What can I do for you Mr. Kerringer, he spoke quietly, barely finding his voice.

    Addix smiled imperceptibly before continuing.

I want to know exactly what’s going on inside, and with, Platinum, he told him plainly. I want to know how much money comes in, what’s paid out, who comes, who goes, Addix instructed as Rob swallowed hard yet another time.

Mr. Kerringer, I know you’re a powerful businessman and all, but Stef is good people, he began before Addix interrupted him.

Rob, or perhaps you would like me to call you Harris, he threw out seeing the man physically blanch.

That is your legal name right? Harris Bonds, wanted for two counts of rape and one count of attempted rape, Addix rolled out, eyes boring into his captive audience.

Defeated and terrified, Rob found his voice all over again.

When do you want the information, he questioned as Addix gave him a genuine smile this time.

Tomorrow will be fine, he answered.

Don’t worry Rob, your secret will continue to be safe as long as you honor our agreement, Addix assured.

Rob nodded, remaining quiet.  His mind was whirling. Why was this man interested in Platinum? Did he want to buy the club? Rob was trying to figure out Addix’s angle. The man owned Fantasy, two other nightclubs, and two casino’s. As far as he could tell Platinum was small fish. Not even worthy of a look from someone like Addix Kerringer.

That’s all for tonight Rob, Addix told him, readying himself to dismiss the man from his presence.

Take the back way out, he added as Rob stood.

I’ll have Luca call you with meeting details from here on out, to exchange the information, Addix told him finally.

Yes sir, Rob spoke simply heading toward the door.

Rob, I know I don’t have to tell you this, Addix began, his tone making Rob’s stomach quiver. But our arrangement is confidential, non-negotiable, and if you try to deceive me, I’ll kill you.

Rob simply nodded, hurriedly opening the door and exiting, closing it behind him.

Addix sat back in his chair, picking up his glass again. His mind another time transporting him back to happier days. To times when he and Stefanie were blissfully unaware of the world as they lay in each other’s arms. She tried to kill you, his mind recalled. Addix dismissed the thought. Stefanie shot him in the thigh; non-life threatening. He understood her hurt, anger, the mistaken betrayal she felt. I did love her, still love her, Addix admitted. For two years she avoided him, buying the club on the other side of town and keeping an extremely low profile. He knew Stefanie was aware he survived the attack that night. Addix equally knew she was terrified of him and his plans for her now. You’re coming home Stef, back to me, back to where you belong, he plotted. She managed okay without him. He would admit that much, but Addix placed his mark on her almost four years ago. He would never willingly allow another man to have her, ever. You should have killed Wheeler a long time ago, his mind told him as he recalled the silent partner. Addix wasn’t a fool. Carmine Wheeler was in love with Stefanie.

Just as the rage began to shade his vision crimson, his cell rang again. Rolling his eyes and exhaling, he answered.

Hello Ivy, he greeted the woman.

Hi honey, are you heading home now, she questioned annoying him seriously.

Yes, in about an hour, Addix spoke to appease her and head off the argument.

All right, well don’t dawdle, I’m really ready for you, she hinted as he fought the nausea.

I won’t, see you soon, he replied and disconnected.

Fuck, he groused, ironically recalling that was what Ivy wanted to do when he arrived home.

Addix took a deep breath and calmed himself. Patience was what he needed to hold onto. The pieces were out of the box and lined up on the table. Now he simply needed to fit each one to its respective partner. Addix had no doubt he would come out on top and have everything he wanted.

Let’s go home and fantasize about Stef while you fuck this aggravating bitch, he encouraged himself, grabbing his keys and walking out of the office.

Deciding to take the front exit, Addix strolled by the bar, speaking to the bartender who returned his greeting with a smile. As he stepped out onto the front stoop, the black Rolls pulled up and Luca stepped out of the shadows behind him to open the door. Addix got into the luxury vehicle, giving the driver his destination. Luca got into the front passenger seat as they pulled away from the curb and called it a night.

Episode 3 – One of the Boys

Stefanie took a deep breath and gathered her runaway nerves. You can’t be weak in front of these men, she bolstered. Today she was meeting with the council of Casino Owners, Inc. This was the group who ultimately decided whether she would be able to purchase the Wagon Wheel Casino located at the fading end of the strip. Wheeler brought the opportunity to her almost three months ago when he first got wind of its pending demise.

Hey, sorry I was running behind, Wheeler greeted, startling her.

Hey, no, it’s okay, Stefanie returned, smiling.

Truthfully she was relieved he would be here. Not only was she going to face Marcus Boheme, president of the group; today would be the first time in two years she would see Addix face to face.

We still have about fifteen minutes actually, Stefanie informed as Wheeler grunted, searching his briefcase.

