Arising from her extraordinary journey with God, Frannie Rose inspires students across the world to live in conversation and in union with God. His voice is what she heard as she emerged, miraculously, from seventeen years bedridden with illness and as she embarked on a new, awe-inspiring journey with Him.
In “Teach Them to Hear Me,” A Guide to Conversing with God, Frannie Rose guides readers, step by step, through a contemplative journaling technique God shared with her for engaging in daily and increasingly deeper conversations with Him.
When readers say “yes” to this beautiful journey, they will experience what Frannie’s many students have discovered: how to find inner peace with God; how to uncover meaning, purpose, and fulfillment through His answers; and how to gift the world with their newfound peace.

SILENT MEDITATION
If you could ask God any question, what would you ask Him?
Would you ask Him about yourself?
Your journey?
Your life?
What might you ask God about Himself?
PART I
Preparing for the Journey Inward
background.jpgCHAPTER 1
Why Turn My Face to God?
I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
(Matthew 17:20)
IMAGINE THIS: WITHIN A MASSIVE and incredible universe you were a simple seed planted inside the womb of a woman. You were fertilized and nurtured, growing without awareness of the world outside her body. You thought her body was your universe—your home. You were content to live there forever; that is, until each part of your body began to grow so big that it soon became difficult to move around. You found yourself stuck, imprisoned by the walls of a womb. Eventually, as many of us find when we realize we are bound, you knew instinctively that you had to move toward freedom; you had to get out. So you began a quest in that direction, looking for the path out of this confined space.
However long it took, you sensed the way to the small opening that would lead you to a narrow canal. Somehow, you found and entered the passage, knowing through its spasms that you were being carried forward to another place. The power in these contractions was greater than anything you had felt before while lying luxuriously within the womb. You feared their power and yet desperately longed for space to stretch and grow. With each movement forward the spasms grew stronger, constricting and irritating your body. An incredible force was pulling you forth. Sensing light ahead, you persevered with increased vigor and innate determination. Then you were thrust headfirst into a new world—a world of sensation and color. With one final push you were caught by determined hands, cradled in softness, and greeted with voices.
Your nine-month journey in the womb finally came to fruition as your being found freedom from physical pressure and discomfort. You were able to move your tiny limbs freely. The air you breathed felt lighter than water. On this momentous day, you opened your eyes and took in the world.
This wondrous moment lives on in the memory of each joyful human who witnessed your arrival. It may have been a moment when their thirst for meaning and purpose was quenched with fulfillment. You turned your face quickly toward the faces of humans, perhaps the face of a mother or nurse, who held you carefully in her arms and rocked you back and forth. The voice was pleasant, possibly one you recognized from within the womb, only now it was communicating with facial expressions too. Although you did not yet understand the words being spoken to you, you somehow grasped their intent. You learned something of love then; its nurturing gentleness gave you the same feelings you experienced within the soft and luxurious womb. Your heart felt soothed by the sounds and feelings of total peace.
Birth and awakening within a new world are incredible metaphors for the spiritual journey. Life in the confinement of the womb, as an infant’s body grows too large for it, is like our life in humanity’s world. This, too, is a confined existence, where inner space is filled and our hearts are covered over by stuff that thwarts our freedom. This stuff
is the product of living as if our minds know what’s best for us. Sooner or later, living in our minds becomes so limiting and uncomfortable that we wish to move toward the opening—the light. If we stay with that light, it will lead us to freedom. And then it will begin to speak to us. The voice of that light shares a love that nurtures us and provides us with profound peace and fulfillment. We are cradled and held by this incredible presence, our Creator. In essence, this becomes our spiritual rebirth into His world.
Just as turning your face toward your mother or guardian when you were born was turning toward humanity, when you turn your heart toward the one simple voice inside, you are encountering your Creator. Every spiritual being eventually longs for freedom from thought and for true meaning and purpose. Sometimes this longing manifests as despair. Other times, it presents as hurt, pain, or depression. It grows within each of us uniquely, for longing is God’s call from within us to seek the light.
You feel the need to move toward the light. You hear Him, but you do not know who is whispering so gently and lovingly. So, while it is God whom you hear, still you struggle and resist His voice. It is muffled by the mind’s louder voice, and if you follow that voice you are led into deeper confinement. The journey into and out from confinement feels like birthing contractions, spasms of constriction and irritation that push you to emerge but feel so uncomfortable you can resist and become stuck. Finally, the longing for freedom becomes so strong that instinctively and without reservation you follow His voice and locate the light. Then He sets you free: emerging into a bright world of color, you rest in His nurturing hands and hear His loving voice.
The voice is so familiar to you—you’ve always been hearing it—but now it is clearer and speaking directly to you. You may understand God’s words and understand His intent. Through this, you may learn to experience a deeper love than you have ever felt before—a gentler, kinder, more peaceful love. And you may feel your faith in Him expand upon hearing His voice. Your heart can be bathed in total peace. You always were, and were always meant to be, a soul awakened to union with the
