About this ebook
"Show me a strong woman and I'll show you the blackened scrawl: survivor. sturdy. Edged."
Are you struggling to figure out who you are?
Do you feel trapped in your career, relationship, or life?
Are you trying to find passion again?
Soft Edges is a poetry collection for women about the conflict between who we are and who society thinks we should be. It explores the deep, raw emotion of becoming your true self while battling very real, modern problems--in relationships, careers, and society. These poems are a genuine look at the deep struggle of finding the courage to be who you really want to be. The first half of the poems, "The Dark," focus on the complex emotions we face in modern society, especially as women, to wear a mask for the world. These words illuminate the struggle we face in stale relationships, the burden of responsibility, and the struggle of expectations. The second half of the poems, "The Fire," seeks to inspire you to find the courage to rise up above expectations and find your own fulfillment.
Being a soft edge isn't easy, but walking through the fire to uncover your deepest self leads to an inner peace we all seek. These poems will remind you of the very important truth: We see you.

The Darkness
1.
––––––––
There will come a day when he
no longer sees the flowers in your hair
or the adversity in your eyes.
––––––––
You, Dear One, will feel small,
Invisible,
a shredded carcass of the butterfly
you once could have been.
––––––––
You will become nothing more than
neutral, than a sweatpants
suit in shades of gray.
––––––––
You will no longer be the light
he hangs his hat on, but the
hook he hangs his trumped up
reputation on.
––––––––
You will be a means to an
end and nothing more.
––––––––
You will chase after those
wings you once had
in hair dye
in quote pillows
in classes that don’t mean shit.
––––––––
You will lose yourself more in trying
to find yourself—the
self he once thought
Glimmered.
––––––––
You will stoop over the dishes
with cracked hands
wondering
how and when you
lost your chance to
fly.

Be a soft place to land, they
say, but all she wanted was
to let her sharp edges
puncture those who tread
on her.

She craves to be seen
yet also unseen
––––––––
To be masked but naked
in the shimmering dawn
of his once lauded
presence.
––––––––
She is both not the same
and too much the same.
––––––––
It does not matter.

For even in the caress of
a blue silk and lace night,
his head turns left.
––––––––
Her skin is translucent,
but her veins are unnoticed.