Let’s grab a seat over here for sec, let me see if I can find these papers, he told her as they walked toward the small silver metal, mesh, bench that sat against the wall.

Relax Stef, it’s going to be fine, Wheeler told her taking in the anxiety on her face.

He was aware of her past with Addix, as well as this being the first time they would meet face to face. That was another reason he made it his business to be here. Yes, he and Stefanie were business partners, he trusted her to handle dealings on her own. This one however, he wanted to make sure remained nothing but business. That bastard wants her back, he mulled growing irritated recalling rumors he heard about Addix asking questions concerning Stefanie. Finding the papers finally, Wheeler pulled them out and handed them to Stefanie.

Facts, figures, projections for the casino, he told her as she nodded.

How long does it usually take, she questioned her nerves still jilted.

The meeting should only be about an hour, Wheeler again told her.

They will ask questions, try and see if you really understand what you are trying to purchase, the gaming laws, commission laws, etc., he calmly told her as Stefanie nodded.

She was excited at the prospect of owning the casino and adding another block to her portfolio.

I promise I’m not going to desert you in there, Stef, Wheeler again assured looking into her eyes.

What a beautiful woman, he continued to muse taking her in another time as she smiled, nodded, and turned away.

Wheeler gave her another five minutes, then addressed her again. You ready, he queried, rising from the bench.

Yes, Stefanie replied, straightening her spine and walking with him down the marble hallway toward the meeting room.

As they walked, her heels clacked against the unyielding firmness of the forest green marbled tiles, echoing through the otherwise quiet hallway. Stefanie’s heart began to race as they grew closer to the door. You can do this, Wheeler is here with you, her mind yet another time encouraged. Much too soon for her liking, they were standing right in front of the double mahogany doors. The copper placard announced the name of the council and the suite number. Wheeler reached out and grasped the pewter handle, pulling the door open as they walked into the small vestibule, beautiful plants, lush and green, decorated the small enclosed space. The receptionist greeted them pleasantly as Stefanie took in the contemporary furnishings; two single chairs and one small sofa, burgundy in color.

We have a 10:15 meeting, Wheeler spoke smoothly.

Smiling, the woman directed them down another short hallway where, she assured, their party would be waiting. Stefanie swallowed hard yet another time as they found the door with ease, already open, the seven men seated at the table.

    Come in, Marcus greeted smiling.

    *****

Addix took her in slowly. Stefanie was still breathtakingly striking. Her skin positively glowed today, he mused, continuing to follow the curve of her butt down the sexy, thick thighs and legs. She was impeccably outfitted, tailored black, form fit dress with a single teardrop pearl and diamond necklace, matching earrings. He took in her face another time, the caramel melt brown eyes, pouting, succulent lips, and the lone dimple in her left cheek. Addix wanted to drink her in forever. Looking away finally, his eyes connected with Wheeler, who was giving him a baleful stare at the moment. Addix raised an eyebrow, giving the man a smirk. He saw Wheeler’s face darken in rage, confirming his earlier assumption of the man’s feelings toward Stefanie.

Let’s get started, shall we, Marcus’s voice interrupted further pondering.

Addix turned his attention to the man speaking. He was the lone reason that Ivy still remained in his house and his bed. Marcus Boheme was a powerful man and when Addix wanted to buy the two casino’s he set his eye on, he needed an in. Seeing Ivy and how close she and her brother were, he decided she would be that in.

Now you’re stuck with the bitch and you can’t stand her ninety-eight percent of the time, his mind taunted. Addix quelled the frown before it became full blown. True, Marcus could be a thorn in his flesh; Addix made allowances for that as well when he began his private plans to reclaim what was his.

Ms. Mitchell, I understand you are interested in buying the Wagon Wheel, Marcus put into the air.

Yes, I think it would be an excellent investment, Stefanie replied, looking directly at him.

Hmph, well tell me, he continued. What exactly do you know about the casino business, Marcus threw at her.

Stefanie took a quick breath, reciting all the information Wheeler supplied, and using the coaching he provided when they practiced for this meeting. Addix smiled a tad, impressed. My flower is beginning to blossom, he thought before glancing at Wheeler another time, studying him. Addix’s mind began to taunt him with thoughts of the man touching Stefanie, kissing her, holding her in his arms, making love to her. The room was turning red again.

Addix, do you have any questions for Ms. Mitchell, Marcus interrogated, watching him.

Addix knew he was being baited. Of course Ivy spoke to her brother. The woman was insanely jealous and insecure when it came to Stefanie. She never missed the opportunity to question him about his feelings, if he saw the woman, was he thinking about her?

Not really, I think you covered them all, he replied smoothly, never looking at Stefanie when he spoke.

Marcus watched him a few moments more, before nodding and returning his attention to Stefanie and Wheeler. One or two of the other members held questions and posed them as the meeting dragged on. Finally they were satisfied enough to call an end to the gathering.

