Ricardo stood on his front porch and smelled the sweet aroma of honeysuckle on a summer afternoon. The sky was a bright blue, and Ricardo loved being outdoors.

This is a perfect afternoon to hop on my skateboard, he thought to himself.

Ten-year-old Ricardo, who was always cheerful, also liked to ride his bike.

Ricardo placed his skateboard on the ground and started skating in his Park Heights neighborhood. His friend, Jose, rode up on his bike. Both boys lived on the same block of Garrison Avenue. It was a quiet area of row houses with evergreen trees and small front lawns.

Hey, Ricardo, what are you doing? asked Jose.

Hi, Jose, answered Ricardo. I’m just having fun riding my skateboard.

Ricardo rode on on his skateboard while trying to jump up and down at the same time.

How about doing something different for a change? suggested Jose.

Like what? smile Ricardo.
