About this ebook

In their first published poetry collection, Storm Lover and Hannah Bevis explore the complicated nature of being two queer women finding their way in an unforgiving world. These poems will take you on a journey through all kinds of love, heartbreaks, feelings of loneliness, mental roadblocks, and non-traditional sexualities. As we unravel the stitching of our own lives and put ourselves on display, we hope that other folks like us will feel just a little less alone while reading this book.

    Just Be - Hannah Bevis

    Just Be

    A Collection of Poetry

    In her beginning,

there were princess dresses and toy cars,

    stuffed animals and scraped knees,

    a sand table out back

    and a sister to cradle.

There was time, and there was love,

    and there she was,

    living in it.

    In my beginning,

there were Barbies in the wastebasket,

    backyard adventures and LEGO pieces,

    a baby blanket named Cassie

    and insects in both hands.

There was time, and there was love,

    and there I was,

    living in it.

    In our beginning,

there were thrift store clothes and first cars,

    bonfires and yearbook pages,

    homework that didn’t matter

    and races to be run.

Time was ticking, and life was scary,

    and she met me,

    surviving in it.

    Somewhere in the middle

of the open and the close,

    stands the two of us,

    tethered together.

Though we do not know the way,

    we do know this -

in the beginning, there was you, and there was me,

    and in the now,

    there is us.