We will confer and discuss your application, Marcus told her. We should have a decision for you within thirty days, he added as Wheeler frowned slightly.

True, it was within their legal scope to take that much time, he knew they were stalling. Stefanie would be the first woman they allowed to become an owner if they decided to do so. The council was still very much a gentlemen’s only club.

Thank you, that will be fine, Stefanie replied politely.

Marcus dismissed the meeting and everyone began making their way out of the room.

Episode 4 - One of the Boys

Stefanie waited until they were back in the main hall to speak. Well, I guess it went okay, what do you think, she addressed Wheeler.

Yeah, you did great Stef, don’t sweat it, he assured, smiling.

Thanks for being there and for coaching me these last couple of weeks, Stefanie again told him.

Stef, we are partners, I only want us to be successful, Wheeler told her as she smiled.

How about lunch, he questioned, checking his watch and seeing it was almost one.

Sounds good, Stefanie returned. Let me go to the ladies room first, she added.

That’s fine, I’ll wait for you outside, Wheeler spoke as she turned and headed down the hallway where the restrooms were located.

Entering Stefanie went into the stall relieving her needs, reemerging and standing at the sink readying herself to wash her hands. She thought back on the meeting and Marcus deferring to Addix. She was eternally grateful that he did not look at her, or acknowledged her presence. Of course it frightened her more, confirmation that he was furious with her.

I’m sure he is plotting, she murmured, fixing her lipstick.

Satisfied with her appearance, Stefanie stepped back into the hallway, preparing to head outside where Wheeler was waiting.

You did well today, Addix spoke evenly, scaring her as Stefanie jumped, whirling around to face him.

Their eyes locked and her throat tightened. Addix’s expression was neutral, no emotion or hint of his thought visible.

    Thank you, Stefanie finally managed.

Addix knew she was frightened, he could see her pulse racing watching the vein in her neck throb.

So Wheeler has taken my place now, Addix baited.

She frowned somewhat, his question answered before she opened her mouth.

Wheeler and I are business partners, Stefanie replied straightforwardly.

Does he know that is all you think of him as, Addix yet another time badgered.

Addix, I am not having this conversation, she told him turning to walk away.

Addix reached out grabbing her arm and pulling her back to him. He leaned down and spoke in her ear, as she looked straight ahead, never facing him.

Stef, you shot me, left me for dead, he told her, breath warm on her neck. You can at least be civil, don’t you think, he hissed and she swallowed hard.

I have eyes and ears everywhere, Stef, Addix began anew. Make sure Wheeler knows the rules and plays by them, he ended and released her.

Stefanie walked away without acknowledging his words or turning around. She didn’t stop walking, or take a breath, until she stepped outside and saw Wheeler smile and wave. Chancing a glance over her shoulder, Stefanie was relieved to see only the empty plate glass windows looking back at her. What the hell, she thought of Addix’s warning. You already know, stop pretending, her common sense dictated.

What are you in the mood for, Wheeler questioned as they got to the parking lot.

Barbeque, Stefanie suggested as he chuckled.

Sounds good, he replied before continuing. Why don’t you ride with me, I’ll drop you off to pick up the car afterward.

Addix’s warning came screaming into her conscious thought again.

Sure, sounds good, she stubbornly replied, dismissing the earlier thought.

She had not been with Addix in years. There were no ties and he was not the boss of her, Stefanie defiantly continued to muse as Wheeler started the car and they pulled out of the parking lot. She did however make note to start carrying the .9mm again. Never can be too careful, her security and self-preservation spoke up as Wheeler began to engage her in conversation and Addix became a distant memory.

    *****

Still furious when he arrived at the club, Addix gave strict orders not to be disturbed. He quickly made himself a drink, throwing it back before making another one. His mind took him back to his brief time with Stefanie in the hallway. He managed to slip away from Marcus’s eagle-eyed stare when another member engaged him in conversation and diverted his attention. It was a fortunate stroke of luck, him seeing her heading toward the restroom. She is still so damned sexy, he thought smiling, his desire beginning to grow. She smelled heavenly as he leaned close and spoke to her. It took every bit of resolve he held not to kiss her neck.

At least I know she is not with Wheeler in any way, Addix spoke aloud.

Still, two years passed. Who was Stefanie sleeping with? Who was touching her the way he wanted to touch her? The questions, imagery, were making him crazy.

    Slow down, he chastised himself.

Rob was in place feeding him information for the last month. He would simply press the man for more information on Stefanie’s personal life.

