Ch. 1
Why is that creep still chasing me?
Isabelle Knight tumbled through another patch of snow, feet swishing through the thick clumps of white. It clung to her skin, as did the cold whistling around her, creeping into the gap in her shirt and freezing her already pale skin.
What did I ever do to him?
The footfalls behind alerted her to his presence. He was her ex-husband. That crazy man. She’d loved him, or maybe love never flowed between them at all. She couldn’t be too sure of the facts. One thing she did know, however, was that he wanted her dead.
The Killer stepped on a fallen branch, and the snap caused Isa to flinch.
I have to escape, she thought, stepping over another loose branch. She skirted around a bush, which grazed her thigh, ripping a hole into her jeans. Hallowed Forest spanned twenty miles, and kept everything hidden behind thick foliage. It should’ve been the perfect place for Isa to escape the Killer, after dumping her car on the roadside and rushing into the thickets.
But she was wrong.
More footsteps crunched behind her.
Come here,
the shout sounded, snaking through the trees to attack Isa.
Isa flinched again and tightened her coat around her torso. The snow fell around her in a tornado of white. It blinded her temporarily, until she swiped a hand over her eyes and spotted another tree ahead of her. It led into a winding, straight path, with bushes all around.
