About this ebook

YOUR VOICE MATTERS
There will be a day, childrens expect to appreciate their
parent's persistence that they study their parents chosen
career choice. Children's
may constantly wish that they had
gone into the career of their choice rather than the field
their parents desired them to do. But the real question is
whether the children will one day appreciate their parents'
pressure to go into a selected career or whether they
will resent them, the real question is whether or not the
parents were right or wrong to pressure them into it
in the first place.

    PREFACE

Times were really tough back (1969) when my mother single-handedly brought me up alongside my five other siblings. My father had passed away at the tender age of forty years because of an ailment when I was six years old. We lived on a relatively small island called Langkawi in Malaysia, tapping rubber for a living. I was enrolled in a vernacular Tamil school, considering the short distance from our modest residence in a rubber estate. Back then, those who have completed primary studies will have to move to Mainland Butterworth to pursue secondary studies as there wasn’t a secondary school on the island, which is now a world-renowned tourist destination.

Circumstances made me leave home for Mainland Butterworth to pursue my secondary studies, which were entirely in English. Completing my primary studies in a vernacular Tamil school did not help in excelling in secondary studies. The language barrier was a challenge, yet I swam through the rough times and completed my secondary education. Post that, I was clueless about my career pathway as I was not under a responsible-adult supervision to guide me through the journey of identifying my passion and making a wise career choice.

As young as seventeen, I had to work several jobs a day to make ends meet. Some of it was as a janitor, trainee carpenter, an assistant to an electrician, general worker in a scrap metal factory, and other odd jobs. As I was looking for opportunities to advance in a potential field, an advice from my uncle came at the right time. After much discussion, I agreed to pursue a part-time course in welding at a technical school. Having passed in flying colors, I proceeded to apply for an internship and completed my internship role as a toolmaker. I was quite determined to be a machinist and rejected various offers from organizations that offered me a role other than a machinist. In no time, I landed a job in a multinational company, and that very company is the organization