Addix needed to deal with Ivy too. She was on a new tangent. She wanted to get married, with an immediate announcement of their engagement. That shit is not happening, he resolved. Addix made another mental note to be careful when having sex with her. He did not put it past her to try and conceive. Can’t have the vasectomy just yet, he again pondered. He planned to have that done after he and Stefanie were married with a couple of children, but things went horribly wrong between them and he hooked up with Ivy. Time; that is all he concentrated on now. Thirty days to be exact. Addix planned to have Marcus disposed of, Ivy out of his life, Wheeler removed, and Stefanie back in his bed when the time came to give her a decision on her casino ownership application. Picking up his cell, he texted Rob. He gave him detailed instructions on what information he wanted on Stefanie and how quickly he wanted it. The response came moments later, assuring him that his instructions were received and he would have what he requested.

Episode 5 - One of the Boys

Marcus greeted his sister as she slid into the booth across from him, dramatically exhaling as she dropped her silver clutch evening bag onto the seat. He sipped his drink, allowing her to finish the performance as she waved the server over and instantly requested a double vodka martini. Checking her cellphone and laying it on the table, Ivy finally acknowledged her brother.

How are you Marcus, she greeted sounding harried.

I’m fine Ivy, he returned. The better question would be, how are you, he returned just as the server brought her martini and placed the glass on the table in front of her.

They were meeting at the Casbah, one of the upscale casinos on the strip that Marcus owned with his conglomerate. She picked up the glass, taking a large gulp as his eyes scanned the casino dining area another time. He was thinking of doing a makeover on the décor. It was all very bland in his opinion, varying shades of browns and gold’s. He thought a touch of color would add some pizazz to the place, and maybe make patrons more hospitable in parting with their money.

He turned his attention once more to his sister taking in the small worry lines beginning to crease her brow and eyes. He sighed silently knowing her relationship with Addix was the source for most of her angst. She was impeccably dressed this evening, as always, in garnet with burnt orange accents, the jewelry sparkling and complimentary.

I would be better if you told me that tramp would not be getting a casino license, Ivy threw back and Marcus shook his head.

Ivy, really, you’re putting too much stock into one woman, he tried to reason as she scoffed.

You don’t understand Marcus, she began to lament.

I know Addix still loves her, and if you let her get that casino, I have lost him, she told her brother, the crocodile tears on deck.

Marcus took another deep breath. He knew his sister was prone to exaggeration, but she was still his baby sister. He spoiled her all her life, and now was not the time to try and break her.

Honestly Ivy, the man did not even glance at her today, Marcus tried yet another time.

Ivy grunted, picking up the martini and draining the glass, motioning to the server to bring her another.

Of course he wouldn’t with you there Marcus, she told him, dabbing at her eyes. Please, Marcus, just make sure she does not get the license, Ivy begged another time.

Ivy, I only have one vote, he began, the server interrupting as they placed another martini on the table, sliding the gin and tonic over to Marcus and leaving them alone once again.

I could probably garner another two, but that would still put us in the minority in the vote, he tried to explain.

Can’t you persuade them, she whined as he sipped his drink, her voice grating his nerves.

Ivy, honestly we are getting a lot of pressure to let her in, Marcus told her, gaining a deep, severe, frown from Ivy.

Wheeler has taken the fight public, so of course, we have feminist groups coming down on us about being anti-female, he told her as she sighed deeply.

Well, can’t you just make her disappear, Ivy threw out. Make her leave town, something, she grasped at straws.

Have you made any progress in getting him to marry you, Marcus questioned, deflecting her for the moment.

No, none at all, she miserably whined another time.

As he opened his mouth to speak, Marcus’s cell went off and he excused himself having to take the call. Sitting alone at the table, Ivy let her mind wander. She thought of Addix and how in love with him she was. She equally pondered how in love with Stefanie he still was. He thinks I’m a fool, I can tell he still loves her, Ivy thought, real tears stinging her eyes this time. Adding insult, Addix’s newest fetish was condoms. He came home with two boxes of various kinds, saying he wanted to try out all of them. Ivy could not come right out and accuse him of having an affair. Addix enjoyed unique sexual fetishes and demands, so this was not out of the ordinary enough to raise a fuss over. She endured, hating every moment of the time they made love and he used the prophylactics with her. How the hell am I supposed to have his child using those, she again pondered. Ivy was desperate. If Marcus would not help her, well then she would take care of Stefanie on her own. She had contacts of her own. She did not spend all these years with Marcus, helping him in the business, not to know how to take care of a problem. The more Ivy thought about it, the more she liked the idea. Deciding she would make some calls after her dinner with Marcus, she allowed him to change the subject upon his return to their table, the two finally ordering dinner.

    *****

Marcus was walking Ivy to her car. I am glad you are feeling better, thinking clearer, he told her, kissing her cheek as he opened and held her car door.

Yes, I am going to do what you said and relax, she told him, getting inside and letting down the window.

