BIBLICAL HERBS & SPICES - Prophetess Lily-Rose
CHAPTER ONE
NATURE
nature.jpgLandscape photo
Nature in the broadest sense is the natural, physical, or material world or universe. Nature
can refer to the phenomena of the physical world, and also to life in general. The study of nature is a large (if not the only) part of science. Although humans are part of nature, human activity is often understood as a separate category from other natural phenomena.
The word nature is derived from the Latin word natura, or essential qualities, innate disposition
, and in ancient times, literally meant birth
. In ancient philosophy, Natura is mostly used as the Latin translation of the Greek word physis (φύσις), which originally related to the intrinsic characteristics that plants, animals, and other features of the world develop of their own accord. (Wikipedia)
The book of Genesis is the story of the creation of nature which had to be formed first before man was created. There are over fifty verses in the bible where plants are mentioned most times used as figure of speech which reveals their usefulness in spiritual expressions.
Nature is a physical expression of God’s power; the elements of nature Fire, Air, Water & Earth unite at the command of the Spirit of God to generate everything that we see around us without the influence of man, giving the earth its predominate hues: Blue from her waters and Green from her plants. We can only take from nature to remodel but cannot generate anything new outside it.
The earth is referred to as Mother Nature by some cultures due to the manifestation of her nurturing energy.
The power of God expressed through nature generated thousands of species of plants on earth which can be found on lands, in the sea, on the mountains, under the soil and caves; man only knows the uses of few of these plants.
There are toxic and non-toxic plants but bear in mind that no plant is useless; every plant carries properties that it contributes to the ecosystem. God created everything for a divine purpose and until that purpose is known to man nature will remain a mystery. If nature that we can see with our physical eyes but still remains a mystery to us then how can we experience God?
It is also important to note that most of the potent medicinal plants grow like weeds on the road sides or wild in the bush tended by the elements of nature. Every edible plant is medicine to man; many are used as food, some are used as spices to bring out the flavor of other foods, few are solely for medicinal purposes. For instance Rice is food, Thyme is a spice but Licorice is solely an herb. All the nutrients (Carbohydrates, Proteins, Fats, Vitamins, Minerals, Dietary fiber and Water) needed to nourish and heal the body can be found in plants.
Plants play other vital roles like recycle the air we breathe by producing oxygen, produce raw materials for construction and ornamentation. Plants protect the environment by preventing global warming and erosions. Plants do not only feed man it also produces food for all life forms on earth.
Biblical Herbs and Spices reveals the blessings that the herbs and spices listed in the Bible possess for Christians to live a healthier physical and spiritual life when consumed; just as my book Biblical Crystals reveals the divine healing energy in the gemstones on the breastplate of Aaron in the book of Exodus.
GARDENING
raised bed garden.jpegA raised bed garden
There were a lot of gardeners mentioned in the bible the first being Adam who tilled the soil for food followed by his son Cain (Genesis 2). Gardening exposes man to the miracles in nature; to put a seed in the soil, watch it grow and produce a lot more testifies to the omnipresent power of God in everything he has graciously created.
To own a garden in ancient times was a symbol of wealth. There are different types of gardening techniques that can be adopted from the bible to produce your favorite foods. The herb gardens referred to in Deuteronomy chapter 11, are believed to be square shape pattern where many different kinds of vegetables were grown together but spaced with foot paths for watering.
There were gardens in the palace in the book of Esther. There were hanging gardens in Babylon invented by Queen Semiramis who ruled Babylon in the 9th centuries. There were also terraced roof gardens which awed the ancient people who were used to seeing plants only on the ground.
King Solomon loved plants as well, as one who was blessed with wisdom he probably knows all the benefits of the plants he mentioned in the Bible. He had an exotic collection of plants, his gardens were vast, containing Aloes, Cinnamon, Frankincense, Myrrh, Saffron with red and white Valerian of today.
Arbors were made and covered with grape vines, to give shade so people could sit and eat meals under them.
The garden of Gathsemane is one popular garden in the bible where Jesus spent some time to rest and had meetings with his disciples there (John 18:2).
The ability to grow your own food is a blessing! Although not all plants can grow in pots but quite a number of them do well with good soil, sunlight, water and prayers. Yes, plants respond to thoughts and prayers because they are living things too.
Having a garden draws you closer to nature encourages you to pay more attention to what you put into your stomach. Gardening is a very good antidepressant activity. The Joy from harvest cannot be compared with anything.
A few pots of vegetables such as Mint, Basil, Aloe Vera and Oregano will not only beautify your home it will also generate positive energy.
HERBS

An herb is any plant that is used and valued above others for its medicinal qualities, scent and flavor that it may possess other than its inherent value as a food. Herbs are used in various forms and aspects such as cooking, spiritual rituals and customs, making of certain traditional as well as modern medicines as well as things like pest control.
The leaves of medicinal plants are the herbs while the seeds, stem, roots and flowers are spices.
The history of man using herbs is very old and seeps into very early ages back when man relied on nature alone to provide answers and means to his sustenance and as an aid to cure his ailments. Most of these practices and cures have survived initially by way of word of mouth and then by being embedded in local folklore and becoming customs.
There are several types of herbs; most herb plants are classified into two main categories according to their usage - culinary herbs or cooking herbs and medicinal herbs or healing herbs. Certain herbs can come under both categories as they have many herbal uses and so growing herbs for culinary and herbal remedies purposes is not uncommon.
The medicinal properties of herbs have been used for centuries to cure and prevent diseases. Nurturing the body, herbs add to the nutritional requirement and regulate as well as balance the functions of the organs in the body.
DIGGING DEEPER
Herbs and spices possess more than what the eyes can see, every herb possess healing properties that benefits the body, mind and soul.
Everything the Spirit of God created is the manifestation of energy; the very energy plants possess is what makes them also beneficial to the mind and soul.
Certain herbs possess psychoactive chemicals so they can act on the mind in a favorable way when used with caution. There are plants whose energy repels people and souls with negative energy, there are also plants that generate positive vibes in an environment. Some plants repel certain types of animals, for instance the tobacco plant is said to repel certain species of snakes. The energy frequency makes this possible. Plants like Sage are spiritual purifiers, Rose is said to symbolize Love and Oregano radiates a joyful energy that can be felt when the aroma hits the nostrils or when consumed.
THE DOSAGE OF HERBS
The argument of some modern doctors against herbal medicine is that herbs do not have dosage with scientific backing but that is not totally true. Herbs have provided healing long before science found a way to extract their main components for the manufacturing of drugs.
The dosage of herbs differs just as orthodox medicine. Dry herbs are measured with spoon or weighed, while herbal extracts are measured in milliliters. The kind of ailments, its intensity and the existing health condition of the patient is considered before the administering herbal preparations because a holistic approach is required for the treatment of ailments with
