    Origami Safari - Joe Fullman

    Elephant

Follow these instructions to make a mini version of the world’s largest land animal.

Place the paper white side up with a corner facing you. Valley fold it in half from right to left, then unfold.

Make a diagonal valley fold about a quarter of the way along the bottom left edge.

Do the same on the right side.

Valley fold the paper in half from right to left.

Rotate the paper 45° to the left so that the short edge is at the bottom.

Valley fold the top left point over to the right.

Open out the top pocket you created in step 6.

As you open out the pocket, push the top point down and flatten the paper.

The paper should look like this. On the top piece only, make two small cuts along the solid lines shown. Mountain fold the paper behind on either side.

Make two step folds to create the elephant’s trunk.

The paper should look like this. Flatten the folds.

Make a step fold on the left side to make one of the elephant’s ears.

Repeat step 12 on the right side to create the other ear.

To make the elephant’s tail, valley fold the right point.

Create another valley fold on the tail so that the point is facing right again.

Now turn the folds you made in steps 14 and 15 into two inside reverse folds, one inside the other, to finish the tail.

To create the elephant’s legs, use scissors to carefully cut out a small rectangle.