Good, Marcus replied. I promise everything will be fine, he told her.

Have I ever let you down, he questioned now.

No, Marcus, I know you will handle it, she told him as he smiled and she started the car.

Waving one last time as she drove away, Ivy waited until she turned the corner before pulling out her cell and scrolling through her contacts. Finding what she needed, she made the call and waited on it to connect.

Yeah, the gruff response came in her ear.

    Dickie, it’s me, Ivy spoke.

Yeah, so what do you want, he returned, disposition unchanged.

First of all, you need to recall who you are talking too, Ivy haughtily informed.

    He burst into laughter.

I know who I’m talking too, he told her.

Marcus’s bratty little sister, Dickie spoke without hint of fear.

Ivy frowned, pissed that he did not respect her the way she wanted, but powerless to do anything about it. She needed him.

Taking a deep breath and removing anger and attitude from her voice she spoke again.

I need someone taken care of, she told him calmly.

    So, Dickie threw back.

Why don’t you get big brother to handle it for you, he queried, pushing her buttons.

She hated his flippant attitude, but Dickie was the best at what he did. That was what she needed for this job, the very best.

Listen Dickie, can you cut the shit for five minutes and listen to me, Ivy threw back, growing angry again.

She heard him laugh yet another time before speaking.

OK, you got three minutes, so make it count, he told her seriously.

Ivy quickly explained what she wanted and how speedily she needed it handled.

Twenty grand, he said simply and her mouth dropped.

Seriously Dickie, this is me, she tried.

Yeah so what, he told her.

What you want is dangerous, and that shit carries twenty to life if you get caught, Dickie spoke not budging.

How soon can you do it, Ivy questioned stalling while she thought of where she would get the twenty thousand dollars he was asking for.

You get me my money, I’ll have this taken care of in six days, he assured as Ivy began biting her cuticles.

She was clueless where she would get the money. True, Addix bought her nice things and gave her money here and there. It was nowhere near the kind of money Dickie wanted. She could not go to Marcus. He already told her to leave it alone.

You still there, Dickie questioned after the marked silence.

Yes, she told him as he grunted. Can I give you half now and the other half after, Ivy tried.

She actually did think she would be able to raise ten thousand easy enough.

No, I am no amateur Ivy, Dickie told her. When you got all the money you call me back, he ended and hung up in her ear.

    She was furious.

Bastard, she groused, her mind still racing.

He is not the only professional in town, her mind told her. Ivy thought long and hard about that. Maybe she could find someone cheaper; someone who was just as good as Dickie. Do it anonymously, her mind told her as she grunted. If she dealt with a stranger she could give them a fake name and they would never know the difference. No ties or connections back to her. The idea was germinating in her mind. Now it was a matter of figuring out where to find what she needed. The wharf, her mind told her of the rough biker bar. Nodding at the thought, Ivy decided to do a little fishing this weekend. She would go to the bar and see if she could find what she was looking for.

One way or the other, that pole swinging slut is out of our lives, she angrily murmured arriving at the condo she shared with Addix and adjusting her attitude. Soon enough everything would once again be right with their world, and they would live the happily ever after they deserved.

Episode 6 - One of the Boys

Stefanie was toying with her cell, her mind on Maximus. Their communication was sparse over the last few weeks and tonight she was exceptionally horny. Wonder why, her mind began as she shut it down and continued to contemplate calling the man. Maximus, his stage name, was Nicholas Tyler to the rest of the world. He was an exotic male dancer with Ladies Choice. They did exclusive private parties in the city one to three times a month. Stefanie met him during one of his performances and they clicked. They were good friends now, sharing deep conversation and of course knowledge of the adult entertainment industry. They also both were laden under their share of personal baggage, which made their arrangement perfect. Neither wanted a relationship or commitment at this point. They wanted, hot, passionate, lust filled, sex. They were friends with benefits, but no strings. Whenever he was going to be in town, he texted and asked if she wanted to get together. Tonight he texted saying they were doing two shows. One tonight and one tomorrow, asking if she wanted to connect.

Stefanie enjoyed her time with Maximus. He never crossed the line and neither did she. The fact that he lived some two hundred miles away definitely kept them honest. Normally Stefanie used her toys to satisfy her needs, but sometimes she needed that real, warm, throbbing flesh to satisfy her. Maximus lived up to his name and he brought the scorch every time they were together. Just as she made up her mind to call him, the instrument rang in her hand.

Damn, she murmured seeing Wheeler’s name on the I.D.

Stefanie contemplated not answering, her needs urging her to do just that. In the end, she pushed accept and greeted her business partner.

Hey Stef, Wheeler pleasantly returned. I was hoping you were not busy, he threw out as she remained quiet.

I thought we could go over to Wagon Wheel and check it out again, see the crowd on a weekend night, how things are run, stuff like that, he told her as Stefanie sighed quietly.

She knew he was right but that did not mean she had to like it.

Yeah, sure, sounds like a plan, she returned with enthusiasm she did not feel.

Great, I will swing by and pick you up in, say, forty minutes, Wheeler again spoke. Yes, that’s fine, I will be ready, Stefanie returned as they disconnected.

Taking another deep breath she texted Maximus and told him tomorrow was better for her. His reply came moments later assuring her it was fine. ‘I’ll text you a location tomorrow,’ his message read. Stefanie sent a reply of her own before heading into her bedroom to change clothes. Glancing through her closet she chose a cute peasant top, crème colored, and a teal and grey patterned skirt. She added crème, teal, and gray accessories, with crème heels and checked her reflection. Brushing a couple of errant strands of hair back into place, she spritzed herself with perfume and grabbed her purse walking toward the living room, hearing the knock on her front door.

Wow, you look great, Wheeler told her appreciatively looking her over.

Thanks, Stefanie laughed, heading out with him and getting into his car.

What made you want to take this field trip, Stefanie queried as they rode.

Just figured tonight was as good as any, considering the meeting earlier, Wheeler replied shrugging.

Truthfully, he wanted an opportunity to spend time with Stefanie in a social setting. Alone and away from Platinum, where they could relax and hopefully he could find a way to broach his feelings for her.

The drive was pleasant and short, as they found themselves arriving at the casino and pulling into the parking lot. Not feeling the hassle of looking for a parking space, Wheeler opted for valet.

Well that much at least is good, he murmured to Stefanie who nodded and followed him inside.

They were not impressed with the décor, even with the understanding of the western motif; everything was outdated, or worn and broken.

Sheesh, she spoke whispering as Wheeler agreed.

That is going to be a big budget item, he told her as they found a table in the dining area and sat down.

Let’s have a drink, observe a bit, have some dinner, Wheeler told her as Stefanie sat across from him.

He patted himself on the back for the idea of them coming. There was no reason for her to suspect anything he suggested. It was all truthfully portions of knowledge they needed to make this crumbling venture profitable.

I would like a glass of red wine please, Stefanie requested from the server poised to take their order.

I would like a beer, Wheeler replied as she gave him the brands on tap.

Stefanie continued to take in the establishment as Wheeler continued to take her in. Such a beautiful woman, his eyes told his mind as she turned unexpectedly and found him watching her intently.

    Something wrong, Stefanie questioned.

No, sorry, mind was wandering, Wheeler quickly covered.

He was not ready just yet. He needed her a bit more relaxed. Stefanie chuckled.

Yes, this place definitely makes you have thoughts, she told him as he smiled and graciously accepted the out she offered.

The server brought their drinks and requested their dinner selections.

Um, let’s try the steak, baked potato, house salad, Stefanie requested.

How would you like the steak, the server asked rather impatiently.

Medium rare, Stefanie returned, taking mental notes and glancing the woman’s attitude.

You won’t have a job when we buy this place, she thought but did not voice.

I think I will have the ribs, Wheeler requested.

French fries, and slaw, he added as she nodded and sighed loudly before walking away.

    Did you get her name?

Oh yes, most definitely, Stefanie laughed.

    *****

Maximus smiled putting the cell down and continuing to head to the shower. His performance was in another hour. He loved spending time with Stefanie. They always enjoyed great sex true enough, but it was her captivating conversation that kept him enraptured. You are getting in too deep, his mind warned as Maximus sighed heavily. He chastised himself internally forcing his emotions off. Stefanie made it perfectly clear when they connected what she wanted. He would not risk losing his time with her pursuing an avenue she already made clear was closed. What guy hurt her like that, Maximus wondered packing the bag he was taking to the posh country club where the performance was slated to take place. Neither he nor Stefanie discussed their past personal relationships, but Maximus knew whoever the guy or guys were they did a serious number on her trusting men in general. She is too damned beautiful to put herself on ice like that, he again mused. You mean to put herself on ice from you, don’t you, his mind instantly accused.

Maximus loosed yet another breath framed in frustration and picked up his cell and duffle bag, walking out of the hotel room door. He made a mental note to pick up another box of condoms and a bottle of wine for tomorrow night. Starting his car his mind continued to recall his beautiful sex partner, the attraction deepening with each breath he took. How the hell did I get myself into this, he questioned and shook his head. This was not his first time having a friendly bounce relationship. What made this one so very different? What kept him so drawn to this woman he did not even sleep with anyone else in between their trysts? Mercifully his cell rang and he answered.

Yeah man, I’m heading that way now, he answered his friends query.

Yeah, I will stop and grab it on my way, he added, alluding to the man’s request for baby oil.

Disconnecting Maximus intentionally turned his thoughts away from Stefanie and back toward the job he was in the running for. He interviewed last week with the recruiter assuring him they would contact him within the next fourteen days and let him know what their decision was. Come on, please let me get this job, Maximus another time mused. It would give him the release he needed from dancing and being terrified on a daily basis that his secret would be discovered by his colleagues and potential employers. Seeing the small convenience store, Maximus pulled into the parking lot and got out heading inside, mind fully at ease and his problems for the moment, forgotten.

Episode 7 – One of the Boys

Throwing his keys on the desk, Wheeler headed immediately for his office bar. He sighed deeply pouring the liquor. He would have preferred to be at home with Stefanie in his bed, but as was the usual, he was here at Platinum trying to calm the raging desire he carried for the woman. Last Friday night was perfect. They spent the entire evening at the casino, checking it out, making plans once her permit was approved. Wheeler did not see any real issue. Even if Marcus managed to talk a few of his cronies into voting against it, they would still have the majority vote. You already know Addix is going to vote yes, his mind spoke, angering him. Wheeler knew the man was still interested in Stefanie and her continued aloofness when it came to dating, made him wonder if she still carried feelings for Addix as well.

Dammit Stef, he is no good, Wheeler murmured aloud.

He took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. He was going to push a little harder. So far he let them drift along as friends never making any romantic overtures toward the woman.

Hell, she probably thinks you don’t even see her that way, his mind scolded as Wheeler grunted and nodded in agreement. That was going to change though, starting tonight. He was expecting Stefanie in the few minutes. Tonight he was going to begin to not so subtly let her know he was attracted to her. Now let’s just hope she is receptive, the slight hint of fear nudged. What if he messed up their friendship and made things awkward? Wheeler sighed again. He had to do something, waiting around and loving her from afar was not cutting it. His cell rang and he frowned seeing the unknown number. Letting it ring twice more, Wheeler answered grudgingly.

Hello, he spoke into the instrument.

    Hello Wheeler, Addix addressed coolly.

The frown was sharp; the hatred he felt instantly aroused hearing the man’s voice.

What do you want, Addix, Wheeler threw back with malice.

He heard the small chuckle before the man spoke again.

I want you to give up your idiotic notions of any future you may think you can have with Stefanie, Addix again spoke, further infuriating Wheeler.

You sound worried, he tossed back, grabbing a cigarette and lighting it.

    Again, he heard the chuckle.

No Wheeler, not at all, Addix returned, never raising his voice.

I get the attraction, I mean Stef is a beautiful woman, but—, he paused and Wheeler heard him sipping what he assumed was a drink. She is way out of your league, and she is mine, he finished evenly.

Wheeler was ten shades past pissed right now. He took another deep breath not wanting Addix to get the rise he was obviously fishing for.

Stef is a big girl Addix, he returned. Maybe you should realize that and stop thinking you can control her, Wheeler went on.

Didn’t work out too well last time, did it, he fired, referring to the woman breaking up with the man.

Wheeler, I have warned you, Addix replied. That is the best I can do, he ended and disconnected before Wheeler could reply.

Furious he hurled the glass in his hand against the wall.

Asshole, he groused aloud just as Stefanie walked into the office.

Damn, is it that bad already, she teased, smiling slightly.

Wheeler’s mood instantly brightened and he smiled back at her.

Sorry, temper moment, he replied and she laughed aloud.

Are you done, she questioned, eyebrow raised.

Yeah, I am good now, Wheeler replied, eyes locked on hers.

    *****

Addix finished the bourbon and set the glass down. He did his part. Whatever happened to Wheeler going forward was his own fault. Addix turned his attention to his visitor as the soft knock came and the door slowly opened moments later.

Come in and have a seat, he told Rob calmly, rising and refilling his drink.

Normally he would have Marky retrieve the information the man was supplying them concerning the club, but this was personal and he only wanted the information given to him.

What have you found out, Addix questioned wasting no time.

Rob swallowed hard, clearing his throat a few times before speaking; his discomfort evident.

She meets this guy named Maximus, maybe twice a month, he told Addix whose face remained neutral, despite the jealous fury brewing in his mind.

Are they dating, he fired and Rob instantly sensed the danger.

No, they just—, well, you know, he enlightened as Addix grunted.

Who is he, this Maximus, he questioned needing to get more information.

He is an exotic dancer with this exclusive troop, Ladies Choice, Rob told him.

Addix nodded and motioned him to continue.

They do high end exclusive private parties in the city two or three times a month, Rob told him.

So he calls her when he is in town, Addix now posed.

Rob nodded that from his understanding that was how the arrangement worked. How long have they been seeing each other, Addix again inquired.

    His mind was still racing.

Little over a year from the gossip I picked up, Rob answered honestly.

I need his number, Addix told him, giving Rob a new look.

Mr. Kerringer, I do not know how I would get that, he pleaded, feeling trapped and haunted.

Find a way, Addix returned not giving an inch.

I will try, Rob replied awkwardly.

Succeed, Addix again spoke, alerting him he was done with him for now.

Rising Rob made a hasty retreat from the office. Addix let go the breath he held after the man left. He was still trying to blink away the murderous images he saw in his mind knowing the man was touching Stefanie; had been inside her.

Stef, Stef, Stef, Addix murmured yet another time.

He was plotting but he needed the information he charged Rob with securing. On the one hand he was pleased she was not in a relationship or that she was sleeping with Wheeler. On the other hand, Maximus basically signed his death warrant if he did not agree to the offer Addix was going to make once he got the contact information.

His phone rang, halting the thoughts temporarily. Glancing at the I.D., he answered greeting the party on the other end.

Marcus is on a campaign to sink the girl and the permit, the man spoke.

Addix was not surprised. He knew Ivy was behind the drama.

Will he get enough votes to block it, he questioned, not wanting that to happen.

Depends, the man told him. So far he only has his usual two in his pocket, but you know he would only need one more to take the majority vote.

    Addix did indeed know.

That cannot happen, he replied coldly.

Your call Addix, you know that, the man again replied.

You tell me what is going to happen and I ensure that it does, he finished as Addix grunted his understanding.

For now just keep your eyes and ears open, we will make a move soon enough, Addix replied as they disconnected.

Taking another breath and slowly releasing it, he pulled out a pad and made some notes. Addix compiled a detailed agenda and he planned on leaving nothing to chance. Getting caught up in his thoughts and musings, he lost track of time. Almost two hours after he started on the notes, Addix finished. His mind once again solidly fixated on the woman his heart yearned for, he dialed Stefanie’s cell.

Hello, her voice melodically entered his ear canal.

    Hello Stef, Addix greeted sweetly.

The silence was culpable and he smiled imagining the look on her face.

How did you get my number, Stefanie returned her voice slightly shaky.

From your application, Addix told her truthfully.

The fact that he secured it months ago did not need to be disclosed.

Episode 8 – One of the Boys

Stefanie was still fully outdone that Addix was on her phone. She only arrived home some thirty minutes ago after leaving the club for the evening. She was pissed that her clit was thumping furiously listening to his silken sexy voice. Damn, why can’t I stop loving this man, she angrily chastised.

What can I do for you, Addix, she spoke another time, trying to take back control of the conversation and her raging libido.

She enjoyed another mind-blowing session with Maximus last weekend when he came in town, so why was she dripping wet and biting her lip not to scream at him to come and fuck her silly.

Stef, why so formal, hmm, Addix taunted. We are still friends aren’t we, he went on as she endured.

I mean, it is the least you could do after trying to kill me, he finished and she sighed gently.

Addix, what is it you want from me, exactly, Stefanie put in the air.

She was way over the cat and mouse game at this point.

Tell me why you didn’t trust me, Stef, Addix threw at her, his tone soft and soothing.

Stefanie swallowed hard. She did not want to get into the past. It was done for her. Liar, her mind instantly condemned.

Because you kept lying to me Addix, she finally answered, hearing him exhale deeply.

I wonder what he’s doing right now, is he undressed, Stefanie’s libido took over. Jeeze, she mumbled.

What did you say, Addix questioned, half hearing the comment.

    Nothing, Stefanie quickly covered.

Stef, I never lied to you and you know it, Addix began anew.

You let the gossip and the pettiness get to you, he went on as she remained quiet. I only wanted, and still want, the best for you, Addix told her.

Stefanie took another breath, pushed her wanton desire aside yet another time and addressed him.

Addix, it is the past, can’t we move on, she tried.

Do you still love me Stef, he fired, taking her totally by surprise.

Why are we rehashing all of this now, Addix, Stefanie replied instead of answering his question.

Wheeler is in love with you, did you know that, he queried, leaving his earlier question hanging mid-air.

Stefanie sighed again. She recalled having to deal with that. Wheeler made his feelings for her very plain earlier this evening at the club.

Again, Addix, why are we even talking about this, Stefanie hedged.

Can we have lunch tomorrow, he posed calmly.

Addix, I don’t—, she began, before thinking better of it.

Where did you have in mind, she asked quietly.

Bonaventure, Addix responded, naming their favorite place when they were together.

Fine, what time, Stefanie again spoke.

Noon, Addix answered. Have a great night Stef, I will see you tomorrow, he added and disconnected.

What the hell have I gotten myself into, Stefanie bellyached heading for the bathroom, finding her sleep aid.

Popping two and swallowing she looked at her reflection. She needed to sleep and figure out the storm that was brewing or she
